beer and wine was good, the store is an odd mix of home decor and a lounge/bar area. Â Its got a schizophrenic feel to it. Â That being said, I'm sure this could be a real cool place to hang out in, if you lived around the corner and wanted that neighborhood feel where you know the owner (he was really nice) and you can bring your dog. Â Kinda wish it would just commit to being a bar though.
Review Source:This place is awesome and unique. We stumbled upon it doing a search for places in south Austin to kill a little time. All the wonderful things said about Marco are true. He has an amazing memory. The second time we went, with about two weeks in between visits, he remembered what wine we drank and which cheeses we had tried. In general he is very knowledgeable about the wines they serve and finding the one for you.
Wednesday nights they have two wonderful musicians as well. I wish I could remember their names as they really add to the ambiance as well.
I went to Aviary for the first time this weekend and was surprised! My bf and I met friends here, and I didn't have time to check the reviews. I actually thought it was just a home decor store so I was really confused as to why we were meeting them here. We walked in and it was this cute space with a high ceiling, fun furniture, and a wine bar! We ordered drinks and a charcuterie plate. They have amazing pates (we had the bison and duck) and also a selection of cheeses (ordered the gruyere to paire with the pate). The ambiance was nice, it felt like we were hanging out at someone's home. Very relaxing and comfortable. I'd come back!
