I think Charles I. said it best: I'd ski Whitetail any day as an excuse to drive 2 hours and hang out at this bar. It's definitely a dive bar, but it gave me the small town experience that I often forget about living in the city. There is something magical and charming about this place... can't put my finger on it. The owners and locals are equally friendly. In fact, one 'regular' (who was donning a cowboy hat and playing country music on the juke box), took so much pride in B&G's fries that he sent an order our way. Yeee hawww!
The food execution is kind of  "interesting," as the bartender takes your order and makes the food right in front of you. I do appreciate the transparency! The food passes muster and the prices are cheap. I'd recommend this place for dinner and drinks after skiing. I know this is a Yelp faux pas, but the place I'd recommend for lunch is the "Clear Spring Creamery". It's down the road. Get a cheesesteak sandwich. The owner is a farmer who raises the meat, it's better than Philly!
I wouldn't say it's amazing, but it's an experience. We went skiing at Whitetail and discovered, to our dismay, that it's a dry ski resort -- i.e. no lodge with booze to enjoy after being extreme on the slopes. So once our skiing was done, we went to B & G, apparently the nearest bar on the way back to DC.
The town is pretty funny, there's one main street lined with nice, circa-1800s brick buildings, but the only businesses in town seem to be 2 liquor stores, B & G Pub, and some kind of curio store. And the liquor stores are plastered with ads for weird beers like Extra Gold.
So as for the bar, it's definitely a local dive. The place had a good crowd on Monday evening (President's Day) with lots of blue collar locals. They were showing The Road Warrior on TV, which was a good sign. We got a pitcher of Yuengling and they didn't ask us to start a tab -- they probably figured we were the only folks there who weren't familiar. We also got the boneless chicken wings, which come with a choice of sauces -- bbq, ranch, the usual, plus testudo. Testudo is the University of Maryland mascot. I asked what that was, and the lady behind the bar said "I don't know... kind of spicy." Ok, done. I think it was honey mustard with hot sauce, but the wings weren't bad so we got another order, and another pitcher.
Some drunkish dudes were playing keno on one end of the bar and the rest were talking to each other, how you doing buddy, etc, and a lady walked in wearing pajamas.
Eventually we finished our second pitcher and asked for the check. We tried to guess how much our 2 pitchers and 2 orders of wings would be. The wings were $6 each, so that gave us some idea, but otherwise we didn't know. I thought $32, one buddy $35, the other buddy $27. The total: $22, meaning the Yuengling pitchers were $5 each, or less if tax was included. Pretty awesome.
Then after that we went to the liquor stores and bought Extra Gold beer and some whiskey that was much cheaper than in DC.
