The restaurant is in the middle of nowhere. We pulled up and the parking lot was completely full, a good sign. When we opened the door of what appeared to be dark and shabby on the outside, we were pleasantly surprised by the decor and brightness inside. It is a simple yet cheery decor of red tables and Mexican art everywhere. We were seated immediately and given chips and salsa and waters. I sort of felt like a child drinking out of the very small plastic water glass I was given. My husband was also given a plastic water glass but his was of a different style and slightly larger. We were pleased with the menu and the price were what you would expect in a typical Mexican restaurant. After downing two bowls of chips and salsa our food arrived. The food was very good but I was a bit puzzles by the rice, it was just plain old white rice rather then Spanish rice, really rather unappealing. Â The one problem I ha was that I was freezing in the restaurant the entire time. We were seated fairly close to the door and all I could think about was hurrying up with my meal so I could get back into my warm truck and defrost. On a positive note, the restroom was very clean. However, I believe a restaurant that has "fine dining" in it's name should have tablecloths and be warm. The server was pleasant enough. Â I would eat there again but probably would get my food to go so I wouldn't freeze.
Review Source:I used to live in Lake County for years, and when I visited this place today, it was the first time I'd ever been. I've been to TNT's, Havy's, La Parilla, Corona, Cabo's, and Cactus Grill, and this place ties with La Parilla with me (though I like them for different reasons.)
The service was great, the food was delicious and cheesy (the way I like it), and the prices were good.
The only negative is its location what with it being so far away from everything else.
I am from CO and when my wife and I moved from there to Cali we were worried about not being able to get good Mexican food. So we asked around and around to many many people to see what the best place was in Lake County. Everyone said to try this place out. So I did. And sadly it was just not great. I mean it was good if you haven't had real authentic mexican food, but honestly I felt like I could have done better. The service is the only reason I am giving them 2 stars because it was really good. I just think that I have been spoiled with world class Mexican food in the past and sadly they just aren't as good. On the bright side they are the best in Lake County.
Review Source:Angel's Rock House is absolutely delicious! Â I have frequented the restaurant since it opened, and have always had delicious food! Â I enjoy it very much and always look forward to dining there. Â They are well loved, so they do get busy, and sometimes there is a wait to be seated, but the food never disappoints. Â Absolutely delicious!
Review Source:I have been away from Lake County for the past five years. Â This was the first restaurant I returned to, hoping it would be as good as I remembered. Â Suffice it to say, it was. Â I have not had great Mexican food for the past several years and this place was a slice of heaven. Â Staff was very friendly, margaritas excellent, and the food, well, loved it. Â My favorite Mexican food in the county.
Review Source:Angel's Rock House is hard to find in the tiny town of Finley near Kelseyville. Â That being said, it is one of the few finds for really good food in Lake County. Â
Family owned and operated for over 20 years, this is exactly the type of old school Mexican cuisine you would expect with few frills. Â Solid food, large portions, good prices, and friendly service. Â For the people I work with, it is our "go to" place for meals under $10. Â
Burritos are huge and tasty.  For me, they are usually a second meal if take half as a leftover to go.  I like their shrimp cocktail although they error a little on the gringo side of not being very spicy.  Nothing a little hot sauce isn't able to correct.  Even though it is out of the way, the locals jam into this place.  In my opinion it is one of the more successful restaurants in a tiny county with a small population.  Having lived in quite a few cities with large Mexican populations, I'm  not able to give it five stars, yet this family owned place would hold it's own even in San Jose or San Antonio.
Like another reviewer wrote, this place is extremely rural (at least to my limited cosmopolitan nature). Not really in Lakeside, but the hoppin' town of Finley, this is a great find off the gravel Big Valley Road (otherwise known as County Road 541).
I don't have any other local places to compare it to - but our group of 3 at lunch found very good authentic Mexican food, reasonable prices, good service, and family owned and operated. We arrived shortly before noon and the place had a few other tables, by the time we left the whole place was full (locals and vacationers alike). If you are on vacation (like me) then this is a great place to get a good meal and support the local business.
They do now take credit cards (no Amex though).
Closed Mondays, Open Tuesday-Sunday 11a-9p.
My family has been going here for years and since I have moved to the area, I have joined them several times to eat at Angel's. The last time we ate there we were in the back and it was a pretty slow night (only a few tables) , but our table was right across from this NOISY food station where this lady was grinding food and smashing things. It looked like she wore ear plugs and I sure wish I had some! I didn't ask to move because my brother-in-law and Angel like to joke around, but I found the noise profoundly annoying and unnecessary so close to diners.
The last two times getting food from Angel's we ordered food to go, but even though Angel has only met me a few times he always remembers me and he greets me very nice.
My sister and brother-in-law always get the chicken fajitas and my mom and I opt for enchiladas, overall it is good, quality food. I'm getting hungry just typing this...I think I see some enchiladas in my future! Yum!!!
Angel's is hard to find, but I suppose if you live in the area, your choices are limited. Â A local recommended the place, and I was hungry, so I was excited about it. Â There was a friendly cat outside, but apparently, he was not officially connected to the restaurant. Â There is a friendly neighborhood vibe here, and I loved that. Â I didn't love the cold, stale chips that tasted like they came out of a bag, nor the salsa that tasted like it came from a can. Â I thought the service was pretty good: quick, attentive, and stayed out of the way. Â The dining room has no separation between tables, so it's best if you're not too shy. Â My camarones a la plancha were tasty, but I was disappointed by the bland white rice. Â I suppose I shouldn't expect "mexican rice" at every Mexican restaurant, but I thought they could have done better. Â Not the best, but not the worst either.
Review Source:This place is a diamond in the rough, and though I've heard it's not the easiest to find, it's totally worth it! Â Just got to Steele winery for a tasting and ask them to direct you here. Â It is right around the corner from them! Â The food is absolutely amazing. Â I haven't had this good of a chile rellano since who knows when. Â I am always going to compare other mexican restaurants to this place. Â DO IT!
Review Source:Great authentic Mexican food! I love the people there! Nice place for a big group and margarita's by the pitcher. Very hot plates! (I burned myself when I was a little kid, but don't worry they warned me first!). I have been going there since I was young and the food has not changed that much. If you have something that works well, stick with it, and they did. And Sixto, you are amazing. You make the business such a better place to come too, you make up for the distance that people travel just to see your smiling face :) Thanks Angels.
Review Source:For honest home cooked Mexican dishes this is the place. Â Nothing fancy, just tasty food resonably priced. Â It is family owned and run. Â The handsome man serving you most likely is "Sixto" [an owner] and his brother is the chef. Â NOTE: they do not have a full bar. Â The mixed drinks, like the margarita's are made with a low proof alcohol [no more than what is in wine]. Â That is how they can do it without a full liquor license. Â If you try it you will become a fan!!!
Review Source:We eat here often and really enjoy our food everytime. This is our go-to place for a mexican meal. Now if we are talking just a quick burrito, that's a whole differant review!
We've had a party of two, four and a couple times a party of eight to ten. The service is always really good, no matter what size the group. They don't take credit cards which is a bit of a pain but with a quick trip to the ATM before heading out to Finley is always part of the evening out.
It is family  and operated. As a rule, we try to support the locally owned and operated over a chain any day of the week.
Angels is our favorite Mexican Restaurant in California. We live 8 hours south of Lake County so we day dream about their Salsa and Margaritas. We've yet to find a Mexican restaurant that has a perfect balance of Friendly/experienced waiter/owner-Sexton, great but simple food, Salsa and a perfect Margarita. That's what Angel's has and we wish we could get up there more often!
Review Source:After experiences at Cabos (mediocre) and TNT on the Lake (blow the damned place up), my wife and I were looking for a good Mexican restaurant in Lake County. Â After reading the reviews on Yelp, we decided to give this joint a try.
Pretty good. Â I enjoyed a beef enchilada plate. Â My wife had a chile relleno with a taco. Â The whole meal was tasty and flavorful from the chips and salsa to the last sip of Diet Coke.
I didn't know what to make of the place's outside appearance. Â It appears out of nowhere in the middle of a country road and is pretty rough-looking. Â Inside, it is more attractive. Â Service was good but a bit flippant and times. Â I almost think the waiter gave me more preference in service than my wife, but whatever. . .
At last, we found a good Mexican restaurant in Lake County. Â It's not the best Mexifood we've had in our day, and I'm not connecting with the raving 5-star reviews I'm seeing here on Yelp, but it's a good restaurant that deserves repeat visits.
If you want classic Mexican food, and a classic Mexican restaurant, this is pretty much it.
Great food, great prices, good service, and proper atmosphere. Â The meals are pretty standard for what you'd expect at a Mexican restaurant, but the quality is just so skillfully done that it'll keep you coming back.
Service is always well done, and I've rarely been forced to wait too long for seating even on busy nights (despite the small size of the place).
Reason enough for me to go visit the folks and get some good food.
I love Mexican food - this place rocks some of the best in San Francisco. Â When I visit the Lakeport area - Angel's is a must stop!!
Angel's Rock House - what once was a rough local bar in the old days was turned into a great family owned Mexican restaurant. Â Had another wonderful meal there just the other day. Â The restaurant has been recently painted inside, please remember the name "Rock House" the exterior is made of huge rocks.
The food always comes extremely hot - your cheese on your meal is always melted and your food stays hot through out the entire meal - so take your time and enjoy every bit. Â Carnitas is favorful, beans and rice have great flavor. Â And yes, the chip are salsa are good - but your meal will be even better.
Service is always friendly, attentive and prompt. Â Just the right amount of service without being pesky. Â In my eyes, without good service it does matter how good the meal is - it could ruin the meal.
Angel's is busy just about everyday of the week lunch and dinner - Friday evenings it is rocking with people out the door - but the food comes out of the kitchen quick so you should not have to wait to long - and it is worth it.
Angel's is closed on Mondays and usually around the Christmas holiday they close for 3 weeks. Â The family deserves the rest!!!!
Hope you enjoy!
Tired, lifeless Mexican at its best. When I read other reviews, we went out of our way to go. Â And if you have been to this part of Lake County, you know the roads are so confusing, it is not a small deal. When we drove up we thought, cool roadhouse. Â Then with the cheap interior, we still were thinking, the food must be amazing!
Oops. The Rock House part of the name I think refers to the rock I felt in my stomach the rest of the day. Â Really sad that I later found some interesting looking places in Kelseyville.
Ok, now if you want some real good Mexican food this is the place! Â It's hard to find, but once you do you will not be sorry. Â My family and I have been going to Angel's for years. Â The plates are so hot that I have been burned a few times- not a bad thing. Â Totally worth the pain and suffering for the massive chicken burrito. Â This is one reason why I visit my parents! Â Good thing for Angel's!
