This sits in the old downtown district in Bastrop and is right on the river. They have a nice open area where you can kind of wander around with a beer and a Bourbon Bar on the way to brewpub. The Bourbon Bar is cozy to say the least with I think about 6 very close bar stools and a small back room. Despite its size the selection was extensive. Shots ranged from $10 for Jack Daniel's single barrel to $55 for a shot of the 18 year old Jameson and up. It has a very rustic feel but in a nice way (I have seen rustic done wrong and this was rustic done right). Behind the brewpub is a large patio area with a modest stage for a band (this is the part that overlooks the river). Ambiance was 5/5.
The brewpub has 4 house beers, I got the honey brown which was excellent. My wife got the IPA. I was pleasantly surprised by the IPA (IPAs are not my favorite style of beer), very approachable and drinkable. Â I have had over 30 IPAs and I would rank this as either 2nd or tied for 1st. I seem to recall they had about 15 beers on tap (they are on taplister, I am just to lazy check) and around 6 more in bottles (including a cider). I would have preferred to seem more Texas beers on tap especially local, but that is a preference and not a fault. Brewery 5/5
The food. I had the green chili mac-n-cheese with grilled chicken. It came out less than hot (no one would confuse it as cold, but it should have been warmer). My first impression was it really needs more cheese. I kinda felt like was eating the "store brand mac-n-cheese." That being said the green chili flavor sets in slightly after the initial bite. The green chili flavor was perfect, spicy and flavorful but not hot. Likewise the blacked chicken was perfectly seasoned but a little sparse. My wife got the fish and chips. It was a very generous portion of fish with french fries. I sampled her fish and we both agreed that it was really good (both the batter and the fish). My wife felt it was over battered (there was a lot) but there was also a lot of fish underneath. She ended up pulling off a significant amount of batter and just eating the fish. My food was a 3/5 and with some minor tune ups could easily be a lot better. I thought the fish and chips was a 4/5.
I will definitely be back although I don't know when. They had a freshwater trout (not fried) that is calling my name.
Wonderful ambiance with a great multi-tiered patio overlooking the Colorado. Â There's a playground if you want to bring the kids, the patio is dog-friendly, the staff is nice, the food is good and the beer is all from Texas. Â It's hard to argue with a place that tries this hard to do it right.
Their in-house brews are consistent, but not genius. Â I do think it's important to support the local talent, though. Â My only real complaint is that the food, while quite good, is a bit on the spendy side (salad, two sandwiches, and a couple of beers at about $50 after tip) but it's such a nice business that that has not stopped me from going regularly. Â It's not for the obnoxious & yelling PBR crowd, and I think that's worth a bit of a premium.
This place gets five stars for so many reasons. Â The first is not a single crap beer on the menu! Â Okay, sure they have Lone Star BUT there is no Bud, Coors nor Miller! Â You Go and thank you for that. Â They have a small selection of tap beers but it's LOCAL people. Â Get on with your sorry selfs and realize this is good. Â Expand your horizons and embrace the local beers. Â I mean come on, for once in your life you might actually taste beer and not water in a can! Â
The location is amazing - right on the Colorado river in this little area of old cabins or houses that have been reinvented into a quint little mecca of amazing. Â Restored, renewed, reused. Â What's old is new again and for good reason.
The Brewhouse is huge with an amazing outdoor area. They have live local music on Friday and Saturday night and a small but excellent menu of food that is all local. I love it ----- support the local economy, support the state and do what's right for the planet all in one place. Did I mention the food was also fabulous? Waitstaff were educated and friendly, service was spot on and the prices were good.
And in case no one was paying attention, THIS PLACE HAS TOLD THE CRAP BEERS OF Coorbudmiller --- NO THANK YOU! Â Now make the drive, visit an awesome location, eat some great food and finally taste a real beer! Â It's a good thing.
I want to love this place. I mean, really love it. The venue for music is awesome and the location is ideal. The food, I'll admit, is pretty good and consistent. The last few times I've been, the food has been very late leaving the kitchen. The last time I went was last Friday for Band of Heathens. Again- great venue, nice hostess, but this time we got an amazing waiter who was accommodating and very apologetic when our entree took about an hour and change to appear at our table.
I wish there were more gluten free options, as I have an allergy, but that's OK.
The BBQ chicken is super tasty and I can only hope that it goes up from here! :)
Came here with my wife and one of our kids on July 4th for a late lunch outside. The staff was very courteous and Stefan (mgr) made us feel very welcome. I had a Cobb salad and a flight of four of their in-house brews. I was expecting their in-house suds to be a little amateur, but was surprised to find that they all had good, distinct profiles. I will definitely come here every time I make a trip through Bastrop.
Review Source:Downgrade two stars after my last couple of horrible experiences at the Bastrop Brewhouse. I love the setting of this place - a bunch of old houses (shacks really) arranged on the banks of the Colorado River in downtown Bastrop. The first few times I went to the Brewhouse, the food was good and prices reasonable (service - well, that's another story). They were out of their own, house-brewed beer about half the time (one time it was blamed on the weather?).
My last visit took place after they changed the menu - prices are WAY up, charging almost fine dining prices for what is a informal experience. Service is a nagging problem here. From the hostess stand to the bartender (who argued with me, telling me they've never been out of their own beer...what a (young) a-hole) to the server, this place needs some simple staff training. After being told we'd have to wait 30 minutes for a table for two (even though there were a number of two-tops available) I asked why the wait and was told they 'didn't want to back up the kitchen.' When we did get seated, our first encounter (after a ten minutes) with our waitress was "you ready (to order)?" Wow. The canned music where we were sitting inside was cranked up so my friend and I were shouting at each other (we asked to lower the tunes - which a-hole bartender didn't want to do).
The menu has removed some of my favorites (house made potato chips and onion dip - great with beer) and has increased prices to levels only seen in ridiculous places like Dallas (and now Austin). For example, the French Dip sandwich is now $14 and a wedge salad is $9. Nothing incredibly special, the sandwich *is* tasty with a good au jus and a side of (commercially made) chips. My friend had the wings which were OK. The Brewhouse ales we had were $5 each.
This was a good place but it's definitely been slipping as of late. Its got a great location but service and pricing will make probably cause me to pass the next time the Brewhouse comes up as a place to go.
So I went here with no expectations what-so-ever. I guess that's the best place to start. It was raining insanely outside but everyone was in great spirits. The food was excellent. There would have been a great band playing outside if it wasn't for the torrential rain storm outside. The ONLY issue I have with this place is the service was the longest wait I've ever seen. The wait staff was very friendly but slower than rush hour traffic.
Step up the speed for a five star rating... Otherwise great place to go listen to live music on a Friday night.
Great place to stop on the way into or out of town. BB is set right on the Colorado river and is a peaceful place to have a beer. (Yes, they do have a kiddie area, but it's down a flight of stairs and over a hundred yards away - whoop!) Both times we've been at sunset and it was pretty easy to forget you were in....Bastrop. (Said in the same voice as Wayne announcing he's in Delaware: http://tinyurl.com/79sfg…)
The Brewhouse is built in among a series of wooden cabins essentially, that, as I understand, also hold a whiskey bar (but has yet to be open the couple times we've gone). We've always at on the (dog-friendly) patio but it looks pretty large inside. It's been moderately busy when we've gone but we've always found parking (fyi - it's a dirt/gravel "lot") and a spot on the deck so that's a bonus.
For a Brewhouse, I'm not impressed with the selection of beer they have on tap (about 15) and they have been out of one or two each time I've visited which is definitely a fail. Minus a star, sad face. Alas, we've managed to find something tasty to enjoy, including most recently the That's What She Said double chocolate stout. Good stuff.
Burgers are great and they have some unusual combos (ex: Caribbean patty with plantains, yum) or you can build your own. The chips on the side are solid and I recommend you get some of the "dip" on the side. (No need to order and appetizer portion - it's way too much dip and way too many chips.)
For burgers and beer in the middle of nowhere, I suspect you can't top this!
Sprawling down the steep bank of the Colorado River, tucked behind the historic downtown of Bastrop, this brewhouse made me wish I wasn't on my way back to Houston and had time to grow roots for the day.
Varied pub-food menu is average to good. Sausage on a pretzel bun was ok, and the bun was sourdough not pretzel, but the green chili mac and cheese was addictive. Park your usual expectations of the potato salad, this one is served warm and with sauerkraut mixed in. Think mashed potatoes with lots of extras. Tasty but not what you expected.
Of course, the two main reasons to go here would be sitting outside by the river with a cold, local brew in hand while watching the kayaks go by or listening to a band. Their beer board is on the LCD TVs scatted about, which includes their year-round and seasonal brews, along with beer from other Texas breweries. Enjoyed their year-round honey brown, nice for those days when you just don't feel like hops.
One odd note - guys bathroom is stalls only, which can seriously impede the throughput rate. Highly recommend they re-think that.
This was an amazing experience. We went with friends and our kids and it was wonderful. They have a great kids area with two "Dr. Suess" houses, chalkboard walls and sans pits. The food was good, I especially recommend the fish and chips. The beer was excellent! I got the imperial oatmeal stout and it was wonderful! I highly recommend this venue. They has a great free band on one end of the patio and "picking on the porch" on the other end. Wonderful Friday night place!
Review Source:I dig this place! Ended up going here twice in one weekend 'cause I liked it so much. I thoroughly enjoyed the Honey White beer and recommend it for those who like a lighter, sweeter beer that's not super hoppy. Onion rings were also tasty, as was the burger with green chile mac n cheese.
The view of the Colorado River was superb, but the decks were packed both times I went, so we ended up eating indoors. If you're looking for the deck experience to watch live music, you might want to get there early. Even so, I liked the down-home, rustic atmosphere. If I lived in Bastrop, this would definitely be a regular hang-out.
I was warned by a few locals that this place had bad service and that they ran out of things a lot, but this was not my experience. We had great service, and everything I wanted from the menu was available. Gotta give a shout out to our server, Jesus, who took care of us well and made sure our drinks were full.
Go with friends and have a great time! ...unless of course you're uptight or a yuppie :)
We've been wanting to come by this place for a while and we finally went with a friend that was visiting. We were very happy with the place. It was a bit cold for us outside so we moved to a table inside. The server was very accommodating and we moved right away. The server was nice and the service was not the speediest but was fine. The food was really good and so were our drinks. The place was nice, we would've liked to be outside because there was a band playing live and it looked nice. Everyone seemed nice and our experience was rather good. We all had burgers and they were good! I was certainly impressed and I'm sure I'll be back to try a few of the beers.
Review Source:This brewhouse is good; it has original atmosphere, friendly staff, great outdoor seating and decent food. I never try to expect too much from brewhouse food in general- it's just a given in the US that it's consistently middle-of-the-road comfort food in places like this. However, all of the good elements seemed to be balanced by things that threw it off; long food/service time for small crowds, dirty wine glasses, a tab that was not reviewed by the waitstaff.
It wasn't a bad experience, but I would rather not spend my dining experience and dollars looking after myself and my food. I would still be willing to hit this place up again, maybe it was just an off night.
First I think this place is getting a bad rap and is a bit understood from yelpers. Some seem to be looking for fine dining, others yearning for the poetic style of artichoke dip only found at Applebee's. I see it as a brew house/ ice house that wants to be the neighborhood spot for all bastrop. I have enjoyed lunch/ beers with my dad here, beer with a buddy and dinner with my family (including 4year old). Â
What makes this place special is their want and ability to make everyone from 4 to 70 welcome and comfortable. You want to sit at bar to drown your sorrows step to the left over there, live music why it's just outside, four year old with the energy of a thousand suns outside to the right.
This is the best spot between Austin to Houston to grab a beer and enjoy pub fare in a relaxed, comfortable environment.
The food, house brew, and service will mature with time. Â In the mean time grab a beer, a good bite to eat and enjoy the Colorado river while supporting a local place that is making bastrop not only a better place to live , but also a better place to visit. Â The world does not need any more Applebee's.
I upgraded to 5 stars but that is a bit of a stretch. Â Victoria the server extrodinaire made for the extra star, but the food still needs a bit of work. Â My chix was a bit dry, however, it was served quickly, the beer ( double ipa) was stellar and the service could not have been been better. Â
Special nod to Victoria who went down to the beer garden to let my family know the food was served. Â Wow! Â I am sure they can not do that when it's busy, but wow!!
I live in Chicago, but visit family here often. Â I am appreciative of this place being here. Â Reminds me of what Austin was like in the 90's.
The ladyfriend's family lives in Houston, so we often stop at the Bastrop brewhouse on our way home from Houston.
What a great spot in Bastrop! Gorgeous view from their porch/patio area of the river. The porch is dog friendly, so bring your pups.
The food is good. I'm a vegetarian, so I always go for their veggie patty with goat cheese. It's delicious.
Beer selection is good, but one gripe is that they never seem to have all of their beers in stock (they brew their own). I would highly recommend the beers that they brew themselves. Their Kolsch was light, a perfect summer-time beer, their Rye-IPA will knock your socks off, and their Imperial Stout tasted like liquid chocolate. Very good stuff.
A group of us had lunch here this last weekend and I am very happy to say that it was a fairly big improvement over our first trip despite the partially smoke filled dining room. No idea what was up in the kitchen, but it was amusing watching a couple of the guys manhandling a few of the huge windows open to try to clear things out.
They were out of all of the sausages and the corned beef items on the menu which was disappointing but we all found other items on the menu to enjoy.
I don't remember what everyone had but I know that the onion rings I had with my burger were some of the best I ever have had. Seriously will be back for these alone if nothing else.
They seemed also to be catching up on the beer selections as nothing was out that they had on tap. Now that we know their beer tastes a bit better after our first visit we were also able to make better choices that we enjoyed more.
I am really happy Bastrop has this place. Will be back again sooner than later.
this place started off on a high note but then just got more and more disappointing as the meal went on. the spinach and artichoke dip we started off with was pretty solid. creamy and rich but the artichokes hearts were just quartered. they were so big that they kept breaking all our chips everytime we went in for the dip. when we were done with the dip all that was left was a couple quartered artichoke hearts. like i said dip was good but maybe they could have cut up the artichoke hearts a little better. then it was time for the main course. a couple of us had our hearts set on trying one of the brats. unfortunately they dont make their own and order it from someone else. well they happened to have run out... great.... so a lot of us decided to go with one of their many burgers which on paper sounded great! when ordering the burger the waitress lets me know that they come medium unless otherwise specified.... perfect thats how i like my burgers. also when you say that it makes me think that the patty is pretty thick... well the burger comes out and the patty is not particularly thick at all and when i cut into the burger it was definitely well done... my friend's burger actually came burnt. i got a burger with goat cheese and green chiles. goat cheese was decent. green chiles had no taste to them. its also $3 extra to get fries instead of chips.
so heres the quick summary... this place has less than mediocre food and is way overpriced. save your money and go somewhere else.
Amazing! Â Some friends and I went for dinner and I can not even begin to describe. Â The service was impeccable! Â A nice change from the mediocre service that seems to be common around here.
The food was delicious! Â I most definitely recommend the fish and chips, but everything that we ordered was to die for.
The atmosphere is wonderful! Â They play great music and have amazing views. Â I didn't try any beer, do I can't comment in that area, but I will be going back soon. Â It was truly a perfect experience!
Stopped by for lunch today after riding in the Pedal Through the Pines bike ride. The beer (their IPA) was excellent! The food was just okay and the service, while welcoming, leaves quite a bit of room for improvement. My fiancé and I both had cheeseburgers, hers with fries, mine with onion rings. The fries were cold, the onion rings way overly battered for my taste, and the burgers were both way too dry (cooked more than either of us would have preferred and no chance to make a request). They serve their burgers with no condiments, which is fine with me, but they don't ask up front what condiments you might like with your burger. This meant, at least today, that our burgers sat on our table for close to 10 minutes before we could dress and eat them, probably adding to the dryness of the meat. We did not, however, wait to start eating the fries and rings, so that is no explanation for the cold fries.
The setting is really nice, with plenty of outdoor and indoor seating, all overlooking the river in downtown Bastrop. The staff was all friendly and seemed to be enthusiastic. Given all of that, and the excellent beer, I'd be open to trying the Bastrop Brewhouse again. But they do have room to improve.
SUCH a cute place. So many different buildings to take note of, and all of them come together to present a mighty fine beer, mac-n-cheese, and set of onion rings. I tried the double chocolate stout and whew-y!! Filling and interestingly enough, healthy tasting. Won't even bother with location, adorable and right by the river, with a bunch of odds and ends here and there, with little alice and wonderland play houses for the kids. I wonder what's up with the air streamed trailer? Loved it so much I even got a shirt. And I can't remember her name, but my comedic interactions with the GM kicked butt!
Review Source:Drove in from Austin to meet friends and was pleasantly surprised. Bastrop Brewhouse is a great place! Loved the burgers, loved, loved the double stout! Had a great time and truly enjoyed myself, will for sure be back, got try the other brews. :)
Whoever runs this place knows what they are doing and that's not so common these days.
best place for GOOD BEER and a burger in bastrop
all the other reviews fail to mention that this is the ONLY place in bastrop to grab a good micro brew and burger. I sat at the bar and the service was excellent. Maggie at the bar did a great job even though the drunken guys next to me kept giving her a hard time.
I ordered their Lost Pines Double IPA and then the 512 IPA. The Lost Pines Double IPA is one of their brews made in house and it was awesome. The 512 was average. My burger was outstanding also. I dont remember the name of the burger but it is at the bottom right hand side of the burger section on the menu... most likely because i had 2 more of the Lost Pines Double IPA after (9.7%abv).
Anyway, if you want a good micro brew and burger this is the place to go in Bastrop. I was looking for just that and, after a few failed attempts at other places, found this kick a** joint. Idk why these other people have rated it soo poorly because, honestly, Bastrop needs more places like this.
BTW live music on the weekends and outside seating. you cant go wrong.
Although the staff is friendly and my lunch-time experiences had been mediocre to pleasant, my third visit to this establishment is now my last. Â We were seated quickly on a Thursday night when absolutely nothing was going on other than dinner service in an adequately-staffed and far from adequately-seated restaurant. Â We were approached by a waitiress quickly, but it took over 20 minutes to get a drink (we were told they were busy and there were "tickets ahead of us," but half a dining room full and a quiet bar area does not "busy" make, unless the bartender is busy posting an overly verbose status on Facebook and trying to make an over-the counter deal with the local assistant DA regarding old traffic tickets. Â And in Bastrop, not even then). Â
I ordered a half-dozen oysters on the half-shell, which were about to be shucked by someone who appeared to know what he was doing, sitting outside the restaurant and surrounded by admiring females. Â Thirty-five minutes later, on my way to the restroom, I noticed he was surrounded by even more admiring females who were now flirting and smoking as he sat with what appeared to be the same tray of oysters that he had in front of him when we had entered the establishment over half an hour ago. Â Back at the table, and forty-five minutes later with no oysters (and we are talking about only 6 oysters here, not 6 dozen, in a not very busy restaurant), I was more than irritated.
Â
Our waitress seemed to also be avoiding us until almost fifty minutes since being seated. Â And then, perhaps because one of us would have surely cannabalized the other, the burger my husband ordered arrived. Â It was named, aptly, the Good Morning Burger (because we both would have liked to start this whole day over by now) and after his first bite, my husband suggested it should have been called the Got Up on the Wrong Side of the Bed Burger. Â The fried egg, which should have been runny, was overcooked and rubbery with a hard yolk. Â The burger patty was a lifeless, tasteless frozen disc of congealed meat-like mass that had also been overcooked. Â The shining pinnacle of our culinary experience that evening, the bun, did not appear to have been made on premises. Â The fries (possibly made on premises, but doubtful) had been sitting for a while before being plated, so they were shriveled, cold and limp. Â The "green chile queso," which my husband had asked to have over his fries, had a thick skin on it, looking suspectingly like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for longer than is advisable for a quasi-foodlike product that is just one molecule away from plastic. Â
He managed to gnaw through less than half of his burger when our waitress arrived to ask us how were were doing. Â There were still no oysters for me, but there were a mulitude of excuses from the waitress.
Is it necessary for me to say that we will not be returning?
Bastrop Brewhouse had pretty good food, pretty good beer and a nice atmosphere, but we had a few hangups while we were there. My husband and I along with a few friends were traveling back to Austin from the Sherwood Forest Faire when our friend suggested we stop here for dinner, upon the suggestion of a friend of his.
We were seated pretty quickly by the nice hostesses in the back room that had larger tables. Our drink orders were taken pretty quickly as well. Unfortunately, they were out of two of their beers, (the kolsch and something else) which should never happen at a brew house. Secondly, the beers that were ordered took forever to get to us.. it had to have been at least 15 minutes before my friends got their beers. This should also never happen at a brew house.
On to the food... I had the pesto fettuccine with chicken. It was mainly meh. It had some good veggies to it, but there wasn't enough chicken or vegetables in relation to the noodles and the entire dish was a little bland. Everyone else really liked their meals - the fish and chips looked excellent, the Ruben was one of the best my husband has ever had, and our other friend said his chicken pesto sandwich and homemade chips were really good. The boys also ordered chili and said it was ok - it had a sweet flavor to it that neither of them were really into. The pricing for everything was a little bit higher than I was expecting for a brew house.
Our waitress was a mixed bag of attentiveness and MIA the entire evening. While she was very nice, I think that maybe she was spread a little too thin on tables. Otherwise, the ambiance was really cool. They have a beer garden, a bunch of outside decks with views of the river and the restaurant is situation in a cluster of weathered little buildings that have been decorated to have an old feel to them. It's a neat concept and a cool idea, I really liked it.
I'd really love to give more stars here but a brew house should never be out of it's own beer, it shouldn't take forever to get your beer, and my entree could have been better, with lower pricing. So, three stars it is. I'd venture to go back here sometime... I really did think it was cool.
I recently ate here for the first time with friends. The atmosphere was great, can't knock the patio seating overlooking the river. The service was good, though the waitress did confuse "porter" with "stout" and I was a wee bit sad to see a limited selection of house beers.
We started out with the fried calamari. The red sauce -- not bad, but not fantastic -- was really watery and didn't cling to the calamari, which itself was bland and rather disappointing. We also found the calamari to be quite rubbery, so we returned it to the kitchen for another batch, which to their credit they got right the second time, and to his credit, the manager came out and made sure it met with our approval.
On to the main course -- I had the fish and chips. It was decent enough effort for pub grub, but for a more traditional restaurant I wouldn't have been impressed -- neither the fish nor the chips had much flavor, so I was a bit disappointed.
My friends enjoyed their entrees (one had a veggie sandwich with onion rings, the other had the herb-encrusted salmon with veggies -- I sampled the salmon and it was good), but they weren't totally blown away either.
We were excited that Bastrop Brewhouse was opening, and I was surprised to see that it's become a full-on restaurant (maybe that was always the intent, I don't know), but I'm not so sure we'd return just for the food. For the beer, yes, but the food just wasn't knock-your-socks-off. They know their audience, and I'm sure they'll do fine in Bastrop. I'm just really nervous they're trying to be two things here -- brewhouse AND sit-down restaurant.
Maybe I'm judging Bastrop Brewhouse through the lens of a veteran Dog and Duck/Opal Divine fan, and I have this expectation of what pub grub should be. Perhaps that's a bit unfair, and I should see this more as a restaurant instead of a pub. There's a certain intangible that a restaurant needs, and this JUST misses it.
I almost gave it just 2 stars, but I bumped it up to 3 with the hope that maybe the late hour or the full house explained the food. I'm hopeful that if I return and try the Cottage Pie and Bangers and Mash, I'll feel better about my initial disappointment. I'm willing to give this place another chance, if only to support local brewhouses.
Service was superb...Sorry do not remember our servers name. Â We were there for a kiddos B'Day party on Tuesday Jan 29th and he (our server) Â was all there for us!. Â Food was great...ordered the Chicken Salad but after 2 of the Stout Beer on tap and one or two of those lucious onion rings... I had to ask for a to-go box. Â Even after two days in my fridge that salad was fresh and tasty...super fresh greens lasted thru!
BTW our 'kiddo' requested the Bastrop Brewhouse for her birthday.....Not that this is a great 'Kid' place but just a great friendly atmosphere that even a child can see!
Finally their beer has arrived. And it is well worth it. I have lived in Northern California, a place brewers know their business. You know, like Lagunitas IPA?
Edward, their brewmeister, knows what he is doing (it just took a while).
They released 2 beers recently and will release 2 more on Friday at their "End of the World Party".
New Chef! The menu has been updated and you will notice some true pub favorites like Cottage Pie (Shepherd's Pie with ground beef instead of lamb) and Bangers and Mash. Let me tell you something.... The bangers are as legit as they come! I found out the sausages are made custom in Smithville based on an exclusive English recipe. Bad Ass! Â The Cottage Pie is also the real deal!
My wife had the new chicken club sandwich (on Ciabatta) and loved it.
There are a few other new items like short ribs that I plan on trying the next time I am there. This place keeps on getting better!
Oh, did I mention, on busy nights and events they open another little building called "The Bourbon Bar" - it looks like an old west saloon and they serve single batch bourbons over ice or as shots. Awesome!
Bastrop is really becoming a place to come to!
LAME......a brew house that ran out of their own beer. Â The bartender explained to me that their was such a demand for the beer they ran out. He stated 12/12/12 is their grand opening. So you been opened for month's without your beer? To add insult to injury the bartender began to try to explain to me that the beers they DO have on tap are all brewed in Texas and are very similar to Bastrop's brewed quality. I laughed and walked out. Â Dogfish Head is not in Texas!!! This place is weak. I was in town for the weekend and will probably never come back to Bastrop. The only good thing was that I left this place and discovered RAMOS down the street. Â This is why I gave it a 1 star.
Review Source:'Meh. I've experienced better.' pretty much sums it up. I really wanted to like this place, but my wife and I were just not impressed. The meal started OK. We had their pretzel appetizer which was hot, fresh and tasty. I had their Lost Pines IPA and I thought it was OK. However, our salads looked like they were two days old. My wife didn't even eat hers. I had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and beans. Aside from the sauce, the meatloaf was pretty tasteless and spongy. The potatoes had very little flavor as well. My wife had the Pasta Primavera and said it was just average. This place is pretty new and really hope they do well. We sat outside and the view from their deck was nice though.
Review Source:Not very good experience, here's a list of what went wrong...
1) No coffee (wtf)
2) Told me I couldn't have what I ordered even though I ordered b4 the lunch time ended.
3) When I got my meatloaf sandwich I had trouble cutting it in half bc the meat was still wrapped in plastic wrap!
4) When they brought my replacement sandwich it had ingredients on it I had omitted on the original order.
5) Even though they gave me my order free they billed us for extra items so they would still make their money. I squashed that though.
The server was nice though.
Two stars does not reflect the quality of the food. Â I had the poblano and goat cheeseburger and my wife had the fish and chips. Both were very good. Â The rating reflects my disappointment that they still did not have any house brews ready (note this was also the case in the review in August) and the service was lacking. Â In fact, the service was not really sure
as to what was available from a commercial brew standpoint. Â Clearly, management needs to get their act together and train/hire an appropriate staff and find someone who knows how to brew.
One major caveat for my review: The brewery wasn't active when I was there, so I didn't get to try their own beer
Pros:
Loved the setting, the patio and view is awesome, little bit out of the way if your'e passing through Bastrop but worth a visit. Lots of space, had a band setting up the day I was there.
Cons:
Food wasn't great. Not bad, but come for the beer. Didn't have much seasoning, but the portions were generous.
Service was pretty slow, but at least very friendly.
I need to go back and try again when their beer is ready, but you really can't beat hanging out on the patio.
Brunch on Sundays is awesome. Â Custom omelets, breakfast buffet, affordable (and tasty) mimosas. Â They also have bluegrass music playing and a live band on the deck. Â I can't say the service was that awesome, but the food and ambiance were pretty darn good. Â It's hard to find good service in this town, though, since everyone that's here is in high school or can't live in Austin so they live and work in Bastrop, but that aside, it's a good place and we will be back quite frequently for Sunday brunch.
Review Source:Well this place has personality and then some! It has a great feel to it. There are various decks around the building that allow for a view of the river as well as a view of the areas where the live music is playing. They host various things during the week like trivia night, washers and dart leagues, they have a gorgeous brunch on Sundays with some nice bluegrass bands playing that aren't too loud so you can still have a conversation.
The menu is promising but it seems they're having some growing pains with the food & service but it was all pretty tasty. However, it wasn't as exciting as it sounded on the menu. They aren't officially open yet so, I'm confident by the time they open the service will improve and the food will be great.
We've been there several times and had:
Ceviche - good but needed to marinate a little longer as it was still a bit mushy
Guacamole - delicious but, they put it on a bed of iceberg lettuce to make it look like you got more. That gets pretty irritating when you get to the bottom and you can't get to the rest of your dip because it fell through the lettuce. We asked for salsa and it came out more like stewed tomatoes than salsa but on another day, I saw it on another persons table and it looked delicious so I'll have to try that again and I'll ask for them to skip the iceberg filler at the bottom of the guacamole.
Watermelon and mint salad - Just about the best thing I've ever put in my mouth!
Grilled cheese with arugula - This was very good but a little one note. It could've benefited from a couple of different cheese mixed in or even a smoked cheese to give it that gourmet taste.
Onion rings - We've had these twice as the 1st time they were soggy but the second time they were crisp and delicious. The batter could use a little more beer flavor but that's only if I HAD to find something to pick at it about.
Fish n chips - A little lacking but, Â we're not big fried food people so I'm not sure it was what we were looking for. So in all fairness, I'm not sure we were the best to comment on this one. Go try it and let us know what you think.
Mac and cheese - This was WAY overcooked and the noodles were clumped together. The menu said it was baked but it was clear, this was not a baked dish. Which is so terribly sad because a baked mac-n-cheese with the lovely cheese crust on top is just so decadent.
Pretzel with cheese dip and mustard - This would've been perfect had it had some course salt on top. It was so very close to perfection!
Our friend had the pulled pork sandwich and he said it was "okay". He said he would try it again when they officially opened.
In my opinion, the service could be this places kiss of death. If they can get their waitstaff better trained, I think they will be amazing but, right now the only thing consistent about it has been bad service. They're not rude at all. In fact, they're all very kind but one day we waited an hour for our lunch etc. So just go and try it but, be prepared to wait a little for the food/service to get you what you need.
