This place seems to be a bright spot in an otherwise sleepy little town that seems to be mainly alive due to their proximity to a ghost town with mines and further off, the giant radio telescopes of the VLA.
The woman running the joint was super nice and coincidentally from across the bay in Oakland.   She knew every other customer by name who walked in the door.  I can't eat wheat, but the biscuits smelled amazing and came with honey butter.  Cowboy Stew (beans, ground meat, green chile, broth and usually cheese) was pretty great and filling.   Wife's quiche looked real good too.  As did all the desserts passing us by.  All the locals had dessert.  That chocolate pecan pie looked amazing.
Maybe not really a 5 star joint, but taking into consideration the size of the town, and how a lot of the food "looked" I'd say its worth the 5.

Most Sundays I'm having the sourdough blueberry waffles at Bear Mountain and I highly recommend them-----bursting with blueberries, served with an individual dollop of butter in a small bowl and accompanied by fresh coffee in a Fiestaware cup they are scrumptious.  Other breakfast menu choices are good as well, but if you're a waffle fan (and maybe even if you aren't yet) these are terrific.

On a recent trip from CA to various places through AZ and New Mexico, We stumbled upon this gem. After leaving Albuquerque, heading south to Socorro where New Mexico Tech is located, and then continuing south on our way back to AZ, we were feeling pretty hungry. We saw the sign out front and really weren't sure what to expect but were pleasantly surprised with homemade broccoli and chicken quiche, sourdough biscuits with honey butter and fruit compote. My boyfriend ordered an Americano coffee drink and I had the latte. We discovered that 2 ladies that worked there were transplants from Northern California. The space is quite large and next door is a gallery/tourist information section. We got great information Hot springs, spas and where we will be visiting on our next trip out to NM! My boyfriend also bought me the cutest pair of earrings, made by someone local, at the gallery!!

    The BEST!
