Do yourself a favor: Do go to the Bailey for the live music. Do go there for a couple drinks or to watch a game. They have wonderful big flat screen televisions. And do say hello to the owner. A VERY friendly man who really has his heart in the right place.
But go across the esplanade to Haddad's to eat before going to the Bailey, and don't expect the staff to treat you well. It's the townie mentality. They'll take care of the locals (and I mean Marshfield local. You are not local enough if you live in Hingham and certainly not if you live in Weymouth). The food is pub food. Bland and overpriced. I'll take it, if it weren't for the attitudes from the servers.
But definitely go there for the live music. It rocks!!!!
I'm about to give up on the quest for exceptional food at places that call themselves Irish pubs. Like the search for the Holy Grail I think finding either are unattainable.
As in many cases I'm lured in by the music, which this Thursday was incredible ,Sugar Ray and Monster Mike were awesome as usual.
For starters we ordered the onion rings, these showed promised lead me to believe the rest of the meal would be the same. The onion rings were fresh cut and battered ,fried crispy..thumbs up for these.
For entrees, from the menu I ordered the baked haddock with mashed and mixed veggies. To start fish has to be served hot...this was just warm..but to be honest didn't show a lot of promise overall. The topping was mushy My wife couldn't decide between the fish and chips and steak tips, went  with the tips, choose the tips and was equally disappointed. Meat was chewy and stringy, BBQ sauce had an odd taste as well.
Staff had a confused, sort of dazed attitude. Â Overall maybe good for a couple beers,
but that's pretty much it... Â That is except for the times they have music, good chance you'll catch some incredible Blues from some of Boston's and South Shore best blues-men...
I'm quite happy with this place. Their service is excellent and the beer selection is usually pretty good. The atmosphere is nice at night and the food (fairly typical English/Irish pub fare with some nice surprises) varies from very good to okay, depending on the choice. However, nothing will surprise you in a negative way here. I really enjoy the owner's conversations when we've been there and we always go back. Live music is a big plus. It's a nice spot!
Review Source:Have dined at the Bailey several times. Usually get a burger or sandwiche. Tonight I got the baked haddock which is the house special. OMG! Â It was so delicious. Fish was as fresh as it gets, cooked to perfection. Wonderful home made real mashed potatoes and carrots that were prepared in a delicious glaze. Truly a gourmet meal with an authentic home made flavor. My dining partner ordered the fish and chips. Also delicious! Â Not overpriced. Very ample portions. Best deal is weeknights Monday through Thursday. Dine between 4 and 6 and you get two meals for the price of one. A great deal! Â Owner Bill Bailey takes a genuine interest in customer satisfaction. Come in as a stranger, leave as a friend.
Review Source:I have been to the Bailey on several occasions and have always had a good experience. We enjoy the live music and beer and have also eaten there several times, the Bailey tenders are great, as well as their Sat prime rib specials. It can be a little pricey but what we're used to paying for good pub food on the south shore. It is chilly in the winter, especially if you are there at an off time. Fri and Sat night it's often crowded and cozy :)
Review Source:I've been here two times since the place opened. One about 2 weeks after the opening and the other time last week, both for dinner.
The first time I went was with a group of 4 and we were seated right away on a Saturday evening in March. The place is pretty cool inside. I got the fish n chips, others got the shepherds pie, baked haddock and the bangers and mashed. That night, everyone loved their meals but me. The batter to the fish was nice and crispy but it was flavorless. So so disappointing because the fish was great quality, but then again it should be when you're a stones throw away from the ocean.
We gave the place a few months to work the kinks out and actually get their menus printed on something other than computer paper and went back last week for dinner. We went on a Friday night at 5:30 and there was barely anyone there yet. We opted to sit at the front of the restaurant in the porch area but ended up not liking it because it was very echo-y with the loud guys at the bar and a bit weird having people walk by the window staring in at what you're eating. From now on, we will eat in the  main room.
Anyways, thats just some background info. Both me and fiance got the baked haddock because he got it the first time there and it was delicious. We both started out with a caesar salad which was awesome and a good size. I got with my dinner fries and glazed carrots and he got the same but with mashed instead of fries. Fish was awesome...perfectly cooked, good portion and it had an amazing flavor. Normally I'd use a little salt and sometimes tartar sauce or ketchup but none of that was needed. Sometimes fish can be a bit bland but not here. Its the best I've had in a long time and definitely the best in Marshfield, in my opinion. Could very well be the best all the way down to Plymouth.
With the baked haddock and caesar salad for us both and one beer for him, the bill came to $50. A bit pricey but so worth it for the dinner. Can't wait to go back and I will definitely be coming here often now!
I just enjoyed one of the best recent meals out, at a delightful Irish pub, right on the esplanade in Brant Rock.
The Bailey (site of the former "Lobster Tale") is a very welcome addition to Marshfield, and especially to the beachy area of Brant Rock. The atmosphere is warm and casual, a perfect place to meet up with friends for drinks and a really good burger, or a nice night out with the family for real deal British fare (especially after a perfect day on the beach!).
Even though the menu is not extensive, I still had the hardest time narrowing it down between the Fish & Chips and the Chicken Curry. The owner, Bill Bailey, told me that they keep their menu simple, and that all of the Irish dishes are really authentic. (He also mentioned that I had picked two of his favorites.) I was in a seafood mood, after inhaling that intoxicating sea air all day, so I opted for the Fish & Chips. It was delicious. Crispy, crunchy perfect coating covering the most tender, flaky Haddock. It really hit the spot. (Those yummy double-fried fries accompanied the fish.) Dan had one of the burgers, and I couldn't get a word out of him while he devoured it. (He did mumble a barely decipherable "delicious" during the last few bites.)
I really would be amiss not to mention the genuinely warm, kind, very talented owner, Bill. (Super talented... It's Bill's recipe for the chowder... Undeniably one of the BEST chowders I've had in my life. Super creamy, full of flavor, I'm not sure I can convey just how delicious it was. I can say that 1) I desperately wanted to lick the bowl, and 2) I have to convince the far too humble Bill to enter it in Chowderfests immediately!) He visits all of the tables, and instantly makes you feel as if you've known him for years. I just really loved the vibe of the Bailey, and we'll  certainly be coming here often.
Mixed feelings about The Bailey. Â
Pros: This is probably the only bar I will go into in Brant Rock; the others are just outdated and not me.
The owner walks around and makes you feel welcome.
The beers on draft are great.
The live music is always a plus.
Cons:
Looking out the window you see sand in the parking lot / street, and it's hard to get into the Irish grove when you see that...
The menu is limited, almost lame.
With some improvements to the menu, I could see myself coming back.
