On our way from Des Moines to Jefferson and we stopped for lunch after reading about this adorable place on yelp. The quiche was fabulous and freshly made minutes before we arrived. Â The coffee was some of the best I've had. Â The server helped us decide and had our food/ drinks on the table almost instantly. I will be stopping in again as I head out of Jefferson
Review Source:It's got... ssssteam heat! This place has historic charm and a big menu, including sandwiches. The baristas do have control of the steam heat, and it comes in handy.
While doing grad school in Atlanta I became something of a Coffee Snob, and developed an espresso habit. The Big Chair did not disappoint. And they actually have a few big chairs!
The Big Chair has one thing you'd never get in Atlanta - easy conversation with the baristas or other partons! Gotta love Iowa.
An unexpected gem of a coffee shop in Perry. It's just around the corner from the Hotel Pattee, a unique and charming small town boutique hotel with wondrously themed rooms. Â
The Big Chair is the place to go for your morning Joe (gourmet blends) and much more. Espresso, coffee drinks, summer smoothies, chai teas (I love mine dirty), hot chocolate, Italian sodas, and etc. The barista will customize your drink at your request (They made a delightful Spanish latte for me on one of my visits.).
I'm from LA and visit family in Perry now and then. I didn't expect to find such a coffee shop here and was so happy when I did. The Baristas pull their coffee drinks like they do in the best of the coffee shops in California. Yet, The Big Chair has a home town flair with their folksy friendliness and their delicious home-made baked goods. If you are lucky you will find apple cake with butter sauce in the display case. The goodies vary from day to day. Today it was home baked cinnamon rolls. And every day there is a quiche for lunch. It's not your run-of-the-mill quiche either. It's chocked full of ingredients in a custardy goodness.
There is free wifi, and of course, big high-backed chairs. Alas, no fireplace for those Iowa wintry  days and evenings.
