Bar none, the worst restaurant on Cape Cod or possibly the country at this point.  The Bee Hive used to be the hot spot to go to, the previous owners were friendly and the staff was some of the best around (this was about 7-8 years ago).  When the Bee Hive transitioned to a new owner, he alienated the entire staff and one by one everyone quit, and I mean everyone.  Some people had worked there for 20+ years.

I guess the new guy decided that cutting corners to save money and sacrificing quality was necessary to make money?  He was handed a thriving business with a loyal customer base and managed to completely destroy what once was a great restaurant.  It is a rare occasion to see the parking lot fill up here now a days, and for good reason.  Avoid this place at all costs, there are plenty of good places to eat if your on Cape towards the Town Neck end of Sandwich, another few miles down 6A.  Don't waste your money on the Bee Hive.

Oh by the way, this place has one of the dirtiest kitchens around, I was a former employee many years ago and never ate the food there again after I saw it firsthand.  How people don't get sick is a miracle.

Stopped off on the way home from a vacation on the cape. Service was solid and the food was better than average. The owner was the host and saw to it that we were served quickly as we were in a hurry.
    A good recommendation

We visit the Cape from time to time and always come back to the Bee-Hive. Tonight my wife had duck, which was served crispy with a great sauce. I had the seafood Trilogy, which was delicious. For desert we had fresh, warm gingerbread with vanilla ice cream. A really wonderful meal. The service was excellent. There was a misunderstanding in the order, which was corrected without a problem. The atmosphere was warm and pleasant with some live music that was not intrusive. Recommend.

This place is close to our home in East Sandwich. I really wants to like the place because it is easily walkable from home, but this is possibly the lamest bar I have ever been to - meaning, the bar closes at 9pm, even on a Saturday night during the summer season. The staff is NOT friendly and frequently tries to close the place down early, even when they have paying customers enjoying cocktails. They should remove the word "bar" from their sign outside because I have never been to a bar that closes so early. Between the early closing time, gross/outdated decor, and unwelcoming staff, I won't be stopping by this place again. Drinking at home or driving a bit further down the road is a better bet than the Beehive!!!

Very disappointed in this "bar."  If you like to be in bed early, this is the perfect place for you! The "bar" closes at 9:00 and if you stroll in around 8:45, rather than the employees welcoming you- they promptly tell you they close at 9:00 and expect you to leave. I'm glad we didn't hit traffic and were trying to get a late dinner! Extremely disappointed and will not be frequenting this location during summer on Cape Cod!!!!

This is a staple for us.  The food is delicious and consistent and the prices aren't bad either!  Everything on their menu is wonderful but my fav is the hamburger.... man 'oh man.... this thing has high-quality meat, perfectly flamed broiled and cooked the way you like it!  The atmosphere is "down-home" & "cozy".... it's a good place to meet up with friends or make some new ones!  Fabulous.... just fabulous... !!!

I'm glad my date and I had previously decided that we were looking for a slow going evening as the service was quite sparse. We arrived toward the beginning of their dinner service and waited for quite some time between service points (greeting, seating, beverage order, bread basket, appetizer order, entree order, dessert order), we also had 4 different waiters over the course of the evening. I was pleased to see that they had mead on their beverage menu. We started with the clam and corn fritters which came with a great sauce pairing, and the french onion soup with was on par. The food selection was a combination of British pub and classic Cape Cod seafood fare. Would recommend it for a low key, simple evening out.

Delicious food for an excellent price. Right in the heart of downtown East Sandwich, you get nothing but friendly wait staff and courteous service at this upscale tavern. Overall, very clean and tidy. Would definitely go there again!

Tried the Beehive again after a period of avoiding them since I heard they were under new management.  Was once again very disappointed.  We were one of two parties on a very slow Monday night so can't claim the kitchen was too busy to pay attention to our orders.  Ordered the "blackened" salmon which arrived with some sort of glaze but definitely NOT what most of us would consider blackened.  The salmon was very moist but pretty unexciting, served with mixed veggies and a baked potato.  Hubby had surf and turf which consisted of a steak which was tough   and the shrimp were filled with what looked to be ping pong ball sized, hard, dry stuffing.   Not appealing in the least.  Had high hopes for the place but won't be going there again.

Service was very poor and unattentive on a very slow Wednesday night.  I ordered clam chowder for appetizer - not creamy like usual in NE (no description in menu). and ordered mussells for dinner - tender but odd aftertaste.  My wife ordered baked stuffed shrimp - shrimp were dry and stuffing looked like @#$% litterally.  Nothing we ordered looked appetizing or tasted like we wanted to finish it.  We were with our kids so dessert was a must otherwise I was already out the door.  Again, the desserts were disapointing.  Coffee was good though.

Even though I live only 1/2 mile from this restaurant I will not return under current ownership.

Garlic dressing is very good.  I can't remember anything else about the food, just the feeling that I've had better.

So, was on vacation with a Man whose back stability leaves a lot to be desired. In fact, he's really been lying on his back for over a month. So when this Man announced that he would LOVE to go out to dinner and SIT for over an hour his vegetarian wife just about had a heart attack and gave the go-ahead for us to go to Bee-Hive Tavern and eat some seafood!*

The ambiance is pretty amazing, in a just dingy enough to have character but clean enough to eat in sort of way. Strange slightly old looking paintings coupled with lots of, um, bees.

The menu is fairly extensive with a heavy emphasis on seafood. I had the lobster roll ($18) which was a solid example of the species- giant chunks of lobster, light mayo coating, little celery for crunch on what I call ridiculous New England excuse for a hot dog bun (but in this case it was the perfect options). It came paired (this probably cost extra, but it's vacation! I was trying to let loose a little) with some excellent sweet potato fries. I was very happy with my meal, as was the rest of the table (baked seafood trio, two fish and chips, cajun fish and chips, and a Mediterranean salad).

Service was friendly and low key, and our server helpfully let us sample the Cape Cod Summer brew so we could see if we liked it. We did, the whole table. This place was already apart of the other's Cape Cod tradition, and I am happy for it to become a part of mine!

*Note: She actually loves Bee-Hive Tavern from previous visits to The Cape. I was trying to make her sound like an ogre for dramatic effect. She's really the opposite. And she loved her salad.

    Quick, gory details:
The food was good.  I had the roast duck.  It was done well and I was sorry it was gone.  The service, in general, was ok.  Very nice waitress who wasn't overly organized.  No worries.  Generally speaking, I thought the food was better than typical cape fare and the service on par.

Here comes the issue.  My friend ordered a glass of pinot noir.  After taking 2 sips, she decided she wasn't sure that it hadn't turned and I tried some.  It was more sour than a pinot should ever be though not clearly turned.  I suggested she send it back.

Shortly afterwards, an older gentleman with grey hair parted in the middle returned to our table asking about the wine and was told that it was tart.  He then started to educated us about the wine and suggested to us that pinot noir is supposed to be tart.  This was condescending and unnecessary over the first glass of wine one of us returned.  He was informed that we have had pinot noir before and requested a zinfindel.  He then went back and returned with a sample of a glass of zinfindel so she could try it first.  Again, unnecessary, the zin was not great  but also not turned so it was fine.  The gentleman then returned with the glass of zin.  All of this over a $6 glass of wine for a party of 6 having multiple courses and drinks.  Fortunately, my party decided not to take up my suggestion to pay for our drinks and leave as the rest of the meal was fine.

Reference from wikipedia, a description of pinot noir:
The tremendously broad range of bouquets, flavors, textures and impressions that Pinot noir can produce sometimes confuses tasters.[2] In the broadest terms, the wine tends to be of light to medium body with an aroma reminiscent of black and / or red cherry, raspberry and to a lesser extent currant and many other fine small red and black berry fruits. Traditional red Burgundy is famous for its savoury fleshiness and 'farmyard' aromas (these latter not unassociated with mercaptans and other reductive characters), but changing fashions, modern winemaking techniques, and new easier-to-grow clones have favoured a lighter, more fruit-prominent, cleaner style. The wine's color when young is often compared to that of garnet, frequently being much lighter than that of other red wines. This is entirely natural and not a winemaking fault as Pinot noir has a lower skin anthocyanin (colouring matter) content than most other classical red / black varieties. However, an emerging, increasingly evident, style from California and New Zealand highlights a more powerful, fruit forward and darker wine that can tend toward Syrah (or even new world Malbec) in depth, extract, and alcoholic content.

And what happens when a wine turns from answerscom:
Wine will go sour when air gets to it, so a faulty cork may be the cause, or if you open the bottle and leave it for a few days it may turn sour. Wine can also have a reaction with the cork and turn sour, this is know as corked wine.

I was drawn here from the moment I drove by it. It has a cute sign, and when you walk in, everything is themed really well (with bees)! When I sat in the booth, I noticed it was extremely uncomfortable (it's a high back, and wooden with no padding on the back). I recommend sitting in a chair. The staff was great, and very friendly. My food was brought out to be within 10 minutes, but when I took a bite, my rare burger was more well done. It had grizzle all over it, and tasted burned, with no added flavor, my boyfriends order was incorrect as well.

Normally I'd let it slide if it was a busy day, but we were there around noon on a weekday. We were one of two couples eating, so I can't find any excuse for them. When we told the waitress our order was incorrect, she took it back without an issue. When it was brought out again, it was wrong...again. I would not go back, and I would not recommend it.

The cocktails here are very good, and the Gingerbread is OUTSTANDING. If you just want a cocktail and dessert, then this is your place. The homemade honey ice cream is excellent, and really, the gingerbread... I just crave it. It's absolutely fantastic!

The meals can be a bit hit or miss, but when they're good they're VERY good.

They sometimes have live violin music, which we love. The bar is cozy and appealing.

The ambiance is great here as well. So if you want a nice dessert, head on over. If you want a great  meal, and you're ok with taking a chance, go ahead and order one- you've got about a 50/50 chance that it'll be great, but if you want a cocktail and some gingerbread to share (it's huge)- then you can't beat the Beehive!

TL;DR: I didn't quite enjoy the experience, though the location was great.

My girlfriend and I went here for an anniversary early in 2010. We had a great time, and since we're always on 6A, we figured that we would stop by one of the places that always intrigued us. We walked into the completely empty eatery on the Sunday afternoon. It took them a good while for us to be noticed, but when we did we had some prompt attention from the waitress. We were offered a selection of wine to try (which we thought was strange at noon on a Sunday to two kids), but oh well.

I had ordered a bacon cheeseburger, while she got a chicken ceaser salad after some hemming and hawing. The menu isn't the biggest, with a selection of some pretty normal american lunch choices. Mainly consisting of sandwiches and salads, the selection was pretty run of the mill.

After almost 45 minutes of waiting, our food was finally brought out to us, though it was warm and way overdone, we figured it was just because of an error in the kitchen. The food turned out to be pretty good for cape tourist fare, but nothing spectacular.

The environment is what made it for us. We're both huge fans of places that look homey, and this struck that nerve pretty well. From the antique looking booths to the walls adorned with wine lists and combinations.

Overall, it was so long ago I can't accurately list some of the pros and cons of the place, but I will definitely say that I could eat here again if I had to.

Used to come here all the time and loved it. Quality food, reasonable prices, and friendly staff. This place just embodies Cape Cod for me not so much for anything specific in it but just because the memories I have of this place coming with my gf at the time during the summer months with the mix of locals and vacationers. Haven't been back in a long time, nearly 10 years but I would think that this place has retained its charm and all the things that I loved about it.

Pretty solid fare, somewhat more creative than usual in the cape, and generally nice staff (though on return trips we did encounter some sourpusses).  The place is a bit dark, but that can be excused given it's in a quaint old house.  Lots of wood, full bar.

Went for breakfast because it was one of the only places open early.Mistake!Waitress didnt acknowledge us,didnt even know she had our booth. After waiting 20 min we found her. Both ordered eggs benedict, asked if english muffins could be toasted first. What seemed like eternity, they were delivered, both cold.I had eaten some of the first one but couldnt continue.Cold eggs just dont cut it.Found a waitress to find ours to send back. When they came back,my one I had started was gone and both our orders were luke warm and the muffins not only had not been toasted, they were like dough balls(maybe from micorwaving them)It was the most disgusting breakfast I have had and we go to a different place every Sunday.I will say,the homefries were good, thus the one star.Stay away and wait till other places open at 11am.

    Classic casual Cape Cod tavern.
Don't expect top notch cuisine, but do expect good family fare.

    Friendly service although evidently self-contious.
I had the BBQ salmon special....very flavorful and fresh.
Sweet potato fries were a little old tasting and not hot.  The other people I dined with had the scallop pasta which was surprisingly good.  The swordfish steak was nicely cooked but the cut was quite thin.
Everything was a little too butter-laden  for my taste.

Beer selection was meager, but Props for having the local CC summer brew on tap.

Recently two iPhone dependent twenty somethings were stranded on cape cod with two dead phones and no idea what to do.
How will we know where we are/where we're going?
How will we know where to eat?!

When we first stumbled on the beehive, I was sure it was a mirage. Luckily, it was real, and it served my boyfriend the best bloody mary he has ever had. Even to this day.

I also recommend the stuffed quahog and the clam chowder, but the entrees were kind of boring.

It doesn't get any better than this if you're looking for a restaurant in the Sandwich/West Barnstable area. You can easily spend a great night in Sandwich with mini golf, ice cream, and the Sandwich boardwalk all nearby.

If you're going for dinner, I'd recommend calling ahead. They'll take your name down and you'll be seated a little faster than if you were to just show up. Entrees are sized very well--not too big and not too small. I recommend the lobster pie, but I don't think you can go wrong with any of the seafood options. The dinner specials looked very good on the night I went, but for some reason they don't come with a vegetable like the normal entrees. The dinner rolls and desserts are both good too, but you might want to get your ice cream somewhere else (like the Ice Cream Sandwich). On tap. you'll find Cape Cod beers from the brewery in Hyannis, including Cape Cod Summer (when in season).

My family and I had a booth that overlooked 6A. It's very nice and clean inside, and the service was good. Highly recommended.

Decent Food at a decent price- although I am of the opinion that thyme doesn't belong in New England Clam Chowder!  My husband and I like their specials......Had a wonderful burger there in September 2008.

    Had the following:

    Stuffed Quahogs
    Calamari / Chips
Lobster Roll w/ Sweet Potato Fries
    Gingerbread Ala Mode

All of the stuff was excellent, especially the Quahog and Gingerbread.  The price was relatively inexpensive except for the lobster roll.

The inside is an old fashioned tavern setting with a bee hive or two for decorations. It is clean and directly off of Highway 6A. The service was great and we had no wait on a Saturday during lunch.

Here is a long overdue review. My wife and family and I have been eating here for a decade. In the beginning it was great, then it was sold and went downhill a bit, then sold again and now back up to the original standards. As other reviewers have said, the food is all home cooked and really very good. Typical Cape Cod meals, from light lunches to hearty fare for dinner. Always good specials. Friendly and efficient staff. Very nice owners.

In an area where fine dining is hard to come by, this is a welcome oasis for the traveler or local.

never had a bad meal here.  everything is homemade. great place to stop for a cozy lunch in the colder months.  they always have a daily quiche special w/ salad.  their house dressing is hauntingly good. garlic and dill and creamy yum.  ask for their homemade rolls to start.
i also love the idea of their signature cocktail with the pineapple steeped in vodka or whatever that is.

The Bee Hive Tavern is your typical cape eatary. You have your pot pies and chicken and lots and lots of fish and chowder and cobbler and coffee. the decor is nice, but very oaky and dark. the fact that the thunder clouds started to roll in while we were eating did not help the lighting situation.

the service was excellent, attentive but not overbearing. all smiles all the time. the food was a mixed bag. my chowder was a bit watery and didn't have a lot of flavor, but the entrees were well recieved. the seared salmon with the mango salsa looked good, as did the tuna and the stuffed shrimp. I got the baked scallops and was not expecting the butter drenched dish i was given. the mashed potatos were VERY good; great flavoring choice with the nutmeg.

dessert was pretty standard; the cherry cobbler was inhaled.

all in all, a good place for dinner on the cape if you don't want to eat at a hole in the wall or a cafeteria style family place. main dishes ran about $20, so be prepared to spend a little.
