We went twice while on vacation. Great breakfast. Good selections & homemade jam. Dinner was comforting. I had the onion soup...not too salty & loved the cheese. The grilled cheese is good too. My husband enjoyed the spaghetti. Perfect dirty martini made by our excellent server, Jordan. See you next year!!!
Review Source:August 2012. Â Recommended by hotel so I took family of 7 to eat. Â Pricey and nothing stood out as wow! except tea and lemonade for $2.50 and pay for refills?! Â Mac and cheese from kraft box. Spaghetti meat sauce weak. $16 and up Fish dinners very expensive. Â $10 Perch sandwich portions (3 tiny filets) small. Â I would say Audie's food is average at best and pricey... Bad combination.
Review Source:This place came as a recommendation from a trusted friend. Â He didn't let down. Â There are a ton of stuffed animals all over the restaurant. Â The decor is very 80's, but it works for the place. Â The food was great. Â I had the Walleye. Â Cooked perfectly. Â Asparagus was perfect. Â Definitely a spot to hit while in Mackinaw City.
Review Source:I wasn't that crazy about Audie's when I had to eat here in 2007 because it was the only place I could find open late and I didn't like it any better this trip. Â It's almost twice as much as I pay many places yet the food is only half as good.
I try to keep my meals reasonable so I'm not gonna buy one of their $15-20 meals, yet ended up out $12 total for a bowl of bean soup, a grilled cheese sandwich that consisted of three slices of bread and a meager amount of cheese, and some fries, plus tax and tip. Â And it wasn't that great. Â This town needs a place besides a bar where we folks who arrive in town past 8 can get a decent meal for a decent price.
This place was right next to our hotel and we were hungry so we stopped in. Â First of all, if you're looking for something healthy and filling, this is NOT the place. Â I ordered a cup of home-made chili and the salad bar. Â ALL of the plates at the salad bar were dirty so the waitress took it upon herself to bring me a "clean" plate. Â It was even worse than the others! Â It was scratched up and you could feel the scum on it. Â (And I'm not a prima donna, trust me.) Â The salad bar was a joke. Â The chili was just ok. Â The price for both? Â $9.00!!! Â Definitely not worth more than $6.00. Â My husband ordered The Peninsula (open faced roast beef sandwich with cheese). Â The wedge fries were good and he says his sandwich was "ok". Â The only reason I gave this place 3 stars is because the waitress was helpful and nice and the service was super fast. Â Other than that, the place dirty and just...gross. Â Level of dank comparable to Denny's in a college town.
Review Source:A Pleasant Surprise.
The reviews here were mixed, so I didn't expect much. Â But when we drove by on a Saturday night, and there was not a parking spot to be found, we knew we had to give it a try. Â The service was attentive, the food was solid, and the prices were OK. Â
The food was nothing amazing, but it was good, it was hot, and it was quick. Â The bread was homemade, as were the desserts. Â Prices were a bit high, but hey, it's a tourist town, and it was to be expected. Â I would definitely come back & would recommend it to anyone passing through.
I have eaten at Audie's Chippewa Room several times, and have always found it to be excellent. Â I usually have the stuffed whitefish (yum), and the salads are very tasty. Â The bananas foster dessert is always entertaining and delicious as well. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat. Â I can't vouch for the family restaurant in the other part of the building as I have never eaten there. Â We usually go to the Chippewa room for special occasions, and the service is always attentive to that, and very friendly.
Review Source:I am not a fan of national chains but I would rather eat at an IHOP or Big Boy than here, ever again. The place is just dumpy - not charmingly retro or throwback cool, just dumpy/dirty/stinky/what the hell are we doing here and why the hell would we eat here scary. Well, we ate here because the entire town was shut down and I knew everything on the other side of the bridge would be shut down, too. It would be one thing if the food was amazing, like a Triple D find, but it's not. The salad bar - eek! The whitefish sandwich was way too over-fried. Even the fries weren't good.
Blech.
This place was our best find during our time in Mackinaw City. We went on a Saturday night where they had a buffet of entrees and salad for around $10. We weren't expecting much, but everything was wonderful! And as another reviewer said, when you see locals eating there, it's always a good sign.
We also got a grasshopper for dessert which was better than some I've ordered at higher end restaurants. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for affordable and tasty food while visiting the area.
Took my wife & daughters here for dinner. Wife & I had whitefish - very good. Plentiful portions that exceeded our appetites!
It was a little confusing when we first arrived as the woman at the front was being overwhelmed by a takeout order, 2 people paying their tabs, & 3 groups wanting to be seated. I asked to be added to the wait list and she just seemed confused by that. Another woman arrived and took over seating and the process improved from there.
The wait staff was prompt, friendly, helpful, & attentive throughout our meal. She handled our "to go" dessert request handily - strawberry shortcake, hold the ice cream & whipped cream (we are staying in a hotel). Our bill was brought promptly, but only after ensuring we had all we needed.
Well, it's Sunday morning on Mackinac Island and I was just not finding anything on Yelp worthy of good breakfast. Â After some searching I came across Audie's in the City. Â
It was a tremendous choice. Â I'm not sure what meal Ed M. Â had but ours were extremely reasonably priced. I had the whitefish and eggs. It was supposed to come with two eggs, but I ordered them poached and they surprised me with a third. Â Their Wheat and White bread is homemade as well as their jam as everyone else noted.
My companions had French Toast, Pancakes, and a mexican omelet. All great choices. The pancakes were extremely impressive.
After a few days over on the overpriced Island, I was very excited to find such a great place for a last meal. Â Tons of locals inside, and fantastic service. It's always a good sign.
Way to go Audie's! I know where I'm eating next time I'm near the bridge!
The service was tremendous.
Leaving Ann Arbor at 4am, we thought we would drive the coast, find a small Mom and Pop place for breakfast then continue our trip to Mackinaw City.
That this was a Sunday Morning never crossed our minds.
We found no one open. No one. That is of the small family type places we enjoy to eat at.
We decided to just have breakfast in Mackinaw City.
Also for awhile we found nothing open, as it was late fall.
Finally we found Audies Chippewa Room open.
When we got in we found there were locals! Always a good sign!
We got our menus and were a little shocked at the prices.
So we gave our order to a very pleasant older lady who served us.
We waited a not too unusual length of time when our food came out.
While far from being dreadful, I was never the less not too impressed.
Although the home made jam was outta this world!
Had the price been half what we paid, the meal would have been just right.
But for what we paid in Mackinaw City in the off season, would have gotten a breakfast 3 times the size in Ypsilanti.
