SO good! My family and I were pleasantly surprised to find such good cheap eats on our way up to Ludington, MI. The sandwich selection didn't remind me of options I've found while traveling in France (no tomato & fresh mozzarella??), I was still quite impressed. I eat a mostly vegetarian diet, so the extensive vegetarian/vegan options were awesome.
Review Source:We really loved this place and kept going back during our visit.
Over a few days my family tried the tuna, vege combo, regular combo, vege BBQ (my fav), and the pastrami. Â They were all great. Â The garlic sauce, as other reviewers has said, was perfect on all of the sandwiches.
The tomato basil soup bowl was tasty and comes with a couple slices of warm baguette. Â My family raved about the soup the most.
Okay, I'm sadly a San Diegan Yelper so reviews out of my area of jurisdiction tend to make me less reliable and somewhat biased, but there's no bias here! My friend really...REALLY was excited to eat here and I was nonchalantly excited too. Zomg. Only the small community around here will ever taste this....sorry San Diego/California/WestCoast. But these probably are one of the best baguette sandwiches EVER.
Food:
- Bourbon Chicken ($5.49 for 6" or $6.99 for footlong): IM FLOORED. The woman said everything on their menu is great, but this sweet/zesty/savory marinade was killing me with the super fat and juicy pieces of chicken. I got the multigrain bread which has flaxseed and a lot of whole grains, and when toasted, makes it super soft and unbearably delicious. I also got the garlic sauce which went perfectly with the sandwich--and it wasn't really too garlicy. It was creamy and wholesome. UGhhhhh every bite made me go "mmMHmm!" and it was just a natural reaction to such a beautiful medley of tastes and fresh ingredients.
Pro:
- There are a lot of people who eat here, although I feel it's kind of in the middle of no where so only locals eat here. What a great kept secret. There's only 10 reviews too, ohh how much the world has been missing out!
- Very friendly staff.
- Casual atmosphere. Imagine a sub shop.
- Vegetarian friendly. Some options are: Vege BBQ Meatball, Vege Combo, Vege Chicken, Vege Chicken Hawaii, Vege Turkey. Sorry, I like eating real flesh but I'm sure others will prefer eating...soy. To each his own!
Con:
- No seriously, only two locations? Berrien Springs and St. Joseph, Michigan? -_-.
- Hours are a little funky sometimes. Open some days, some nights, yeah...
Observations:
- Looks like a normal restaurant, but the beauty happens right behind the counter.
- The trashcan says "Merci" teehee, i chuckled.
Tips:
- Two sizes: 6" or 12" for 1.50 more. Get the foot-long, it's worth it.
- Unsure what to get? Ask the woman taking your order. She's so nice. She's been working there for 20 years...insane!
- Eat from the side of the baguette that has the tail, first. It gets hard the fastest!
I drool. I drool. I want to come back once more before I leave for my side of the world...please God, please.
We LOVE Baguette! Â I used to live in Berrien and took this place for granted! Â Every time we come to Michigan on vacation we HAVE to stop at Baguette! Â The egg sandwich on sourdough with garlic sauce and all the fixings is to die for! Â Keep up the good work, and it'd be AWESOME to get one in California... :)
Review Source:Oven toasted sandwiches on French baguette bread. Popular with locals, especially the students in this small university town. Since a lot of vegetarians live in this area, the vegetarian choices tend to stand out, especially the vegetarian BBQ meatball. A cut above Subway, at least on par with Panera, but definitely unique and worth a try.
Review Source:There's a lot of hype about Baguette if you're not from Berrien. Let me say that the hype is true. Baguette tastes amazing when you eat it for the first time, like a glorified Subway or Quizno's. You can customize your sandwich with veggie options, different cheeses, vegetables, and a sauce. The garlic sauce is definitely the best, and the most popular. In particular, the Chicken Hawaiian and the Barbeque sandwiches are excellent options.
The ambiance is casual, with murals depicting the French countryside. Service is always slow, as usual when the restaurant is not a chain. I would avoid going here for lunch if you're short on time; it can take a while. They're not the cheapest sandwiches, but reasonably priced for the quality, portion, and taste.
Bottom line: tasty and filling customizable sandwiches, definitely choose the garlic sauce. And always remember: Mind over matter; food over mind.
Even if you have no other reason to be in this tiny town, Baguette de France will give you a reason. Â The sandwiches are decent on their own but made great by sauces and the vegetarian options. Â I wish this was in California.
The Turkey with curry sauce or BBQ with curry sauce are my favs.
