We went in this evening and bowled a few games. We had a pretty good time. The price of two games plus two pairs of shoes was about $26. A little higher than I expected, but since I finally had a day off from work on a Saturday night, it didn't bother me.
The service was very fast and friendly.
Somebody went in the bathroom and pissed all over the floor. I guess when people have alcohol, their common sense takes a backseat.
We were in town visiting the in-laws and decided to go out for a game. We'll definitely come again.
I was also very uneasy about visiting this bowling alley initially based on the reviews. But I was pleasantly surprised! We were greeted warmly, the lady at the front desk even joked around with us. Didn't buy any food so can't comment on that, but did buy drinks and the ladies there were also very sweet to us.
Best part was we went during their summer promo. $2.00 a game during weekdays plus $1.50 for shoes. We had three in our group play two games each for under $20. Nice!
Lanes are in very good condition. Help was a little slow when we had a jam, but that didn't bother us too much.
Decent customer service (most of the time). Â Lou & Patty are good. Â Yes, the other guy (white guy with thinning blondish hair) is a complete jerk. Â No idea how he still has a job. Â Yes, he gets grouchy when you dare to breathe. Â Yolanda in the snack bar is wonderful. Â The coffee is GREAT, too! Â Remodeled bathrooms are nice. Â Good place for family outings.
Review Source:This place is horrible!!! The guy behind the counter (not Lou) is very rude. He can get angry at you for breathing! The bowling is over $30 for three people to play two games! At Castle Lanes, you could pay less than that for three people to play two hours of bowling! I do have to admit that the food is great, but that's a review for the snack bar and not Bellevue Bowl itself. The scoring system is way out of date. When it's packed in there, it's very loud.
I would recommend Castle Lanes instead. Sure, they don't have all the perks of a modern bowling alley, but neither does Bellevue (seating, scoring). They're way cheaper (with free shoe rental, something not found here). And yes, while the staff there may not be that friendly, they aren't flat out rude.
Came on a Friday night for their $13 all-you-can bowl special. Â Since that price included shoe rental, we were hoping we'd get a break on the price since we had our own shoes, but they said they didn't do that (lamesauce). Â Happily there was no wait, so we decided to bowl anyway. Â We set up our lane, and there was music and lights going on which was fun. Â For some reason, though, our lonely lane was the only one where the pins were not lit up with black lights. Â We asked the guy at the desk how to turn it on, and he seemed annoyed and said he couldn't turn it on without messing up the scoring (lamesauce x 2) - we were just curious - no need to get all testy! Â Good thing the bar had good drinks!
Review Source:Unless you only have one or two in your party, don't mind paying $4.50 per game per person plus the cost of shoes, and can overlook the fact that the old guy behind the counter swears and flings his arms around like an angry bear, I would recommend going to Castle Lanes at the former Air Force base instead. Â Although this place has more lanes than Castle, I think the price per game at Castle compensates for it.
Bellevue Bowl charges different prices dependent upon the time of day and/or the day of the week...okay, that's fine. Â But, when I can spend $25 for several games at Castle as opposed to $30 for one game at Bellevue...my money (and respect) is going to Castle. Â As for the issue of customer service, most of the staff at Bellevue are decent...however the old guy behind the main counter needs to either retire or be replaced. Â I will not spend my money at or take my kids to a place where the person who is your first contact in the establishment carries himself as though he is inconvenienced by your presence. Â The guy swears under his breath and throws his arms about as if he's having a seizure, especially if you ask him to fix a technical problem with the lane at which you are playing.
I personally do not recommend this place to anybody, and I have bowled here more than once, with the same result. Â I'm tired of bowling at a place where I feel like an inconvenience instead of a paying customer.
FYI, for those wanting "cheap and fun", I recommend Castle Lanes instead. Â They charge $2.50 per game per person (as opposed to $4.50 at Bellevue), free shoe rental ($2.50 per pair at Bellevue) and are just as conveniently located. Â Granted there are no bumpers for the kids, my kids learned how to bowl without them in the course of one game...not that big a deal.
Cheap games with pretty good specials throughout the week! Definitely a fun place to unwind after a tiring or frustrating day at work.
If I weren't leaving Atwater soon, I would seriously consider investing in a pair of bowling shoes myself and come more often. $3 per rental can add up quickly!
Not to be mean but Merced kinda sucks when it comes to fun things do around here so, I am SO freakin glad that I found this place.
The games are cheap and  they have all the perks of a modern bowling alley. They have pretty good specials on week days and have a great deal on cosmic bowling. You can have children's birthday parties here and they also have a snack bar and an actual bar. And, drum roll please... they are open until 1 am!
Cheap and fun, it can't get much better than that.
This is a great place to bowl. They have all the usual amenities of a modern bowling alley. There are different opportunities for bowling at a special price during the week. They also have the option for children's birthday parties. On Thursday there is a special on pitchers of beer, and other items from their small snack stand.
Review Source:This place is pure bowling bliss. Â The games are cheap, the bar serves heineken and even the food isn't horrible. Â They've modernized the scoring projectors since my childhood, so now you don't have to figure out how to keep score. Â In addition, the computers are easier to use than some other bowling alleys that I have been to. Â Combine that with the fact that there is not anything else to do in this town and you have a great bowling alley. Â I will note that the organization and selection of balls could use some improvement, but I am very satisfied with this bowling alley. Â There are very few independently owned, family operated bowling alleys left in the U.S. Â Lucky for Atwater, one happens to be in town. Â Also, the Spare Room bar is quite friendly and offers a wonderful happy hour special M-F from 3pm-7pm.
