"The Brewery" is one of my favorite places to visit while in Hamilton. It's a great place to catch up with friends, mingle with locals, catch a great band or enjoy some delicious food. This family owned business has been a Hamilton institution for many years. They have an established set of regulars that you'll run into again and again enjoying a brew, but they always welcome newcomers with a smile and a great suggestion for a delicious cold beer.
Their award winning beer is delicious. Standards such as the Sawtooth, Nut Brown and Single Hop are always solid choices, but I usually like to try the whims and seasonals on tap. I've yet to be disappointed by a suggestion from the bartenders and I've broadened my beer drinking horizons! The new menu boasts juicy burgers, wings and tacos as well as plenty of options for kids. The daily special always includes creative flavor combinations and plenty of fresh and local ingredients.
Entertainment ranges from live music and special dinners with beer pairings to game nights and fly tying. Of course you can always stop by just to relax with a cold beer. Can't go wrong with Bitter Root Brewing!
I had read up on Montana brewery laws because I couldn't figure out why the pubs closed at 8pm so was only a little confused about the beer vs. food ordering. Â I could see others who didn't understand but the waiter was spectacular and simply smoothed over the uncomfy bits and made everything groovy.
The turkey burger I had was one of the better I've had the pleasure of inhaling. Â And I don't know where they rustled up the bun but it was super duper. Â The other meal was a chicken ceasar wrap and while it looked wimpy from a distance it was rumored to be packed with chicken. Â (Unable to verify the rumor, I was too busy shoving turkey and maple bacon down my gullet.)
But you're really here for beer and you're really here for good beer. Â Never fear, good beer is here!!! Â A local at another shop told us that they never realized how good Bitterroot Brewing beer was until they went somewhere else. Â Funny, but true.
Two words: awesome burger. We went for a beer and decided to grab some lunch while we were there. The bartender was really nice: a good combination of attentive but not pushy. I had a new beer they were offering: the Harvest Ale, and was very impressed. I ordered The Bruiser, a burger piled high with peppers, blue cheese and carmelized onions. Â It was huge and delicious. I had the sweet potato fries, which were good, but I was jealous of my wife's regular fries, which were better. Â
The food's a little spendy, but well worth it. Great atmosphere, great beer, great food and friendly service. Can't beat that! I'm definitely going back next time I'm in Hamilton.
Had the sampler, which was all 10 of their current brews.  Favorites were the huckleberry honey, nut brown, and the single hop.  Best veggie burrito I've had in a long time.  Had them add cilantro and jalapeños and omg..yum.  Thanks for the hot jalapeños!  We love spicy food and these jalapeños lit us up just like the ones we have in Texas.  The chips and salsa that came with were divine.  Really don't think i could duplicate the salsa, it was that good.  Fish taco was napa quality, very good.  Service was attentive and helpful..perfect.
Review Source:Beer: The obvious reason to come here, the beers are really good. I don't know a lot about hops or head or barley....only that it tastes good when I drink it. My favorite beer so far has been the India Pale Ale. If I'm just sitting around drinking with friends it's my go to. I also like the Winter Ale but it packs a heavy punch (finished with some sort of hard liquor) so be careful on that one. I'm not a huge fan of the Amber Ale, though. The good news is that they let you try a little bit of whatever you are interested in BEFORE you purchase.
Food: They have a really good kitchen here. I never go wrong by getting the WHIM of the day. My friend had a duck confit salad with chocolate dressing the other day and I had a pork wrap with cabbage-relish slaw. I've also had their burgers, fish tacos, spinach artichoke dip, and hummus. I recommend all except maybe the burger. I'm a really finicky burger eater and I think no burger measures up to the Ray's Hellburger in Washington, DC. I thought the Brewery burger was a bit dry, but the flavor was pretty good. Plus they had delicious french fries going with it, which I was dipping in the spinach artichoke dip (heaven). Fish tacos are good in the fried or grilled form and not too pricey so I recommend getting multiple tacos. Â
Service: The people who serve you are friendly and really nice. Sometimes when it's super busy, you need to go up to the bar and order yourself because it can get pretty slammed in there. Not an issue for me, because it's not a chi-chi place. Being a former server in the restaurant industry, I am always sympathetic of when waitresses are busy. I'm a pretty non-fuss customer unless you take 30 min to get my order or bring me cold food. They have never done that here so I'll keep tipping well.
Atmosphere: The place is located in a warehouse and you can see the big vats of beer in the back. Like I said, it can get pretty crowded, especially on weekends or nights when they have a band so don't plan an intimate dinner here. They have unfinished concrete floors, open ceilings, and free popcorn which ends up on said unfinished floor most of the time. There are bar tops and also regular seats available. I've never had a problem finding a table but it gets tricky in the summer time when they have to open the patio and the upstairs dinning area.
Pros: yummy food, beer, free popcorn
Cons: loud, gets busy, limited parking lot
This place believes in spicy (and this coming from a Texan).  When you're referring to their salsa that comes with the nachos or  in the soft taco or burrito, that's fine.  When it appears unexpectedly on the (relatively small portions) of fish that are included on the fish and chips basket, it's less than ideal.  At least the beer is inexpensive!
