Basin Creek IS a country store. The signs on the front of the building announce such items as, bait, ice, beer, wine, etc... But, what they really excel in is burgers, hot dogs, and a great variety of beers by the bottle.
The building was built around the 1900 and was a drive-in when my mother was a teenager and living "down the road." The owners have kept the building intact and in pretty good shape. The original floors are "mountainy gorgeous!" There are animal heads on the walls and a huge fireplace in the "main" dining area. Typical to a small town in NC, the staff is friendly and efficient.
My suggestions off the menu would be to keep it simple, a Carolina cheeseburger (with chili, onions, slaw, and mustard) or their split and grilled hot dog (with chili, onions, slaw, and mustard). The onion rings are the best around. If you aren't up for one of their assortment of beers (which rival any collection in Charlotte), try the sweet tea!
Beware of the buckets to collect rain around the dining room, and maybe even on your table, if it's pouring down outside! :-)
