A self-proclaimed dive bar (which is actually pretty nice) right on the marina featuring a decent selection of beers, but they're all in bottles. Long on ambience, but short on service. Plates of fried seafood going by looked good, but we didn't order any. I'd be inclined to stop in again for a beer, but I don't see this becoming my hangout next time I get to town. Your mileage may vary.
Review Source:First things first, this place does not have draft beer. Â I know, it sucks. Â However, looking past that, it's a really cool hangout spot in Port A. Â Being forced to choose between bottled beer (I'm slightly biased..) and liquor, I went with Bay Breezes all night. Â After explaining to the sweet bar-runner what it was, she had them perfected by the second round. Â
The Back Porch (if you didn't infer from the name) is outdoors with a big bar in the middle. Â On one side is a stage for bands and on the other is a more chill area next to the harbor. Â It can get very crowded but the bar is on top of their game and gets drinks out fast. Â Next door is Woodys and they serve seafood out of their window until 10pm if you find yourself needing some food.
Forget salty bar nuts and snack mix. Â The Back Porch brought in 2 gorgeous platters of fruit consisting of watermelon, grapes and bananas and offered it to their patrons.
Live music was playing early in the day at no cover charge to entertain the day drinking beach goers and fishermen alike. Â The bartender iced down my wine glass which I thought was nice in the blazing Texas summer. Â This is an outdoor bar, so be prepared to embrace the heat. Â They have a large tiki bar to grab a little shade.
This is a dog friendly place but they do insist that dogs remain on leashes.
Live music, cold drinks, fresh fruit what's not to like?
This is a great spot to kick back in Port A. Outside down by the marina. Very loose and laid back. Â The crowd was dancing and having a great time. The night we went The Morales Sisters were kicking ass and taking names. A great rockin band with songs in english and spanish. If you need a label try a female Los Lobos.
The music was great. Â The service and the drinks were good. Â I love being near the water as you catch the Gulf breeze. Â I have no idea if they book acts of this quality on a regular basis. Â We were tipped to this place by some locals. If you are looking for live music this is a joint worth checking out.
I've been here a couple of times and always enjoyed myself. We had a group of five and came in around 5:00pm. Gorgeous day, great view of the marina, and cold beers. Life can't get much better. My sister tried the house drink, Porch Punch. It was alright if you like fruity drinks, but I stuck with beer. I will agree with the other reviewer about the price of Lone Star... $3.50 is outrageous. As the sun faded the place got packed. Looked like a mix of locals and vacationers. Live music started up around dusk. The service suffered when the place got packed, but lucky for us we were ready to move on. I'd recommend this bar if you want a nice shady place to sit and enjoy a beer in the afternoon. Once the sun sets move on to Shorty's.
Review Source:The Back Porch just feels like vacation. A completely outdoor patio bar with live music right on the water. A great way to kick back with friends after a day at the beach. Nightly live music. When we wandered in, there was a New Orleans style band, you know, the kind with more people in the band than in the audience? And I think they were handing out instruments to anyone who walked up and asked for one. Really fun place.
My two issues?
1. Lone Star was $3.50! Aren't they usually a nickel? Ok, maybe not that cheap, but they are easily found other places for $2.
2. They need more bartenders. On a packed Saturday night they only had 2 ladies making the drinks, so the wait at the bar was a little long.
Despite the 2 downfalls, I would recommend a stop in here.
