We came into town in need of a restaurant that would show the basketball game. Â We where not disappointed, they had a huge screen to watch the game. Â Service was slow and the burgers where decent. Â Bottom line is this place is good if you want to watch a sports event and have some drinks.
Review Source:Go here to drink, not eat.
It's one of the bars in Pagosa that stays open a little later and it's centrally located downtown. They have some really nice servers, others are not great at all and will leave you waiting forever. I recommend ordering through the bar if you can.
They have a huge projector screen for sporting events and some ok drink specials. I have gotten sick every time I eat here so I don't personally recommend the food.
We are visitors, so when we are in Southern Colorado the first thing our adult family wants to eat, is a great burger, topped with green chile and cheese, delicious. Â The saloon also has a large selection of Colorado beer, easy to please, enjoy the patio area, it is a beautiful Fall in Pagosa Springs.
Review Source:At The Springs, we were recommended by a staff that Bear Creek Saloon that is was his favorite place to come for food. So we went on that hunger urge to get some lunch here after a good couple hours of soaking.
When we arrived, we read the history of the restaurant; that it used to be a brothel house. There's a reason why you don't eat at a place that used to be a brothel house. Â It's overpriced and the food is badly overcooked.
Yes, the sandwiches my friends got, had way too many cheeses which made it taste like crap. Plus, my husband's steak dish for $20, was overdone (almost to the edge of burnt). The only thing that taste decent was my fish and chips, which was the 4th choice. What I mean by 4th choice was that the waitress had to come 4 times to notify me that they couldn't make my dish. Â
When we ordered, there were so many things wrong with the quality of the food that we couldn't eat most of it. The waitress was nice, but that is all I can say.
Next time you get a recommendation from a local, be cautious and question it.
I don't even know where to start. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT go there. The food is going down hill, the burger's are burnt and greasy and the service (if you even want to call it that) is bad.
Over the last couple of years it has gotten worse and eating there takes forever! It takes them about 20 min to take your orders - the last 2 times they always forgot to bring at least one and then the waitress insisted we never ordered it, instead of apologizing (and fixing it).
By the time we had eaten, we were still waiting for the missing order and when we said that we don't need it anymore, we got the bad look (as if we would inconvenience her). Then it took forever to get the cheque.
The rest of the day/evening you will feel bad because of all the grease that was in your food.
Maybe 3.51 Stars.
I had last Sunday off in the middle of my Earthwatch Expedition and decided to come to Pagosa Springs for a soak, a nosh, and a little walking around. There wasn't much open on this side of town, but I was happy to have a chance to sit, relax, watch some football, and take advantage of the wi-fi.
The service was very friendly, but kind of slow overall, and to the point that I might have been upset if I was in more of a hurry. I liked the draft beer selection and was pleasantly surprised on how easy the waitress rattled them all off. And it all went very well with my large and tasty Pagosa Burger (cheese, bacon and green chile).
Bear Creek Saloon is within an easy walking distance to the 3 nearby mineral bath spas, and was a decent downtown choice. And I would enjoy coming back, maybe next time on their outdoor patio.
I got violently ill from eating here.
We asked our server what was good and he said everything was "cronic". Huh? Umm I guess that means good...
My boyfriend and I ordered the burgers they are supposedly famous for. They immediatly tasted a little off.
Later that night I got very very sick and so did my boyfriend.
Don't eat here!
the funny thing is that their tagline in the ad said "over-serving people since [...]" sooooo yeah...
we went for a quick dinner. we were greeted and seated right away by a super friendly server who told us the other server would be right with us. fabulous! as we were pretty hungry.
well... maybe 15 minutes later our server showed up. i should mention that the place was by no means busy, nor were we the only ones there, so what was the hold up?
while waiting for our server, we had time to discover that the table was pretty dirty. the whole patio was kind of gritty. in addition, we decided that there was nothing on the menu that we wanted to eat. we tend to avoid greasy, fried, and meat. i should add that we were in town visiting the hot springs. since springs are a health resort and a MAJOR part of this little town, we were expecting to find at least one healthy food option. our mistake, we were at a saloon after all.
we were pretty hungry and knew it would probably be another hour before we would be served at different restaurant, so when our server came we ordered beers and curly spicy fries. just something to tide us over.
our beers came but our fries were MIA, along with our server. after about 45 minutes of listening to ridiculously depressing music on a crappy speaker system, waving away cigarette smoke from the table next to us, and getting really really hungry, we flagged down the only server we could find to tell us the prices of our beers, put down exact change, and left.
do i feel kind of bad about the orphaned curly fry order? well i would if i had any confidence that the order made it into the kitchen at all.
not going back. ever.
This is supposed to have the best burgers in town... blah. My hamburger, the Californian, was dry and tasteless. My husband ordered ribs which they were out of, so he got loaded nachos for $11 which were something a child could make. He took off the peepers and onions which left a 1/4 cup of beans, 1 jalapeno, and maybemaybe 1/2 cup of cheese on a big plate of nachos. Oh yeah there were little bits of chicken in there too.
Our waitress was AWESOME she was busy but veryvery funny and full of personality and made our wait so much more manageable.... she was the best thing at this place.
I'm not feeling the love for Bear Creek Saloon. Â Does that mean I'll never go back? Â No, I am certain I will be back. Â Mostly to see if I can find the 5 star review experience that most of the other reviews talk about. Â
I've been to the Bear twice so far. Â I've had the Green Chile Cheeseburger (Meh, I've had better from the outdoor grill at Wolf Creek), the BBQ nachos (again, I've had better), and the regular nachos with chicken (supposedly the best in town. Â If true, the other nachos in town must be rotten garbage in comparison). Â
Why two stars instead of one? Â Because the service is honest, small town service and the atmosphere of locals interacting with out of towners in an old saloon style location adds a certain charm to the place. Â That and the fact that they have one of those old, indestructible, Ma Bell telephones behind the bar that has the old school, honest to God bell ringer in it made my day. Â I haven't seen one of those in years.
My family of 4 adults tried to have dinner here. Â The place was pretty full, but not packed. Â We seated ourselves, got the menu's ourselves and waited, waited, waited for service. Â The 2 busy waitresses never bothered to great us. Â No water, no drinks, not even an "I'll be right with you", nada. Â We were hungry, so after about 10-15 minutes wait, we left to get dinner somewhere else.
Review Source:One of the best Cuban Sandwiches I've ever had, and I used to live in Homestead, Fl.! What's that you say? You heard me. BEST.
Super big-time portions! I eat a lot and I could barely finish my plate. All 8 of us were satisfied with our food. Â Great fries, great sandwiches, and burgers.
The pool tables and cues weren't all jacked up either (my brother and I played a game while we waited). Â Super friendly waitress, and great service.
Eat here and be prepared for the food coma and sweet dreams of pork, ham, pickle, and mustard.
WOW!!! Â I had an absolutely DELICIOUS cheddar cheeseburger with fries here. Â Washed it down with a couple of Hefeweizens. Â Add the outdoor patio with views of the surrounding mountains and VOILA, you have a memorable meal in lovely Pagosa Springs. Â
I can't wait to ride back here next year!!
Um thank you Bear Creek for giving me the best night in Pagosa...
All nights were fun, but this one was particularly drunky....
It was the OU/FL game on Thursday.. HUGE projector screen to watch it on..
I hear they have awesome karaoke on Wednesdays which i regretfully missed out on..
Pretty much every person I met on the mountain was somehow there..
ergo.. it is amazing, and although like all of Pagosa does NOT stay open until 2am like any respectable bar would do...i refuse to falter from my 5 star rating..
also... there was a girl in there who literally looked like Ugly Betty.. which was cool and amusing.. but she acted like the wicked witch of the west... literally telling someone she'd punch him if he didn't move.. strange..
you'd think that would affect the rating but somehow it just added to the charm of the place.. love it!
