Having friends visiting from out of town, i thought Bayport might be a great idea. WRONG.
Two of our party ordered the prime rib special, medium rare. When it arrived, it was so rare I honestly thought they forgot to cook it, AT ALL. I'm not exaggerating.
My friend's prime rib could not be cut into for some reason. I could not help but laugh when he bent his fork several times using that much force trying to cut into it.
After sending the meat back, the waitress returned to say that she was informed by the cook that the reason why he could not cut into it was because it was so rare. (Whaaat??) None the less, my friend agreed to try the meat again after having it cooked further.
Interesting thing happened just after the meat went back to the kitchen.... The cook came out, made a round of the dining area, all the while gunning looks at our table. The cook didn't seem to have a purpose of entering the dining area, he just stared at our table while literally doing a circle around the dining room and then returned to the kitchen. Creepy!!!
When the meat came back, it was well done. No pink whatsoever.
My friend tried to be gracious and eat the prime rib but just could not do it.
The bill arrives and there it is on the bill!!
When we asked to have it removed, the waitress said she would comp us a piece of cheesecake, which she brought to the table. All of us declined and requested again to have the one prime rib removed.
She finally returned and said that she had it removed. The way she was acting and the time it took to return to us, I suspect it took some convincing on her part.
I have to admit, I was extremely disappointed with the whole experience.
Our experience was the same as other posters have stated. Every interaction with the waitress was far and few between. If you wanted or needed anything, you had to wait much longer then one would normally expect. Even in a busy environment.
I did go straight to their website to share my experience with them directly so as they may have an opportunity to be aware of what happened, but, not only can you not leave a comment anywhere on their page, but they have no available email address.
Interesting.
Went here for Mother's day. Gotta say they have let me down. The advertised 1/2 pound burger was  lucky to have weighed in at 1/3 pound. Our waitress was also serving tables outside, which from where we sat was on the other side of the entire restaurant. Needless to say service was very slow. Yes they were packed, but had the waitresses stayed in a general area things would have been faster. The greek salad was again awesome. That burger was a joke though. Oh yeah, I almost forgot the worst thing. They have scabbed onto this building so much that there is not enough parking for the amount of people that can fit inside the restaurant. People were parked on the side of the road where signs say "No Parking". I was surprised to see the dusty, dirt lot was at capacity. It was also not hard to tell they have really cut back on the portions here. Don't know if I will return, you can get more for your money elswhere and not have to drive as far.
Review Source:If I could give ZERO stars I would. Â I have family that lives in this area, while I reside in Los Angeles. Â Every trip I've made over the past 3 years, I've made it a point to come for the seafood & the view from the deck. However, after this trip, I will never, ever return.
It was Sunday at about sunset. The place was busy but not enough to warrant waiting 15 mins before our waitress came. She did apologize  but never gave us her name. She took our drink orders & then we waited another 10 mins for her return.  We both ordered specials which were $20 for scallop dish & $24 for my grouper. Â
The salad & the bread was good, my friend wasn't thrilled with his clam chowder soup. Â And then came the entrees. I took 1 bite of mine & then a second to discover, to my horror, a long strand of cooked hair. Â It had sauce on it, etc. I then started moving the fish around & found more hair. Completely revolted & therefore unable to eat!
It took awhile to flag the waitress down again & I showed her the fish coiffure. Â She offered to get me another fish but by then I was nauseous & declined. I finished my beer & waited for my friend to finish eating. He was pretty sick to his stomach as well. The bill came & while the cost of the hairy fish dish was removed, I was still charged for the beer. I asked the waitress as a sign of good will to remove the beer. She informed me that they had comped the fish from the bill. (Isn't that great customer service!) So I asked for the manager.
The manager was abrasive & offensive. She was not apologetic in the least. She said no one in the kitchen had hair like that. She also suggested that it may have blown from another table. Â I told her it was under the fish & had been cooked, I said then you're not washing your plates very well. Â i requested her name & she declined. & walked off while I was still speaking. Â The exchange was longer & more distressing & offensive then this, but you get the point; no apology, no offer of compensation & total rudeness.
All I can say is BEWARE!!! Â I believe my next review about them will be with the Pasco board of health.
Such a delightful experience! We got two delicious grouper sandwiches and icy cold beers. Grouper was phenomenal- its not on the menu but you can order it! We sat outside on the deck with the most quaint and peaceful view. All servers and bartenders were very nice and accommodating. A true gem of a restaurant!
Review Source:First time eating at Bayport Inn. Was a little weary after reading some of the reviews but decided to experience it first hand. I must say, I'm so glad we did. From the moment we walked in, to the moment we left...all aspects of our dinner was exceptional! Becky was our server and she was as sweet as could be. The food was sooooo hot and yummy, as well as tasting fresh! A very down home feel and would most definitely go back again!
Review Source:Haven't been here in several years due to decline in quality. Â Decided to go this past Friday for dinner, let me just say boy was that a mistake - quality has not improved it has actually declined, had the scallop dinner and it was just horrible and i forgot to mention overpriced $22 I would have been better off buying and cooking my own. Â Won't be returning anytime soon.
Review Source:I have enjoyed this place for years, and it was a personal favorite of My grandfather. They always made him feel welcome and gave him exceptional service. In his later years, when his faculties were slipping away they were still very friendly and accommodating to his needs and understood his distempered nature. i have fond and valued memories in this establishment, and look forward to each and every visit here. I only wish My grandfather was still around to continue enjoying this inviting and delicious place. ***** KUDOS
Review Source:Wow I wish I could give ZERO stars or LESS?
Worse ever...here goes (eat there about a week ago)
Arrived and was seated quickly (a bit dark, but I like that). It much like a biker bar, which I'm OK with it since I ride a motorcycle. I was told the food was good...
After about 15 mins, we were asked if we were ready to order...I stated we'd like to look at the menu first...All down hill after that.
Ordered a Seafood Soup & Crab Stuffed Flounder since I was under the impression the food was great. I've eaten at places like this before and enjoyed a wonderful experience. This time, not so much.
The soup was hot (temp) and spicy as stated, but tasted like it came from a can rather then made locally.
The Flounder didn't flake like flounder should. You needed to stick a fork in it and pull hard. The stuffing was even worse, was listed as a crab stuffing. I never saw anything that looked like a piece of crab. It tasted like a chewy thanksgiving stuffing.
Believe it or not, both the Flounder and the Stuffing had the same consistency so you really couldn't tell the difference between them. Both lack a seafood taste.
Of-course I only ate a small portion and sent the rest back. I guess that was not unusual, since no-one there seemed to care or say anything. Yes I gave them the same comments hoping the chief might take it seriously. I feel it's only fair to them know I was displeased.
BayPort Inn "might" be OK for a burger, but I won't spend more the that.
Normally, I'd go back and try something else. Sometime they have an off-day. Bayport Inn will be an exception to this rule....never again.
BTW: From what I heard about the food being so good, I planned to take the wife there for Mothers-day...Thank God I went there first or I'd end up divorced.
Eat at Bayport at you own risk. You've been warned.
We visited this restaurant on a Monday night for their 2 seafood dinners for $20. Â The food was very good, but we were waiting for almost two hours before our dinner was served. Â It was crowded when we arrived, but even when the placed cleared up, the couple that came in after us, was also patiently waiting, and waiting. Â The waitress was apologizing, but we got the feeling this was not unusual. Â So NOT WORTH THE WAIT.
Review Source:Another excellent meal at Bayport. As far as decor goes this place is a dive but clean, the food is always good as is the service and it's ALWAYS busy even though they are out in the middle of NOWHERE! That says it all. Never mind all that location location location nonsense. Give us good food, good service for a good price and do it regularly and you'll regularly pack em in.
This time we went for their Monday 2 for $19.95 menu. Both Hubby and I ordered the broiled seafood platter... mine blackened. The rest of the gang all ordered the same seafood combo but fried and it's not all greasy and covered in breading. The meals come with a soup or salad and a bunch of different choices for sides. I always ALWAYS must MUST get the New England Clam Chowder. Not only is it creamy and not all floury and pasty but it is like SILKY creamy. YUM is all I can say.
We were a party of 6 regular customers and at the end of the meal we were all groaning from eating too much but agreed it was still another good meal at Bayport. We're all talking about when we're going for the Prime Rib Thursday special. SOON I hope!
By the way.. I say this place is out in the middle of nowhere but actually if you're a boater it is close to Bayport Boat Launch and park. I've launched my kayak there many times. No charge for parking unless you have a boat trailer. Also a nice little park to hang out right on the Gulf. Bayport Restaurant is also near Pine Island Beach! You need to put this restaurant in your bookmarks, go hang out at the beach or go boating and make it a nice day trip.
The Bayport Inn simply has great food! Â Their cod in a basket (not confused with all you can eat fish) is great and I've never had anything better. My friends have always loved what they've ordered, also.
The outdoor eating scenery is Florida wonderful, with marsh grasses as far as the eye can see, and a stray alligator usually gathering around in the lower water area. Â Don't worry as he can't get to you. They have an inside and outside bar.
I was always hesitant on visiting the Bayport Inn as I've always seen so many motorcycles outside. Â I thought it was a biker's bar but know better, now. Â It's fine eating, and nothing else.
I haven't been there in a few months but will have to get there now that the weather is a bit cooler. (note, on the warmest days it's always cooler there.)
We like to go on the weekend for the outdoor entertainment (hopefully they still have that). Â They have a website named
<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fbayportinrestaurant.com&s=d18e3467015a7dce01a8e8f029465f0a50573d08df3dea8f6e98311d06f09c59" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://bayportinrestaura…</a>.
I LOVE this place. Â My family moved to Florida from Chicago many years ago. Â We passed by this place for years. Maybe all of the motorcycles gave us pause. Â ;) One day, we finally decided to eat there. Â Boy, am I glad we did! Â It has become a family favorite. Â We always get the fish basket (not grouper...delicious cod). Â The place definitely has character...and characters! Â There's a good mix of young & old - professional & blue collar - family & singles - eaters & drinkers. Â People-watching is a must! Â Super casual. Â Eat inside or out. Â
Suzanne is an outstanding bartender!
Oysters, ick. BUT Wings were off the chain!!! So good, my nasty oysters seem like a distant memory.
Its a old place with fish photos, stuffed fish, and fishy themes throughout. Â Who can beat All You Can Eat Catfish for 9.99?
Dont go looking for gourmet, but if you want old Florida, this is the place.
I had read the reviews of fellow Yelpers about this place and being ready to try something different like Gator went with friends. Was gonna try the all you can eat fish fry and let the gator wait but when I saw how good the fried flounder looked and the huge portions, I had to have it. It was the best flounder I have had in a long time. My friends had the prime rib special and raved about it!! My other friend did the broiled flounder and was raving too. Baked potatoes were piping hot. I had soup..NE Clam chowder rather that salad. Everything was perfect. This place is big and you could bring a group! Nice outside bar....very gator themed :) I will be back to try that gator tail!! I will add pics I took later :)
Review Source:This real Florida. Â
There's Gore Florida and Bush Florida, as the debacle 2000 confirmed. Â Gore Florida seems a million miles away from the Bayport Inn, a down-home biker bar/inn/restaurant along the Gulph Coast. Â You want to sit on the back deck which overlooks the tall marshland grass and is ringed with signs suggesting you refrain from feeding the alligators or letting your children sit on the railing above the water. Â
Order the fried oysters ($14.95) and you'll have your choice of soup or salad. Â I would suggest the soup unless your idea of a salad is a plate of iceberg with onions. Â The oysters are globular balls of heaven which you will dip in a pile of tartar sauce recently evacuated from a plastic squeeze bottle onto your plate. Â They're perfect.
The authenticity of the Bayport Inn draws a hearty crowd of white folk in Budweiser t-shirts, some of whom pulled up on Harleys which you can hear rumbling outside. Â Nary a foreign car in the parking lot, save for the tourists. Â
Watch the sunset from the deck and perhaps you'll get a gator visit. Â And as you finish off a beer or two, you'll slip nicely into the calming blend of sun, cackling laughter from the bar, and buzzing crickets from the marsh. Â Just don't ask for balsamic unless you fancy a Florida funny look.
This is laid back Florida at it's best.  I knew it was love the first time I dined here.  It seemed to be the only outdoor restaurant in the entire Tampa area that would allow my little Maltese, Polo, entry.  It's a casual waterfront bar and grill with signs all over the property warning about stray alligators.  They have a huge deck if you want your meal  alfresco.  The service is great and the menu has a nice variety.  I had the fish special, as always. Very tasty with such huge portions you will have plenty left over to feed those stray alligators ; )  That is- if you're lucky enough to see one.
