Nice bar, good cider, but above all we were really happy to find a place in such a convenient location that could host a group on a Friday evening at 8pm. We had never been here before, and picked it based on Yelp reviews. When we stopped by in the afternoon they immediately offered to reserve us a table, and once we showed up with 10 people, they added more tables. Around the time we left (10pm) the place started getting busier, but it was perfect for a group of friends at 8pm!
We didn't eat anything here, but one of our friends said he highly recommends the clam chowder, supposedly it's the best in town!
Florence has their own little old town down by the bay, on Bay St. no less. Â I liked the view this restaurant had, overlooking boats, and lots of tables with umbrellas. I felt melancholy about summer so we went on inside. We chose a seat looking out at the boats and the outside benches covered with rainwater.
The menu is huge and so is the space. I was not that hungry and ordered their avocado stuffed with shrimp. I had a choice of Louie style or shrimp ceviche and I chose the latter. I expected it to come out scooped into a half avocado but they made it all pretty and layered it instead.
I also ordered their homemade bloody mary which was very delicious, not to mention strong.
Next time I come here though I plan on being on the outside with the sun shining looking in.
We arrived in Florence about 9 am on a Sunday. In Old Town nearly all the restaurants were closed; so, though the wife said, I don't want to eat in a bar (the outside doesn't look so great), I said we don't have much choice unless we drive elsewhere in town and their are a lot of people in there.
My wife was happy with the bagel and fruit light breakfast. I ordered eggs and hash browns plus sourdough toast with the hope the potatoes would be eatable since the menu stated "yukon potatoes" so they might be made in-house. Â The hash browns were great (not hard-crunchy-burned) and the sourdough bread was sour and chewy--as it should be.
Locals bar...at least that's what the local standing out front smoking told us. And it was a noisy locals bar. But the service was friendly and the food solid and cheap (as you hope for in a locals place). I had a bacon wrapped 6oz fillet with prawns for $16.95! And it was pretty decent!
Review Source:Fun atmosphere, friendly staff. Â Will definitely return. Â They have a great selection of beers on tap with many local breweries represented. Â They also have a fridge with many additional bottled selections, again including many local brews. Â We had hot wings and a bison burger and both were delicious pub fare. Â Highly recommend!
Review Source:Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name.... Â
Even if you're on vacation. And that's what we got at the Beachcombers Pub and Grill. Well, the waitress didn't know MY name, but she knew everyone else's name. This definitely seemed like a local hangout. And my camera-toting, sunscreen-wearing, goofy-smiling self sat down among a bunch of local bikers and felt perfectly at home.
Great beer selection. Casual atmosphere (duh - it IS a pub). Excellent, attentive service. The food was pretty good, too. My hubby liked his fish-n-chips and my shrimp sandwich was good. I'm not an expert on chowder (I'm a Texan after all) but I definitely enjoyed the chowder here. ("chow-deR"? or "chow-dah"? Â In east Texas we'd just say "that there soup with all kinds of ditch critters in it")
Thanks, Yelpers, for helping me find this place!
I love the Comber! Â Super delicious food, friendly staff, and a definite "local" hangout. Â If you are looking for a fun time, go to the Comber for their trivia night.....usually on Wednesdays. Â Also, their "Steak Night" is to die for. Â Delicious meal for a low price. Â Can't say enough good words about the Beachcomber!! Go!!!
Review Source:Friendly, welcoming and warm. Â The food is good, I guess pub grub and the portions are huge. Â Sweet potato fries as good as the south. Â Large chunks of hand-cut, lightly breaded and fried fish. Â Delicious homemade tortellini soup and real slow-roasted, moist turkey breast on the turkey sandwich. Â Yum.
Review Source:Delicious food & drinks. Bf visits this area couple times a year and gets fish n chips, Bison burger is a definite must for everyone to try, SO Delicious! Â Good prices for the food, didnt smell anything strange as former reviewer "Jason b." did. Service was really friendly and answered all our questions.
Review Source:Low end bar with tv's and a pool table. Â Not a bad place for a beer and to watch a game except there is something rotting in the carpet at the far end of the bar. Â The weird thing is they've known about the odor problem for quite some time now but they don't fix it. Â Not a priority I guess.
I can tell you this, a restaurant that doesn't care how it smells is a serious concern for me about how clean their kitchen is. Â We will not be back based on this alone.
Absolutely adore the salty crew that frequents this place! I came here with my friend Dante for some a couple beers and sight seeing of the coasties. I have never seen so many overalls in one place in my life!
The bartenders (I think they are husband and wife) are amazing and incredibly friendly. They loved entering our conversation and random times, but it didn't feel intrusive at all.
They have a pretty decent selection of brews and really good food. The fish tacos were huge and way too much for me to finish!
Watch out for the hot sauces that they put in front of you. I ended dumping way too much scorned woman on my tacos and they had to give me a pint of milk so my mouth would stop sweating!
They've got nice tv's, the ever present jukebox, pool, and some video lottery. Great place to come when you're at the coast.
Super friendly staff... Good atmosphere... Great beer selection, with 20 different varieties on tap. Â But without any happy hour food (or GOOD beer) specials, and the chicken strips we did order could have been from McDonalds... A place we really wanted to like was only mediocre.
I do have to say that others seemed to like their meals, and we'll be back to try something else.
The Beachcomber has nice selection of beer and decent food. The staffing was pretty short when I was there, one guy trying to help 20 people was a little ridiculous, but I guess it was a Wednesday night in Florence so you can't expect the bars to predict a large crowd.
The comber is the only place that's likely to be happening in Florence and sometimes draws a younger crowd. If you're looking for a place to shoot the ish, I'd recommend it.
As you can see, other yelpers agree.
If you need to find a place to get a beer (with a great selection of stuff in bottles or on tap) in Florence, then Beachcombers is the place to go. Â Not just did I try the Dead Man's Ale on tap, which is amazing, but I also bought a bunch of beers to bring back to Cali for friends and family. Â The Red Chair Ale was very tasty with a very distinct flavor and highly recommended.
Review Source:We checked every place out on Yelp before dining on this vacation and with one positive under its belt, we were heading to the Beachcomber. Once again, we were not steered wrong.
Huge beer list, nice wine list, extensive menu of apps, burgers, mexican dishes, and general pub fare. I had the grilled cod taco and a side caesar while Chris had a Pecos Chicken sandwich. Chris had the Pyramid Hefeweisen and I had an Oregon Riesling. Food was delicious, service was friendly, crowd was festive and friendly. I would hit this place again over Mo's even (and I'm a big Mo's fan) and definitely over ICM.
I definitely enjoyed my visit to the Beachcomber! Black Butte Porter on tap in a frosty pint glass (or five!). Delicious burgers and sides and a prime rib, grilled mushrooms, baked potato, salad special is about all it takes for me! The crowd was a mix of young and old locals and "tourists", all seeming to enjoy themselves.
A great selection of microbrews and a full bar. Sports on multiple TVs.
