Let me preface this by saying what a java snob I am. This place gets 5 stars for friendliness, 3 stars for service and 1 star for coffee quality. I got a latte that was basically coffee-flavored water with warm milk....no foam/froth whatsoever. I think they should also put the "date roasted" on their beans...but maybe I missed it. Still....my mistake for paying almost $5 for a less-than-average coffee drink.
Review Source:I have discovered my new hotspot for coffee! This place makes coffee the proper way. They are also what I consider a true coffee house....they sell their own brand and offer a warm and inviting atmosphere to sit and relax. Â The baristas are very knowledgeable and make a mean vanilla lattee (my wife has to have seconds)
Review Source:I was in Thousand Oaks running errands a couple weeks ago and wanted coffee. I didn't want to do the usual Starbucks or Coffee Bean and as much as I love the coffee at Nordstroms, I didnt want to deal with mall traffic on a weekend afternoon. Â I yelp searched and this spot popped up so I decided to check it out. I won't return. When I arrived there was a young girl making a coffee and a woman waiting for her coffees talking to an older man that may have been a manager or owner. He was giving her coupons for free coffee thanking her for being a repeat customer. I stood for a few minutes waiting and wasn't even acknowledged. Not even a "we will be right with you" Nope. The woman got her coffees and the man walked away. I told the girl I had never been here before if she had any recommendations - she didnt. Hmm ok. So I ordered an ice blended coffee. It was ok. It was more ice than anything else. It wasn't awful but the lack of customer service was enough for me to not return. Maybe Im spoiled by Starbucks employees always being so cheerful helpful. I won't waste my time or money here again.
Review Source:Used to come here back in the day when coffee shops were few and far between. When the only competition would be the Gloria Jeans in the old Oaks Mall, before Starbucks made its move to this nice little town. What I liked was the local feel....the baristas knowing what you wanted before you wanted it. They would see me coming and know what I wanted.
They have a roaster here, which means fresh roasted beans, They used to have a roaster named Randy I think, he was the only one other than the owner who could touch the machine. Skye was the Barista back then.
They always had a great selection of pastries. My choice was always a everything bagel with cream cheese, toasted.
Really happy this place is still around after all these years!!
Located in an older strip mall is this small coffee shop that sells beans that they roast. Â The barista that helped me was very friendly. Â The first thing I noticed walking in was how amazing it smelled. They have coffees, teas, pastries, and free wifi. They also sell wines as well. Â This is not a fancy coffee shop. Â It is simple and no-frills, and I like supporting small businesses. Â I stopped in to kill time before heading to a Yelp Elite event.
Review Source:Overall, it's a disappointment for a coffee hound like me. The three coffees that I tried (purchased as whole bean and fresh-roasted) didn't reflect special freshness or especially well-roasted  or well-selected green bean character. However, the blended coffee drinks, expresso-based drinks and atmosphere are all better, even acceptably good. Probably a better place for the casual coffee and snack seeker than for someone seeking great coffee.
Review Source:I didn't realize I had not reviewed Bean Crazy recently. Â Today I met Steve, the owner. Â Still one of my favorite places to meet my business associates, and I am excited it is growing in popularity among business types like me. Â Good coffee, muffins, and they even have some vegan cookies. Â Now this is my kind of place.
Review Source:Coffee is good, so I stop in when I can, But what's most important to me is a friendly face and excellent customer service, and I have been served by a couple of nice baristas here, but none were exactly "friendly" I did like Brigit, but have only seen her once. There is another hippie chick who I also thought was a good ambassador for their brand, but she was not there today. Today there was a vertically challenged girl, who did not leave a good impression...and a new face who is really a total hottie! I mean like NO KIDDING! But she wasn't very friendly either. What ever happened to a SMILE? Hello...if I'm starting my day with a 5 dollar coffee it shouldn't seem like a chore to serve it up. :)
Review Source:Great, great coffee. Probably the best mocha, ever. The staff are always knowledgable and friendly. Nina is super-dependable, especially, to make the perfect coffee every time.
Decor is outdated. Tables are old and sticky. The tired coffee bean bags on the wall need to go. So... I would give my local coffee resturant a 5 star review if the owner would take a little time and effort to revamp the shabby interior. You already have great service and coffee. Just step up one more level with the place and you are golden!
When I first came across this coffee house I was in heaven. It was under different ownership and the staff was knowledgeable and great at making coffee. We would look forward to our visit every time. However recently there has been ownership change. The last two times we visited  there were new baristas  who were incompetent at Best! I would frequently order Yerba matte, and now the baristas don't even know what it is!  We  couldn't even  finish the drinks we ordered. They  were too sweet, luke warm and the presentation was horrible, drips down the side of the mug, messy top the whole experience was not worth the money. The barista forgot we wanted mugs and put the drink in Styrofoam, then just dumped the drink into a mug. We travel out of the way  to find independent coffee houses because of the originality and knowledge of good baristas.  It's sad for me to write this as I see a good coffee house going bad. We will not be traveling out of the way for this one anymore. Now the travel to coffee house is Element Coffee in Camarillo.
Review Source:An extra star for wonderful service. They are extremely friendly and helpful, clearly local owners and engaged staff in every way.
This is the only local roaster in TO, and that's very much to their credit. And the place is cute as can be.
So the 3 stars on coffee delivery are this... Admittedly, I'm still not getting amazing beans from them (good, but not great) after a few tries. My expectations of "local roasting" may be too high, but I keep expecting them to blow me away and it isn't happening. Good, solid, but not rocked in my socks yet.
Also, and this is a greedy comment, some of the further-out ranges that they note that they offer in the front counter are almost never available. In all fairness, I'm probably the only customer asking... but then maybe don't post them up as options.
For beans or a basic cup, again, GREAT staff, good prices, and good coffee.
Hmmmm this is an interesting place for sure.
I like the feel of the cafe, especially love all the guitars hanging on the wall. The girl working there was really friendly and nice. But...I can't believe I have to say it....the coffee is not good.
OK, I could be biased. 1) I am never a coffee person. So far I only like the coffee from Urth cafe. 2) I tried their special of the day, raspberry mocha, it was a risky move and I should take some responsibility for that too. But come on, it was just hot chocolate with raspberry syrup. My friend ordered ginger vanilla coffee, she wasn't impressed neither.
Again, the girl was really nice and she did offer to serve us something else if we didnt like the one we ordered. But we felt bad to tell her the truth (but now here i am, writing this review that she might read eventually, lol).
I might actually go and order something else just to see if that was just a bad luck.
Being it was my first visit here, I had high expectations! Especially after reading all the good comments about this little shop. My experience did not meet my expectations.....
Don't get me wrong, the coffee tasted fresh as it should(it's pressed in front of you), however, my GF's was LAVA. I was more than half done by the time she could touch the coffee to her lips(she definitely burned her tongue, but she went for it... Â :)
I also wasn't too impressed with the seating inside. Now it's not like you
need Wi-fi and a massive mural painted on the wall, but the few chairs and tables that are in there don't give the shop a warm vibe. Compared to BeanScene in Agoura, which has the warmest vibe going inside, Bean Crazy felt a bit outdated.
Don't take that too hard however, as the aesthetics of a shop/restaurant should not deter one from going there. I will surely be back because you guys had some very interesting drinks! I also must say the girl working was happy and smiling, which is always nice.
They also have a smaller but interesting selection of wines and beer! Another nice touch was the write ups they have on display explaining the coffees and where they came from. Nice to read over while waiting for my coffee!
3.5/5 Stars.
Thanks again, I'll be back again soon!
Not too shabby for my first encounter. Surprisingly I haven't been here, all the 20+ years I have lived here! What's wrong with me?!
But overall, it has been a good experience. I liked the options which they had more. I had the mocha mint latte, could have used a bit more MINT please, but definitely loved the mocha taste, not burnt, a absolute plus! The prices aren't too bad, it was about the same prices of my Starbucks, maybe a bit less expensive. Granted Starbucks allows me to use my gift card and get free soy, which I need being lactose!
But I like the plently of parking that is around, the inside has a great charm to it, some seating inside and out. But it makes me feel like a real coffee shop and not a cold feeling that I get when I do step into a Starbucks.
Please, hint hint my independent coffee shops, get a Agave Latte! I only know of one in Camarillo and then Santa Barbara. Or if anyone knows of another place, please share!
I hope to return soon!
Been there a couple times - not near my hood but when I'm over at Janss and need a cup.... Â Most times the coffee's fine, today it was the worst cup of coffee I've ever had. Â It tasted of soap. Â By the time I realized it was awful I was on the 101 and gone. Â I was not the only person with the soapy coffee. Â It could be the coffee, the cup, the cream but it was horrible.
Review Source:I agree with Kay D. that the coffee is fresh and tastes fresh. The iced mocha I enjoyed burst with flavor that was strong but not bitter. Although I did not have a pastry the goodies in the glass case looked tasty. The shop is quite tidy and the decor is quaint. A bit narrow for my liking but it was tolerable. Probably a place I wouldn't bring my laptop and study at though.
I think the biggest deterrent I have about Bean Crazy Coffee is the location. Although parking is ample, the shopping center is in an odd location. Hillcrest is a busy street but if it weren't for the this coffee shop and the Goodwill I would probably never stop in this center. The Oaks mall and the Jann's Shopping center are so close I'm not sure I'd make a special stop here.
I will be returning however because I like to support small businesses. Hopefully Bean Crazy can establish a strong customer base and in the future consider moving to a bigger and better location.
Okay, Okay. Â This place is good. Â Their coffee is fresh roasted everyday, and is the ONLY place in the area that does so. Â Their coffee is great! Â A little too great.... Â I'm hooked.
The only thing I don't like is the ambiance. Â It's way too small and makes me want to leave. Â I like my coffee shops to be cozy and comfortable, not crammed. Â This problem is the only thing keeping me from a five star rating.
The lattes are good (my fave was the vanilla ginger latte), and the coffee is fantastic (I especially like the Wildwood roast). Â I will only buy my beans here. Â Give them more business so they can move to a better location!
The quality of the coffee is really unparalled in the TO area. Freshly roasted beans every week, the freshly grind the espresso for your order, and craft their drinks expertly. The baristas are casual, fun, and definitely not coffee snobs. They know their stuff.
I had a latte this morning. Smooth as silk.
I always look forward to coming here for a great cup of coffee. Every type of blend and roast that I've tried, I have loved. So much so, that when I'm down to the last sip, I always wish I ordered a large, and not my usual medium. It's perfect.
This is Todd O reporting live from Bent on Coffee in Thousand Oaks (+1 star for free wi-fi). Â As I am always a fan of hole in the wall coffee shops, I'm already a fan of Bent. Â Yelper Michael S recommended the Ethiopian on a cool cloudy day (like today), but unfortunately, it was unavailable. Â They have 6 coffees of the day, and the barista recommended the Ambrosia. Â From the little I recall from Greek mythology, ambrosia is the nectar of the gods...they're claiming this coffee is appropriate for coffee gods, like myself (soooo just kidding).
Anyway, Ambrosia was very smooth, and I'm not sure if I could taste a hint of fruit (potentially the "nectar"). Â With such a variety of flavors (looks like they have 25+ different blends to try), I'll have to come back. Â
Seating is limited to about 12 indoors (6 tables), and another 2-3 tables outdoors. Â Can't find any outlets for my laptop, but thankfully my battery is fully charged. Â They're also jamming reggae music via Pandora in the background, which the Hawaii-born side of me can really appreciate. Â
Oh...and they have quite an extensive collection of wines from around the world to check out in the back of the shop.
OK place I visited a few times. Nice music. The staff serving the coffee are pleasant, but detached... They're often chatting to each other or looking vaguely everywhere as you stand at the counter. I got a pastry and drink, paid and left a dollar tip but forgot the pastry. She didn't give me a shout even though it was on the counter in front of her hands. When I went back in she was staring thoughtfully at the pastry, possibly to determine its provenance (the place has wine too).
Just a part of the atmosphere you won't find at Starbucks! Woo-hoo!
Finally tried this place, after months of vowing to go.
They have a great list of coffees on the Daily Specials list. I tried the chocolate macadamia coffee, and it was perfect- dark and nutty but also the right amount of sweet.
Seemed like the baked goods were a little over-priced, but I got the raspberry almond bar anyways. and oh man, its yummy.
I wanted to sit in and read a little, but the atmosphere was a bit awkward... there was an employee, or someone in connection with the shop just sitting and talking to the barista.. just kinda felt weird and didn't want to stay to drink and read. Isn't this part of the coffee shop experience?
This would be a three star review but this might literally be one of the only small coffee shop within reasonable distance of the mall which provides me refuge when my companions seek to shop. So that is a bonus
The Bad: Seating is craped. Mostly just two person tables. Few outlets if any. Not much seating in general.
The Good: Cute baristas. Free-wifi. Good coffee.
I keep reviewing coffee shops while I'm in them!
But when there's free wi-fi and I've got an hour before I have to show up at a work appointment what else am I going to do but yelp?!!
This place isn't as cozy feeling as Conejo coffee...but they make English tea the right darn way. Or well, the way that my English mother says 'is the right way'. Basically tea bag in cup, add boiling water and done. Thank you for letting me add my own milk at the milk/sugar bar thing. I hate it when places add the milk for me before the tea has properly steeped! ALSO, $1.50...that's it. Thank you thank you, for not over charging me for my purchase of a tea bag. So 5 stars directly for the two most important elements of a coffee place to me, since I don't drink coffee.
The place it's self has a gigantic roaster coffee grinder machine in the front window, that I'm assuming actually gets used since when I walked in I felt like I fell in a bag of coffee beans. Also, looking up above my head there's a framed advertisement stating "The only local local independent coffeehouse...where you coffee is roasted fresh daily on the premises'. I love coffee smell, so I'm quite happy sitting here sipping at my tea.
The back wall is floor to ceiling wine racks. They have a lot of coffee options here, beans in display boxes, and a wee pastry case, they can even toast a bagel for you! There's a cooler with apple juice and Calypso lemonades, and a couple of yogurts. There's places to sit outside, and there are a few tables inside. It hasn't been that busy this morning, in fact it's quite peaceful, even the employees are relaxing and reading the paper!
My only problem, is that they serve the coffee in Styrofoam cups...but that can easily be remedied by bringing your own travel mug.
