Here's the deal... I live in Arlington VA, and we have Rockland's BBQ which is really good. I've spent time in Birmingham AL, where Saw's BBQ owns the competition. I spent a year in the Columbus GA area where Country's is most well known. I lived in Fayetteville NC for a year. I've tasted a number of BBQ joints. BBQ House is the deal; especially for those who like spicy BBQ. Add the ambiance, this place is the stuff of legends. If it's accessible in any way, prioritize your life and visit.

It's a funny story how I got to be here, but on a warm dusty Thursday afternoon, I found myself eating....a turkey sandwich... I'm not going to give any rave reviews for that, but that's what I ordered since I don't really eat pork. I know i know. It's a BBQ place, but I thought there would be chicken too. Not so. I tried a bite of the bbq sandwich though and it was tasty. Maybe not quite as tasty as Pig N Chick, but from what I hear, decent for this area of the state.

What I mostly enjoyed is the atmosphere. Join the Alabamans and army folk from the Forts and you walk right into a rural bbq joint you couldn't make up if you tried. There was a giant american flag on one wall and a portrait of a dog with a gun and some prey on another. Nice people, good family joint, and simple picnic tables to give you a real sense of a picnic. If you live near here, there aren't a ton of other options so step up on that porch, walk in, and bite into some pork!

Fort Mitchell BBQ House has the greatest tasting BBQ sauce, cole slaw, and sweet tea in the world. I usually get the Pilot plate with the pork, slaw, beans, extra sauce, and the biggest sweet tea possible. The Ranger Plate comes with ribs additionally instead of substituted. Their sandwiches are phenomenal and their prices can't be beat. The drive to Fort Mitchell can be distant, but is absolutely worth it to taste that spectacular BBQ sauce.

Open for lunch only, this place is a favorite of soldiers. You can call ahead and pick up massive orders for the drop zone or pop in for lunch with colleagues. The food is top notch quality. You will enjoy it. Standard fare, ribs, chopped pork, etc. but oh so good. I particularly enjoy their coleslaw and homemade sauces.
