Anchor bar is cozy and has great martinis. The list is so long, I do not think it would be possible to try everyone. The bartenders can usually give you a good recommendation if you are not sure.
Ten dollars a pop for a drink is expensive but usual for a martini.
Also, they are VERY strong so be careful how many you have. Ask for a card that they punch out every time you buy a drink. Your 10th is free!
Not sure what the deal is here. Â Used to be the Elbow Room - your standard dive-y dive bar. Â Then it got bought (by the owners of Gillarys I believe) and turned into the Anchor Tavern. Â
When it started - it interested me. Â Nice enough make over. Â Talk of appetizers and specialty drinks (someone used the term "martini bar.") Â But what we have now is decidedly average. Â The martinis are ok. Â The beer selection is by the numbers. Â And I'm not sure if they even serve food anymore (last time it looked like your standard frozen fried appetizers.)
Someone gossiped to me that the owner bought the location more for the liquor license than anything else - and had plans for moving it down the line. Â But that's just hearsay. Â They could have been making it up. Â So why do I mention it? Â In hopes that it DOES happen and when it does that the owners show more imagination than is on display here.
