The Barracks is BACK and better than ever! Â
There are new owners and they have made some improvements but the VERY popular Sunday beer bust hasn't missed a beat! Â There is something very special about Sunday's at The Barracks and it was missed while they lost their liquor license. Â It's the kind of place you can walk into alone and know you will see someone you know and can hang with...
Haven't been there for anything but the bust as of yet but they are doing more marketing and social media and some of the special nights sound like fun... will have to check it out...
As previously stated by another yelper.... they lost their license (see pic). Â Was more bummed that we drove all the way down only to be greeted by a locked door.
Blame my assumption, but would have been nice if their new hours were a little more available on their website or something. I'll update my review hopefully in the future if they get their license back,
Really not my cup of tea. Kind of agree with everything negative that I read from the other reviewers. I'm not a leather bar guy at all, really... but let me tell you... I've gone to leather bars in SF and LA and had fun from time to time. Not tonight. My friends and I did an about face and unanimously decided to run like hell to another venue.
Review Source:Used to have fun here many years ago, now it seems like they try too hard to be smutty. Â "look at us, we're leather daddy's". Â The patrons are now WAY too costumy/gimmiky. Â And I know that fettishes are human nature, but don't stand behind me when I'm taking a piss with a plastic cup and ask "are you going to waste that?" the answer will always be YES
Review Source:This is a great leather Levi real men's bar. The Sunday beer bust is not just the place to be but a world famous event and not to be missed. The wednesday underwear night is not for the light of heart and is as much fun as people at Walmart .com. The bartenders are men and sincerely good people. The owners John and Carl are just a couple of funsters. See ya there any Tuesday for the free pool tournament.
Review Source:Very good positive atmosphere. Very popular with both leather/levi types and others. Â Best place to hang out on a Saturday night or Sunday afternoon. I don't understand the negative reviews at all since I have found patrons and staff to be generally better behaved and friendly than other places in the Palm Springs areas. Â Much more active crowd, not just sitting around. Â
Bar offers large outdoor patio, hot dog stand on Sundays, indoor dancefloor/ exhibit space for leather/ sm themed events, large indoor bar with three bartenders most times I have been there. Â Room for large groups but often very crowded on weekends. Bar is just behind gas station, so mixed crowds may lead to curious looks at times from gas station patrons.
Essentially a leather themed S&M bar. In this case S&M stands for Stand and Model. This is what most patrons do, get their drinks, stand at the bar or at a table outside, strike various poses and hope someone comes on to them. You need to be bold or forward, no one will come and talk to you or make any move to you, unless of course you came with a group of friends. All of this changes Sunday afternoon for their famous weekly beer bust when it gets so crowded, you are not able to move. This beer bust starts at 2pm and goes until 2am, although the busiest times are from 3-7 pm. I have been here a few times on various nights and my drinking companions report it can get pretty frisky on Wednesday nights for underwear night. Â Just a warning to all you coastal queens who feel the need to bring your female entourage with you to the bars, leave them at home for this one.
Review Source:Anyone who doesn't like this place doesn't understand this place. It's a sleazy leather bar where gay men who enjoy being around other gay men. It's not a dance bar a twinky bar, although sometimes those types wander it. For what it is - it's perfect. Lots of shirtless men and plenty of dark, smelly corners.
I was there on a Sunday in mid-June and had a great time.
It you are a gay man and into the Leather Scene this is the bar for you. Â Some how this sleepy little town seems to attract a better crowd than the LA bars on the weekends? Â They make a stiff drink and have a good selection of beer. Â Sometimes the DJ is a little behind the times, but who cares?
Best time to visit is for PS Leather Weekend in the Fall, the place will be packed with hot guys from all over the country! Â The Sunday Beer Bust is always packed with bears and local alcoholics, but a few leathermen show up.
I am a Mr. Parker fan, so how could I say no when friends said we'll be seeing Mr. Parker in his more casual after-hours bar - Mr. Todd Parker, that is, the 2010 Mr. Leather.  He is a great guy. Congrats to Gordo too. No less a leather daddy: rock-hard, ripped, tan AND yet seemingly buttery soft in all the pink-places.  It was over the hill from there. No offense, but I met the friends after dinner in my own wheels, thinking I'd not need to stay as long as dinning  at Mr. Parker's in PS.  I wish the mood lighting from dinner with Mr. Parker was at this bar in Cathedral City. It was just bright enough for me to realize the naked guy that looked familiar was the check-up guy at the market. I really did not need to check-out the check-out guy.
Review Source:I wish they would play music that MEN want to hear, not 14-year-old girl teeny bopper shit. What is sexier than rock and roll music? Guitars and drums make you horny. This is not a dance club, but they continually play dance music. It's not a shopping mall, but they play pop music. The DJ should go to the Lone Star in San Francisco or the Faultline in LA and listen to what they are playing there. They mix in some newer pop stuff, but they play mostly rock, punk, indie, garage rock, etc. Music that gets the juices flowing....not music I would hear at my niece's birthday party.
Review Source:Here are some nutshell descriptives:
"If you must"
"Watch your wallets"
"Expensive sucky drinks"
"Don't bother"
"Not worth the gas" Â A 10 minute drive from downtown PS.
The inside bar was decent enough, but step into any other location, and you will be disappointed. Â
The back patio was dark, creepy, cruisy and scarey. Â Maybe I would feel differently if the clientele where something to look at. Â The outside bars where cheaply put together, with some drinks being served out of K-mart style rolling coolers. Â
Don't get me wrong, cruisy bars have their place, but this place was just nasty.
We ordered the "Big Dick" (which we assumed would be a "big" drink.) Â Instead, for $8.00, we had a small plastic cup that was 2/3rds ice and 1/3 watered down drink.
This was supposed to be a leather fetish bar, but it turned out just to be downright creepy, especially once it started to get dark outside. Â It was definitely popular and very crowded on a holiday weekend, but most of the patrons were sketchy. Â Twice, I had to tell guys I wasn't interested in to quit touching me. Â I wouldn't feel comfortable going there late at night by myself and definitely won't be going back.
