Big Al's Pub And Grubberia

FYI:  My review is based on the restaurant just a few weeks after they opened.

I came on a Sunday, hoping they would have a brunch-type menu.  Alas, my hopes were quickly dashed.

The menu seemed to be mostly sports bar/pub type fried fare, with some pasta dishes thrown in.  If you have friends from "up north" (i.e. Western PA, WVa, Ohio Valley), they should recognize some of the items.  I just looked again at the menu, and I thought I saw pepperoni buns, but I might have missed them.

So, the place is in the old Z-Pi.  The layout is _exactly_ the same, right down to the furniture and the flat screen tv's.

I ordered some onion rings (one of my measuring sticks for pub fare), and a sandwich.  The onion rings were pretty good.  The sandwich was only so-so.

I was pretty disappointed in the beer selection--nothing too exotic here, but, they do have Iron City for you Steelers fans.

The hostess was friendly, and I was seated promptly, but, criminy sakes, the service was terrible.  I knew something was bad when the hostess did not know where my server had disappeared.  I had _the worst_ server out of the 4 or 5 waiting tables that day.  I was constantly served last, my order was put in last, refills were slow coming.  If I see this person working there again (they looked like a meth addict) I _will_ ask to be seated in another section.  Even though I was dining alone, my server seemed to be preoccupied with other tables.  I was so disappointed in the service, I left a 10% tip.

I'll give this place one more try for food, and maybe once again to see what the "night life" is like.

Bottom line:  if you want fried pub food and to watch the game with some pedestrian suds, come here.  Otherwise, save your money and just get a frozen pizza and six pack from the grocery store.
