I have eaten at Bistro De Soleil 4 times and enjoyed the prix fixe menu selections each time. Â On two occasions the service was intolerably slow. Â The hostess is rather aloof, which is disappointing. Â The food is GOOD. Â One disappointment though was the mozzarella and tomato salad. Â Way, way too much balsamic vinegar was drowning , rather than complimenting the ingredients.
On one occasion, I sat at the bar while waiting for my husband to join me. Â It took the bartender well over 5 mins to acknowledge my presence. Â There were only 2 other patrons seated there. Then it took another 10 mins for him to even make my cocktail, which he made wrong!
The service is really lacking, except for Pablo, who is pleasant, attentive without being cloying, and knowledgable. The hostess really needs to warm up. Â By the third visit to a restaurant (off-season!) one would expect a big smile and "good to see you again". Â Treat the locals right and we'll be coming through the door when it's off-season, the lack of warmth or recognition as well on our way to being regulars has kept us from being regulars. Â BTW, my husband and I eat out at least 5 times a week! Â Their loss.
A group of 7 of us dined here last night, 6/24, to celebrate a retirement. I ordered a steak, very, very rare. My companion also ordered steak, med. rare. Â When the food was delivered to our table and we cut into the meat, my steak was med. well done and my companions was well done. We waited and waited for the waiter to come back to the table. When he did finally return and asked how everything was, I told him my steak was unedible, it was way over cooked, tough and tasteless. He just shrugged and walked away! Â Needless to say, the two of us sat and watched the others in our group eat their meals. I did manage to eat the small salad that was on the plate, and a few soggy French fries! Â And for this terrible meal, I was charged $25. The price of the steaks should have been taken off the bill, but was not! Â My companion took the steaks home for her dog! Â Maybe they enjoyed it.
My best advice: Â Stay Away from this "joint"!
We were a group of 4 who went here on Monday night, 6th May 2013 as recommended by locals who had been before and liked this place. Â We had one vegetarian in the group and checked the menu beforehand to make sure there were viable options. Â There were.
On arrival (we had not booked), a surly foreign 'host' took us to a table, on the other side of the restaurant from where a big party of 14 was about to settle in for their dinner just after us. Â The decor in this place is nice, it was quiet enough and our waitress was nice and helpful.
So, we get menus and there is NOTHING for veggies on it. Â We ask can the chef do anything and the waitress comes back with a big fat NO!!!!!!!!!! Â Just the veggie of the day, salad or fries. Â So the veggie ended up with a side of fries and a salad, crap meal!!!! Â The rest got their main meals, some were part of a $20 meal deal they do during the week, but the pork and steak ordered were WAY overcooked to the point that one of the group, usually non-picky, had to send the steak back. Â He ordered MR and got WD. Â
It also took AGES to get the meal. Â We waited nearly an hour for our mains, as did others around us. Â Maybe it was due to the big table but this is still unacceptable. Â We will never go back here next time we are on the Cape. Â It's way overpriced, you don't get what they say on the menu, they can't even bend a little bit for someone on a special diet and the host is RUDE!!!
We walked every inch of Hyannis on a recent weeklong stay and this dinner was my favorite experience. Â We came for the three-course, early-bird prix fixe dinner we saw on their sidewalk chalkboard. Â After being seated at the bar between two other pairs of diners, we shared a bite of our braised short ribs in exchange for a couple of uneaten Caesar salad anchovies with the ladies to the right and walked away with new friends! Â We enjoyed an attentive bartender, local clientele on all sides, great conversation, and an intimate dining experience -- all at once. Â And the clincher? Â $20 per person, including a glass of wine.
Review Source:This is now becoming my favorite restaurant on the Cape. Â Their daily special pris fix meals or appetizer, entree with dessert AND a glass of wine for $20 is a deal that cannot be beaten -- AND also the food is so well prepared - the service is usually very good - when they are really busy, it is a little disappointing - but on the whole a great spot to dine. So give it a try and you will see why I give this restaurant great raves!
Review Source:2nd visit to this restaurant. Â The first visit, despite a crowded restaurant, the food and service were great! Â Tonight, a quiet night, was awful! Â We had a 4:30 reservation and had to wait outside until 4:35 until the door was opened. It was cold outside. We had to wait another 5 minutes to be seated while the owner spoke with the server. Â We were the 1st customers of the day! Â Finally we were seated in the back corner near a window. Â I had to move away from the window because it was cold. Â Why were we seated there since we had a reservation? Â 2 of us had the Prix Fixe menu which included a glass of wine. Â When the bill came we were charged for the wine. Â The server told us it only came with the wine listed on the Prix Fixe menu. Â The menu wasn't clear! Â My food was bland and tasteless. Â My husband had the Veal Piccata which he said was mediocre. Â My daughter said her meal was good! Â We were trying to take our daughter out to the lovely restaurant we had visited in October. Â What happened to Bistro Soleil?
Review Source:First time experience at Bistrot De Soleil and have nothing but high regards!!!! We had reservations but upon arrival were asked to wait a couple minutes so that they could give us the best possible table ( which was a table for 2 elevated on a stage like platform). The service was perfect with a full water glass at all times. We did the 3 course prix fixe dinner which was not only very reasonably priced but undeniably some of the most palatable food I have experienced in a long time. From the mussels, to the petite sirloin, to the creme brulee, all accompanied with a glass of chardonnay for $20, everything was superb. An experience not to be missed!!!! We will definitely return!!!!
Review Source:I have had dinner here twice. Once in May 2012 and then early December. Both times were pretty much equal in regards to the following: the menu is creative and offers many choices. The gluten free options are also better than most local restaurants. It's nice to not be limited to plain chicken, steak, with a veg and potato. Everyone in our party raved about their entrees. The decor is great and you are greeted at the entrance with a comfy lounge area.
The reason I give three stars is because of the service. Both times I have been there, the service was poor. Management is apologetic and offers a round on the house or gift cert for a future visit (menial amount) however, when your bill averages 50 per person, you want that experience to be great.
It is next to impossible to get a drink at the bar while your waiting for your table. Patrons are served dinner at the bar, and it is also the service bar for the waitstaff. The bartender cannot keep up and pretty much ignores anyone standing behind the barstools. The last time there we waited at the bar 15 and never even caught the eye of the bartender. We were then seated and a waiter didn't come to our table for another 10 minutes, we gave a drink order and unbelievably, it was another 10 minutes or so until waiter came back to the table.
I could go on because the service just continued to deteriorate. The waiter was not qualified for a fine dining experience, at all. When we left, the waiter was outside taking a "break". There were 2 other tables around us that had similar complaints. We were offered many excuses from the waiter was new, to the kitchen was swamped because a large party had just come in before us. I am sorry, but these are not problems clientele should be responsible for accommodating.
Suggestions: Add a bartender for the service bar on busy nights and train the waitstaff better.
What a great find!!!  I read their review in Cape Cod Magazine (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.capecodmagazine.com%2F&s=9fbe15e070f4a18a0856a17ab28e88958b72a8d4e7b6d03572440812fc1bf492" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.capecodmagazi…</a>) and we tried it.  The magazine was right!  What a menu.  There were four of us and the diversity satisfied all of us and more.  I'm not sure of a place on the Cape where you can have a gourmet burger ($9-$11), a real stone oven homemade pizza ( we chose the goat cheese, carmalized onions, mushrooms and prosciutto) mouth watering Beef Wellington (for one and cooked perfectly medium rare) and Coq au Vin all on one check!  The wine by the glass section was very diverse and interesting and reasonable!  In fact their prices were remarkably reasonable.  The server was very pleasant and she left us a copy of their prefix menu that offers a choice of a glass of wine, an appetizer (4 to choose from) an entree (9 choices) and a homemade dessert (4 choices) all for $20!!!  We can't wait to try it!  I wish them well.
Review Source:Another fantastic meal at Bistro de Soleil! Â Their new prix fixe menu is amazing. Â I had the Stuffed Pork and it was amazing - moist and tender - flavorful. Â The Caprese salad is the best I have ever had - I have had it here several times and it is very consistent. Â The prix fixe menu is only $20 and includes a glass of great wine, appetizer/salad, entree, and exquisite dessert. Â It is available all night Sunday-Thursday! Â A definite in my book!
Review Source:I noticed this restaurant a couple of weeks ago and a friend said their burgers were excellent. Â For $10.00 I hoped they would be.
I settled on the stuffed baconburger  .  It was served on a "Pain d'Avignon" roll (a local business) and either their quality has gone down or it was "pain d'hier"  (I suspect the latter).  The itself tasted reasonable, but certainly not as described in the earlier review by Mark.  Fries were OK, crisp, nice solid potato inside, but tasted as though cooked in oil previously used for fish.
Service was OK and the decor was extremely good --- nice and clean crisp white tablecloths and a genuine nice upscale feel.
The kicker for me was the bill. Â I paid it and left but on the way out I checked the menu I had browsed before coming in. Â On that menu the item was $10.00 but I had been charged $12.00.
When I went back to inquire, I thought maybe it was the take-out menu but I was told it was the regular one.
On speaking with me owner / manager / person in change., he expressed no concern, no apology, just said it as outdated menu.  In that case, don't have loads of them on display.  I dread to  think how much a regular entree would have gone up if they increased the price of a burger by 20% in one clip.
Average food, dreadful customer service and I doubt that it will survive that long (poor food + poor customer servjce + bad location = short shelf life!!)
On a happier note, if you head to Main Street the next business in the same building is a great place called Spa 700. Â Amazing massages, facials, wonderful staff and probably the best spa this side of Boston.
For the best food, keep going to the ever expanding Brazilian Grill just on the left for amazing cuisine and excellent service.
I have visited this establishment on a few occasions since it's opening in early spring.
First for take out of which I ordered their burgers. Â I have to say mine was one of the best I have had on the Cape in a long time. Â Pizzas were equally delicious.
Upon entering the establishment, you are first taken back by the modern sofas and warm atmosphere. Â The owners have done an excellent job of transforming a former club/bar into an upscale bistro.
During my last visit to the restaurant, I joined some friends at the bar. Â The staff could not have been more warm and friendly. Â We all were very impressed by the fact that the owner personally took the time to stop by and chat with all his guests. Â Our meals were served promptly and were more tasty than we each anticipated. Â I was surprised to see that they offered a favorite bottle of wine that I had been searching for, but had not been able to enjoy elsewhere. Â My friends and I sampled crab cakes, spinach salads, and a pasta dish with lobster. Â All excellent! Â
We all commented to the chef that their music selection was quite complimentary to our overall dining experience. Â It was also nice to see patrons of a mixed age group too. Â Menu items were reasonably priced in all categories.
Consider this new restaurant  for casual or finer dining.  And remember to take the time to get to know the staff and it's owners as my friends and I did.  It just adds to the night out.  Don't forget to save room for  some of the deserts made onsite too.
I cannot believe the transformation from Harry's to an elegant restaurant. The name is French but rather diverse with an Italian influence and world music playing in the background. My daughter and I came for a Saturday luncheon before she flew to Paris. The setting is immaculate and elegant. The waitress was quite attentive and helpful in all regards. She was really pleasant checking when needed. We shared  a Baby spinach tossed with tomatoes, marinated artichoke hearts and chevre vinaigrette.  The vinaigrette on the side was lovely. We enjoyed the chewy sourdough bread and whipped butter.  She chose  the pan seared polpettes with parmesan and fresh mozzarella cheeses, tomato sauce and angel hair pasta. She said the house made pasta was great.  I enjoyed the hicken breast in Panko breadcrumbs pan seared and baked with  tomato sauce, mozzarella and parmesan cheese with house made linguine. We had tap water. We are light eaters so had plenty for another meal. It was a perfect pre Paris mother daughter luncheon. The bill was 41.00 including tip. The host and waitress, perhaps the owners greeted as we departed. Very congenial and welcoming vibe.
Review Source:I ate here three times this summer and it got better each time. The atmosphere is elegant/casual, if there is such a thing. We usually saddle up to the bar, which is very cozy. They have a good wine list and good cocktails. I wish the appetizer selection was a little more broad, but there is a great selection of entrees. You can't go wrong with one of the rissotto's, my favorite is the short rib, sooooo good! The service has been good, although the last time we were in there the place was packed and the bartender has a tough time keeping up with all the drink orders and taking care of us at the bar. They could have definitly used one more bartender. The chef/owner and his wife are very charming and have spoken with us every time we have been in there. Give this place a try, you won't be dissappointed!
Review Source:My husband and I had dinner here about 1 month ago. Â Both food and service was so so. Â We split 2 dishes: lobster with rigatoni (only 3 pieces of lobster and rigatoni was overdone, ugh) and shrimp carbonara (which was delicious). Â I had creme brulee for dessert and you could pour it on my plate it was so soupy. Â When I told the waitress the pasta was overdone I got no response and the wait staff and hostess pretty much did not engage at all so I didn't bother to complain about the dessert. Â There was a family waiting for their food nearby and they were nearly comatose. Â
Also, this is a little picky but this restaurant has fake plants which turned me off right away. Â Fine dining should not have fake plants, just have no plants at all. Â We tried to make ourselves feel better about this experience by chalking it up to the restaurant being new and working out the kinks. Â But the only reason I would go back would be for the carbonara, because it was really really good.
Six of us had dinner at Bistrot de Soleil this evening and not one of us was
pleased. It was so bad that it seemed like the kitchen was trying to sabotage the
restaurant.
First of all, we waited one hour for our bread and salads to arrive. And, one of these orders was wrong. After an hour and a half we, and the table next to us, began to get anxious about the whereabouts of our meals and began to question what was happening. Our waiter was apologetic and despondent; he wouldn't divulge what was happening in the kitchen, and we asked if we should just pay for our salads and drinks and just leave. The party at the table next to ours, who had been seated long before us, took their dinners to go.
After a two hour wait, our meals arrived and were not at all satisfactory. The
polpettes (meatballs) were burnt and dry. The risotto with salmon was inedible;
although the salmon itself was okay, the zucchini (we assume) was burnt beyond
recognition, and the rice tasted bitter, as though it had been cooked in a pan with
burnt food. The stuffing in the flounder Florentine was cold. I had the penne
with lobster Florentine; the lobster was devoid of flavor, and the garlic was over-
whelming.
We gave the pity vote to our waiter who was a tad inept about getting us bread,
water, etc. The hostess was nothing short of rude, acting like we were the ones with a problem, that meatballs are supposed to be burnt. She told us that "This happens sometimes," and that the chef had "messed up an order for every table." As if that was supposed to assuage us. The most helpful employee was the busboy.
Although the restaurant comped us a portion of our bill, none of us would EVER,
EVER go back there again. It could be one of the worst dining experiences we've
ever had. For a restaurant with a capacity of under 80, you'd think they could figure
out how to get a good meal to the table in a decent amount of time.
Charming spot! My boyfriend read about this is in the paper and it didn't disappoint! The renovation of the old "Harry's" is fantastic! Perfect for groups or a date. This will make a great addition to the Hyannis restaurant scene. The menu was reasonably priced and varied. Neither of us was that hungry, so we had appetizers and salads. I had a spinach salad and the crab cake appetizer. Both were delicious. The crab cake wasn't too "bready" and they used a homemade vinaigrette on the salad, yum! My boyfriend had the caprese salad and a hamburger. Everything was very fresh. We sat at the bar and the bartender was great. She was attentive and pleasant. Bistrot De Soleil will definitely make it into our Hyannis restaurant rotation.
Review Source:My wife and I stopped in for lunch today and I am here to declare that this new restaurant, located in the old spot of Harry's and ever so briefly Dina's, is quite worthy of your patronage. The space is lovely, The dining room is two spaces separated by a comfy looking leather sectional sofa. The cranberry carpet and tile floors are offset by lemon yellow and burnt orange walls. Walls are adorned with stained glass sconces, artwork evoking France and the Mediterranean. Tables are spaced out nicely, covered in white linens, and set simply, yet elegantly with cloth napkins, silver and side palates. The separate bar area is modern, spacious, and has a casual elegance.
The menu is quite broad with French and Italian influences. They have several appetizers and salads and allow you to add grilled salmon, jumbo shrimp, chicken, steak or lobster to any salad. This is a feature I wish more restaurants would offer. There is a range of burgers, priced form $9-11, an array brick oven pizzas, and about 2 dozen entrees featuring seafood dishes, pastas and several risottos. Dinner entrees are priced from $16 to $28. At lunch they offer smaller portion plates for a very reasonable $10-$13. We ordered the chicken saltimbocca ($12.50) which was a very nice rendition with diced Roma tomatoes, mushrooms, pan roasted chicken with a nice thick cut of parma prosciutto served on pasta. Tender, juicy, and flavorful proved it was a result of a skilled hand. With so many interesting choices it was against my better judgement to order a burger, but ever on the lookout for the Cape's best burger, I opted for the bacon stuffed burger ($10). I'm guessing it was 8 oz. of fresh angus beef stuffed with apple smoked bacon, and topped with Monterey jack and caramelized onion. It came with a generous portion of hand cut seasoned fries, crispy on the outside and meaty on the in. No Sysco frozen stuff here. The burger was cooked to order perfectly and was at least 1 inch thick, juicy, and filled out the Pain D'Avignon bun. Cape's best burger? I haven't had better!
The service was a little disjointed, clearly inexperienced but very personable, and it took a little too long for the food to come out of the kitchen, especially given there were only 4-5 other parties. But the end result was terrific. At $24 for lunch plus tip (no drinks today) it's a very reasonable tariff.
It's a tough location as it's just off Main Street and most tourists will overlook it. Well worth your time and money, however, so when you are in the area, give them a try. Lunch for now is just Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
