my
wife and i just moved to coarsegold and were checking out the food. one night we
went to alphonso's. it wasn't crowded, but there were people there. i loved the food i got. the best chile relleno i ever had. the first to melt in my mouth. my wife loved her's, too. i think she had tacos. the salsa was also delicious. i don't know if we were just there on a good night or what, but the other reviews were nothing like the terrific food we had. and i know my mexican food! my late best friend taught at cordon bleu. we will be going back.
This place is just ok. The service is not that great and the food is not anything to rave about. I have gone about three times and I keep trying to find a reason to like it but I can't, other than the location. I have had a few good margaritas, but like another person said earlier the beans are definitely out of a can!. And the service is really hit and miss There is a big sign on the front of the door that says four dollar margaritas. When I asked my server about it she acted  like she didn't even know the sign was there! The last time I was there I wasn't even acknowledged when I walked in the door, had to ask twice if I could just sit anywhere. The employees were too engrossed in their own conversation to bother I guess. Chances are I will go back though since it does have a cheap margarita!
Review Source:We had lunch there. Â It's not fancy but is pleasant, with views of the hills across the road. Â Service was fine. Â I liked the salsa; good chunks of veggies. Â And the chips were fine.
My wife had a ham and cheese, which she enjoyed. Â I had a wet enchilada, which turned out to be a large tortilla wrapped around a mixture of (in my case) shredded beef, rice, etc. and covered with (in my case) green chile and cheese. Â I really liked it.
For where it is, I found the price to be reasonable.
I will go back.
Went here a few years ago with my family. I just began Yelping again so decided to write a review on this place, as much as I can remember. What I can remember is, it was bad.
I got a chicken taco, or something like that, which came out absolutely mediocre. It was one or two chicken strips, lettuce, and ranch. Tortilla was not cooked. No seasonings or anything to add flavor. Â It was edible, but it was just... Meh.
The salsa was bland.
The service took forever.
I haven't been back since. My dad and his girlfriend went recently and claimed it is just the same. Why is this place in business...? There is some good mexican food around the Oakhurst/Coarsegold area but it's not this place. El Cid's is a little better, but still pretty mediocre. Â It's all better down south.
I lived in Oakhurst for a few years and loved the Mexican food they had in town. Â We decided to venture down into Coarsegold and try this place. Â It was horrible. Â We were late to be seated and then they forgot our order. Â We ended up waiting close to an hour for our food. Â There were children playing behind the bar. Â When our food came, it was cold and the order was wrong but by then we were so hungry we ate it anyway. Â The chips are help yourself so we had to keep getting up to get our chips and salsa. Â The chips were stale from sitting out all day. Â Then our refried beans were straight out of the can. Â The food was awful. Â For two dinners, it cost us over $30. Â I would expect to pay that for good food today, but this was for terrible food five years ago. Â I would never go back again.
