I've been to this place several times now and in fact i'm the duke of it.
so the fact that i gave it such a low score is telling.
when it opened it was a novel idea for an irish bar -ship in all the wood work for the inside, piece by piece from ireland. and all the loacal news was a buzz about it.
but after the novelty wore off, people came down to the realization that this bar was basically a smaller second bar to edmunds next door-they share a kicthen and even bathrooms- you have to go into edmunds to use the bathroom- which is awkward,.
i've had the mac and cheese here once and it was awsome, baked with green onions and pretzel crumbs
but the last time i was here i had it again and it was just soggy noodles with watered down velveeta.
very disappointing to not get what you you had received before and were expecting, especially when your hungry
Irish bar in downtown Lansing. Somehow, even though it was night, Â it seemed darker inside the bar than it was outside. Â Bartender knew his whiskeys, but despite all its efforts, I never felt like I was transported from Lansing, although that seemed to be what they were gping for. Maybe that's because it was a month old and was trying to hard to look like it had been here for a while. It's the bar equivalent of a baseball glove that hasn't been broken in yet.
A little older crowd than most of the bars downtown (a good thing if one is above college age). Â An ok time, but I'll probably let this one ripen a little before I return.
I'm constantly complaining about Irish bars, I feel like too many generic Irish bars keep popping up... that being said... Black Rose is another generic Irish bar, yet it has a rather beautiful dark interior. I was disappointed there wasn't more on draft, but it kept with the theme of all Irish brew. Â I didn't eat but the menu was rather limited, especially considering they are sharing a kitchen with Edmunds. Â
But the reason they are getting 3 stars, is despite the mediocrity of this Irish bar, is that the service was stellar. Bartender made a mistake and I didn't say anything, then 4 minutes later they realized the mistake on their own and took care of it. I really appreciated that.
