I have stayed here many times in the past...all on business. I choose this hotel because of the comfort of the rooms, its location to my clients plus the airport. First off let me say that I like this hotel very much, and my room is perfect....so why the poor rating?
As a business traveler that is on the road most days of each and every day of the week.....I have maybe a special need that other hotel patrons here don't have... but I need more than the pool...which is really fantastic....but I need a physical workout room. I don't require much, never expect much....but this trip was different. Where is the workout room....well, they do not have one, but they will give you a complementary guest membership to a local health club in town. My first thought was...really...are you kidding me...?
After three days here I took them up on the health club membership...received the xerox copy of the funky guest registration (weird), the address in hand, got into the car and drove across town....never to find the club...nada, it doesn't exist...!!!
I spent the next half hour to 45-minutes driving all around the address looking for this health club. I gave up, went back to the hotel and to the front desk. They tell me it is hard to find, behind some funky warehouse...gee, with driving back and forth, I spent the last 1 hour to 1-1/2 hours looking...sorry...with an attitude. Let me see, can you call the manager for me please to discuss this problem? Nope...!!! What...? Nope, if you could not find the club that is not our problem...!
So, after wanting to tell the ladies where they could stuff it, I kept my mouth shut, and went back to my room. Thus here I type this review.
So while the hotel facilities are nice, clean and the rooms (at least mine) are comfy and warm...given the lack of a workout room, the BS attitude of the front desk help, no manager on site...I will not return here. There are plenty of hotels in Pocatello....just down the street actually...that recognize the needs of the frequent traveler and work with them have an enjoyable stay. I will gladly give another hotel my business.
I've stayed at some really nice Best Westerns before (OK, only one *really* nice one comes to mind), but this one is just weird. The entire vibe of the hotel is just confused. This is a huge property, split into several wings, and it's not particularly easy to understand the front desk directions on how to get to your room. (And I have a tendency to check in with my bags in hand, which means I hauled my bags a looooooong way before getting to my room - and luckily I happened to enter on the same floor as my room, because I never saw an elevator.)
I believe I was in the wing of executive suites, but my room was also just plain weird. Although the room itself was nice and spacious, the layout was awkward and the bathroom area was incredibly cramped. I will say that my giant king-size bed had a ton of pillows to choose from, so that made me happy. One of my coworkers apparently had a jacuzzi room, and the jacuzzi is just out there in the middle. And it's also your shower (I think). Now that's just plain weird!
Although the breakfast area is huge, there were a ton of people eating a really early breakfast with us on the first day and we had to wait for a table to sit down and eat. There are tons of food options though, so that's really nice.
I know it seems like a nitpicky thing, but the entire decor of the hotel was just confused and seemed to add to the weird vibe I was getting. It was just all over the place. All in all, it was a decent hotel for the price and served it's purpose, but if I was staying in the area again, I'd probably look around for another hotel.
