I was at a reunion with 9 cousins in Columbiana last weekend, and we ate dinner at Bernie's. It was great! The food was all delicious with lots of variety. Our service was wonderful in spite of the fact that they also had a large wedding party and it was the high school's homecoming that night. Thanks for a great evening, and we hope to be back again sometime!
Review Source:We went to Bernie's this past weekend (saturday night) and it was fabulouso! I have never had anything but good food there and wanted to take my wife for a nice night out away from the kids. When we arrived we were greeted and sat immediaitely. Jimmy Williams (who we later found, plays in some pretty famous Jazz bands) was playing Jazz music on a soft electric guitar in the corner. We ordered wine and Benard Tamburello, the owner came by the table to make sure everything was just right. My wife ordered the filet with a Marsala Demi glase and I the Pan Seared Salmon on rissotto toped with lump crab meat. - 5 stars to the food. It was knock your socks off good. The inexpensive wine list had some really great tasting wines on it. After dinner we had Homemade NY Cheesecake and Homemade Key Lime pie. OMG! Is all we can say. We love it. We will be back and you should go also!

I used to drive down 280 to get some of Bernie's 5 star meals, so I was excited to try his restaurant on Main Street in Columbiana. Well, I've eaten at Bernie's on Main several times and it isn't the gourmet fare they used to serve, but it is always good.
Check the buffet before you order off the menu. The wait staff will assume you know about the buffet and it can be easy to miss your first time through.
Whatever reason you find yourself in Columbiana, Bernie's on Main Street is a good place to circle up the wagons and grab something to eat.
I've had mixed experiences here. The first time I had Bernie's on Main, it was catered at the nearby power plant for a work meeting. The catering was fabulous, possibly some of the best catering I had ever had anywhere. A chicken and cream dish accompanied by real vegetables, not drowned in butter and bacon fat pretending to be flavor. Which inspired my boyfriend and me to drive the 25 minutes or so to the restaurant later that month for a nice dinner. Our first experience was fantastic. I ordered their steak with mushroom sauce which was on special, and after eating it, my boyfriend insisted we would have to come back again simply to get the steak. The steak was a thick, medium cooked ribeye with marbling in all the right places, and just enough heat on the outside to crisp the fat in a few places to give it that caramelized steak flavor. Mmm!
So we did come back several months later, as a special occasion to celebrate our engagement (August 2010). We both ordered the steak this time, although it was not on special. Since we were both ordering it, we ordered the smaller cuts so we wouldn't end up with a surplus of food (as had happened last time!). The steaks were about half the thickness of our first trip, and entirely too overdone. My boyfriend sent his back, only to have one equally overdone replace it. When ordered "medium", it was missing any pink on the inside at all. The steaks were so tough, they were actually hard to chew and reminded me of the "Western Sizzlin" steaks of my youth. My boyfriend asked about whether the management or main chef had changed since our last trip, but was told it is still the same. The staff was friendly, even though we made our disappointment over the steak known, and even comped us a dessert in honor of our engagement. (We had to take it home, but it was excellent the next day).
Determined not to let one experience with the steak influence our impression of Bernie's, we brought all of my family there several months later when they were in town. Everyone was pleased with their food with the exception of my boyfriend who again decided to try the steak. Once again, he was sadly disappointed not to receive the same quality of steak from our first trip there. I had the pasta and it was really very good.
We will probably try it again in the hopes of one day getting that perfect steak again, but wouldn't recommend it for the steak!
Bernie's on Main Street is a fine addition to the "Main Street" scene in Columbiana, AL. Â Depending on the time of day you can either choose to order from their menu or partake from their buffet (which is the equivalent to a "meat and three" style lunch or supper). Â
While the buffet is usually a better deal for your money, I have never been a big fan of buffet style meals and so I usually opt to order from the menu. Â The menu ranges from your gourmet hamburger to your steaks and seafoods with a few sandwiches and salads thrown in the mix.
All of the items I have had at Bernie's have been good quality and I am an especially big fan of their bacon cheeseburgers (with smokehouse cheddar!) Â The only issue I have with this establishment is their pricing. Â I can't help but feel as though I am paying mostly for the atmosphere (which is a mix of hometown and fancy, where else can you find the judges, lawyers, police officers, mechanics, barbers, and construction guys all eating together... other than Davis Drugstore?). Â
I would recommend Bernie's on Main Street for a good business lunch or a nice dinner for those nights when you don't want to stray far from home. Â Oh, and its always a great get-together for lunch after church services have let out on Sunday.
