As you pull up to this place, it looks a bit run-down, and you question the previous Yelp reviews . Â There are only 4 tables inside, possibly more elsewhere but hidden from view. Â The menu is rather large but luckily they had a buffet going on for $13.99, which included catfish, ribs, and fried green tomatoes. Â The wife had a pull porked sandwich, and I was glad I didn't choose it because it was sweet and vinegary for my taste, but the wife liked it. Â The catfish was good. Â Same with ribs. Â Same with fried green tomatoes. Â Service was friendly, but there are bibles on the table if that bothers you. Â I wasn't a fan of the macoroni and cheese, which is light on cheese, and the green beans come from a can. Â If in the neighborhood, I would come back.
Review Source:No vacation is complete without grabbing dinner at a true, honest-to-god truck stop BBQ dinner. Pulled pork, sweet tater fries, green beans soaked in butter, and strawberry cobbler made for one of the most delicious meals I've ever payed $12 for. But the real charm was in the ambiance.
First of all, you knew this was a legit truck stop because their advertising was done via CB radio. How do you beat that?
The walls were decorated with all-American signs and reprints of famous documents. The Ten Commandments were also posted, as a friendly reminder to be a good Christian. At our table was two copies of the New Testament, one in English, one in Spanish for the Latin patrons. We were also offered illustrated brochures explaining how if we failed to follow these religious guidelines, we were doomed for eternity. Nothing like some good Southern morality to go with your meal. (I'm actually not being sarcastic, I really enjoyed that this was a thing that they did. Not because I'm religious, but because I'm always entertained by overt religious 'sales' approaches/threats.)
In addition to the Christian/American theme, various pigs were strewn about the decorative shelves - stuffed animals, figurines, a board game in which the goal is to "bust bellies"... perhaps where the establishment got it's name?
Four tables with four chairs each were all this tiny shack had to offer, but they seemed to do just fine offering meals to-go for their truck-driving target diners. If I were a trucker, I'd take advantage any time I was sent through Mumfordville.
Outside, you could smell the BBQ smoking, and there was a smoker modeled into the shape of a large pig. Menu options included pulled pork, smoked shoulder, ribs, and BBQ chicken. Three desserts were offered, but only two were available tonight, as the owner had stepped out and left the kids in charge, and they weren't sure quite how to make Deep Fried Moon Pies. But the "Nanner Nanner Puddin'" and Strawberry Cobbler were absolutely delightful.
If there were a place like this local to home, I'd eat there frequently.
I came along this place while passing through. A great hidden gem with good food. I came twice on this trip the way up and back. I tried the pork sandwich with mac n cheese and green beans with a blackberry cobbler. Great food and you def get your money worth..Wish there was a place in San Francisco, CA
Review Source:We came here on the way to Mammoth Cave from  Michigan because of the Yelp reviews. Having grown up in Georgia, I have to say the food I got (ribs, fried okra, collard greens, and sweet cole slaw) were not the best I have ever eaten, but all were solid good food. I would have actually given 4.5 stars for the food, but I did not have that option.
The place was a little more than a shack, but having read a newspaper clipping they had posted stating how they started in around 2001 selling food at county fairs, then moving up to a food car, then to this building, I could forgive the ambiance. For me the food comes first. That being said, my kids could not forgive the ambiance and it affected their dining experience.
By far the best food I've had in awhile. For $40 for 2 people we had all-you-can-eat ribs AND catfish. Both with two sides and drink. Best ribs and catfish I've ever had hands down!!! Definitely recommend to everyone who loves BBQ. They have the friendliest people there and it's quiet and quaint. BBQ sauce was impeccable and prices were amazing. Even bought a quart for 7 bucks. Left full and happy. How many places can you go for that price ?? That even included the tip and that quart of BBQ sauce. No where can you do that. The people are patriotic which tops it off even more. The place is all decorated in the American flag. Christian folks and they love their country. Couldn't ask for a better place. I will definitely be back.!!
Review Source:Wow shoulder steak amazing!
This is just a neat place, it isn't someone trying to bring out off the road here with all of these reviews, check my review history! I was just passing through and heard that this was a great place was good, and let me tell you IT WAS! I am going back down that way next week and am making sure my party is in this area around lunch time.
They are always on the CB and it works, it is just a great little place that should be on tripple d! The atmosphere is great and just a nice small town place!
OK, before you write off all these reviews as people trying to lure you somewhere shady, check out my number of reviews and my distribution! Â I am not faking my love for this place.
My husband missed the exit for the restaurant I wanted to try, so as we headed south we found BBBBBBB. Â And yes, it is little more than a shack, and yes, the ten commandments are on the wall, but don't let that scare you! Â The barbecue here is good!
It's not the best I've ever had in my life in terms of meat and sauce, but the sides and the sweet tea more than made up for it. Â Even a vegetarian could fill up here and leave happy as long as they life fried foods. Â On a scale of 1-100, their fried green tomatoes were a 100. Â No lie. Â Best I've ever tried in my life, and that includes my grandma's.
So if you're heading to Nashville from the north, find this place, walk on in, and enjoy a great lunch. Â You won't regret it!
3.5 stars
What an excellent find! Â Some crazy interstate traffic on the way out of Nashville left us behind schedule and hungry on the way to Kentucky, so we cancelled our lunch plans at our destination and stopped at Big Bubba's instead. Â This place is definitely a hole in the wall-and there's a fantastic amount of pig collectables all over the place. Â Even the smoker has been fashioned to looks like a pig with a spring tail. Â My man and I both got pork sandwiches with the hot bbq sauce and we ordered sides of sweet potato fries, fried okra, and macaroni and cheese. Â The sandwiches were amazingly delicious-he's convinced that it's because they toast the underside of the bun. Â The sides weren't bad, but the okra and the berry cobbler with ice cream that we had for dessert were the real stand-outs. Â Everyone that worked there was super friendly, and they could definitely tell that we weren't locals-the second we walked in, looking confused, a man told us to take a seat anywhere and handed us a couple of menus. Â "I don't work here, but I hang out here almost every day."
Docking in the star rating is only because they are in desperate need of some new chairs-my fiance's chair had a hole in the cushion the size of his fist and I was a touch disappointed in the sweet fries. Â
Worth a stop if you're in the area.
If you are going anywhere close to Mammoth Cave, KY you absolutely must stop in at this place! Â The area is not exactly a Mecca for gourmands, but this place takes the cake as the place to eat lunch or supper within a 100 mile radius. Â
It looks like an absolute dive, but I think the ambiance actually adds to the food's quality. Â Their smoker has been modified to even look like a pig with the curly tail being fashioned from an old metal spring. Â The owners are great people too and they are as friendly as you would imagine any southern family to be. Â My wife wanted to buy one of thier t-shirts but they were sold out. Â The owner's wife told her that she would sell her the one on the pig by the register but it had a hole in it!
The food is not bad at all either. Â The bbq is a bit too smoky for my taste, but their homemade bbq sauce is out of this world and actually covers up some of the excessive smoke flavor. Â I got an open faced pulled pork shoulder bbq sandwich that was served on a cornbread fritter with a side of fried green tomatoes. Â Everything was wonderful and not terribly expensive. Â It was one of the highlights of our trip, and we kept comparing every other place we ate with Big Bubba Bucks Belly Bustin BBQ Bliss. Â I'm so thankful that it came up on my GPS!
One further note: If you are heading south on the interstate, take a right at the bottom of the ramp to get to the restaurant--my tomtom GPS had it located incorrectly by the Super 8 Motel. Â It is about half a mile on the right in a blue shack!
Stop here!!!
I had to make my wife go in this place it looked so scary. She thanked me later... They have the best Sweet Tea (and trust me, I have sampled the Sweet Tea of just about every Southern state), one of the best Pulled Pork sandwiches I've ever had, deliciously creamy mac-n-cheese and fried corn on the cob that I'm going to fantasize about later.
Oh, and the meal included a homemade berry cobbler that had me licking the bowl clean.
You will not be disappointed. This is some of the best food on 65 between Nashville and Chicago. I might make a special five-hour trip there just to sample the grub again.
Don't let the name fool you - this place is good. Seriously good. Is it the best BBQ I have ever had? No. But the full experience is what its about. When I tasted the collard greens, I swore my grandma was in that kitchen. The ribs and pork were pretty good - the sauce really killed it. Very spicy but a lot of flavor. The sweet potato fries were sweet, not savory. Not my style but still pretty good.
I was full before desert. I thought to myself that I would take a few bites of the banana pudding. A few minutes later I was scraping the bowl with my spoon. Seriously good.
The meal was fantastic. This is a true blue barbecue joint. No, they probably don't use farm fresh ingredients. It's not "farm to table". Nothing is organic. If you are looking for healthy - barbecue is not path you should be barking down. This place is just stupid good.
Stop by on your way through, you can even order by CB Radio!
We stopped here after the name popped up on the GPS. We were glad we did, although my two young sons would have preferred McDonalds. The place is as country as it sounds, just off the freeway with a sign that highway construction companies use to let drivers know of pending delays. The restaurant is small with only five tables inside and some outdoor seating. I guess most of the business is pick-up only and comes from truckers as the parking lot in the back had plenty of space for semis.
The staff is friendly, and immediate recognized us as out-of-towners. The menu had a lot of choices, but they happened to be out of pork shoulder, which most everyone wanted. The portions are big. Each meal comes with two sides and a dessert. I had the ribs, which were excellent dipped in the homemade barbecue sauce. I also had the baked beans (OK) and fried taters (really good). For dessert, I had the peach cobbler (very good) and tried my sons' banana pudin' (very good).
Not everything was great. Others in our party said the pork chops were dry, and that other sides were just okay. Overall, I would recommend you stopping in; if for nothing else than the experience. While the restaurant is in a small town, don't expect the prices to be small. Great name, and the food is not bad either.
Oh, and if you take kids, ask for the kids menu.
I don't mind a run down atmosphere if it means good BBQ so I really didn't worry when I saw the outside. Â If I'd seen the kitchen before I ordered and ate I'm not sure I would have stayed. Â
Husband and I both had pork plates, while hubby had fries and slaw I went with fried green tomatoes and okra. Â The BBQ sauce was very disappointing. Â The fried green tomatoes were overly breaded. Â
HOWEVER, the sweet potato cobbler I had for desert was fantastic.
The family who runs this place are gracious hosts and provide genuine service, but the good news stops there.
The food is the worst BBQ I have ever had. Â The meat itself was dried out and under flavored. Â EVERYTHING is fried, including my lovely corn on the cob. Â The salads, mac 'm cheese and desserts taste right from the grocery store shelf. Â The dining room is dirty (i.e. fly trap hanging when you walk in door) and almost as unappealing as the food. Â Despite being in the middle of great farm community with abundant produce, not a single item tasted fresh. Â Everything is served in disposable, styrofoam containers. Â I would avoid this place at all costs.
Venturing around on side roads across the country we found some signs that lead us to Big Bubba Bucks Bustin BBQ Bliss. Â We were greeted by a family of girls that were running the place. The staff was charming to say the least. As the other review states "This is the real deal". I had the pork steak came which included potato salad (made w/ miracle whip), fried green tomatoes and banana pudding (naner puddin') The pork steak fell apart with just the nudge of my fork and tasted like candy. The fried green tomatoes were my favorite and the naner puddin' was intoxicating. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich and swears it was the best he ever had. 3000 miles down the road we were still talking about it!
Review Source:Wow-
We stopped here on a whim on our way home to Detroit from Nashville. There is no sign on the freeway, but we saw a sign at the botom of the freeway exit. I think there is a Sonic at the same exit. Â
This is the real deal. My husband had ribs that had at least an inch of meat on them. I had a BBQ taco, which was different, but yummy. They made my daughter Chicken nuggets, even though they were not on the menu.
I thought I would be disapointed when I saw the mac and cheese looked like Kraft, but it was doctored up, and yummy. The banana pudding was super sweet, but good. None of us ordered the cherry cobbler, but that looked good as well.
My husband loved the greens, I liked the fried zucchini, yum. Best sweet tea we had in three states.
If you come across this place, stop, It looks a little scary, but give it a try.
