We had the catfish sandwich and the Reuben. Â Both were very very good. Â The handcrafted onion rings are world class. Â Mysti, our wonderful and efficient waitress, brought us hushpuppies to try while we waited. Â Awesome! Â We stop at Annie's every time we drive to or from Florida. We have never been disappointed.
Review Source:I have eaten in a lot of places and I have almost NEVER left a whole plate of food. Â We stopped at Annie's on our way to the beach and we are pretty sorry we did. Â The parking lot was packed so we thought, oh boy, this will be good. Â Oh boy was right but it was far from good... Â My BBQ pork tasted like it had been soaking in water to keep it luke warm until serving. Â The giveaway besides the taste could have been that puddle of water on my plate, yuck. Â The sauce was tasty though. Â Our french fries were ice cold and the French Dip looked, and tasted, like rehydrated meat passed through a broiler. Â The baked beans tasted like Campbell's Pork and Beans with pepper sauce and mustard added. Â Do yourself a favor and stop BEFORE or AFTER Luverne if you're hungry on the way to the beach.
On the plus side, the staff was attentive and very friendly.
It's difficult to evaluate whether something is the best because "best" is subjective. The fried chicken here, however, was very good and since I haven't eaten a lot of it in Alabama I suppose it is the best I've had here. The BBQ was also good, though a little dry. I could have solved that with some BBQ sauce but there were no bottles on the table. But the peach cobbler I can say really was the best I have ever had anywhere and for that reason alone I would return here again. Service was friendly but slow, probably owing to the large group that came in just before us so I'm not taking off points for that. Annie's is a cute little stop on the way home from FL.
Review Source:We were torn about going here...one 5- star review and one 1-star review. With only two, completely contradictory reviews, the only thing to do is try. And since the dispute was over their fried chicken, the only thing to do was try that. Boy, am I glad I did. It really was some of the best I've ever had. I had mac & cheese and sweet potato casserole too - also excellent. Liked the hush puppies too. Â And the peach cobbler is DIVINE.
Review Source:The absolute worst fried chicken this southern woman has tasted!!! They advertise on their menu Southern Living rated their fried chicken as one of the best. If this was ever true it sure isn't true today. The collard greens were from a can and the peas weren't fresh. Southern Living needs to go to The Cool Cafe in Frankin Tn for the very best of southern cooking. They are the real deal for skillet southern fried chicken. Â
Bottom line? In the immortal words of Lewis Grizzard, Annies is a hoAX!!!
If you don't know Lewis then you probably think Annies is great. Â Nuf said.
