Came for dinner about an hour before close on a Monday night. I ordered the combo plate with a chicken enchilada, a chile relleno and a carne asada taco. Well, you can't really go wrong with a fried taco, and this one was delicious. Crunchy and savory with just the right amount of meat, cheese and lettuce.
The chile relleno was soft and bland, and a bit soupy. I always compare every chile relleno I order to the one I had in Taos about 6 years ago. It was made to order, the chile was practically whole with a nice amount of cheese inside, but the best part was it was fried perfectly. It maintained its shape, was very lightly breaded, crispy when cut through and the pepper itself tasted perfectly roasted, not overcooked mush. Needless to say this creates a great pinnacle to which not many rellenos have reached (as of yet!) This was no exception.
The chicken enchilada was average as well. Chips and salsa served before the meal were spicy because we asked for their habanero salsa. I ended up dumping this salsa on the rest of the bland food, and it did make it nicer.
Oh, and my husband refused to let me use the restroom after he saw it. This guy is no shrinking violet either; I mean he's seen some rough stuff in his time owning and running a pub in Old Town Pasadena. He would NOT let me go in there - it was that bad. So luckily the other side of the restaurant had another unisex restroom that was fine. Perhaps they just didn't catch it in time? He said it looked like a bunch of hobos did their business in there, then left without a second thought. Sorry for the imagery.
