I have a new favorite steak house. This restaurant  not only has the best food, it's service is impeccable as well.
My husband had a chopped salad with a house blue cheese that I am still craving. He had an insane baked potatoes (huge.... that could have feed a family of four) and a juicy Cowboy ribeye steak that was to die for. My garlic shrimp with black linguine was bursting with flavor. I would highly recommend this restaurant and after eating here why would anyone go to the buffet after eating this delicious meal?
Black and Blue is an Amazing Steak and Seafood Restaurant. They have a great selection of fine wines and the food is delicious! Â The sentiment from start to finish makes the dining experience magnificent! Â The tray of gourmet olives/cheese/and almonds to start the meal is Excellent! Â Then the choices of bread, the Butter Flake and Cranberry Walnut are my favorites. Â My regular items I order our the wedge salad to start, the Porterhouse Steak which is deliciously prepared, a side baked potato and a split of Champagne, and for desert their delicious Carrot Cake. Â My husband always orders their New York Steak and a salad it's to die for. Â Highly recommend you try this place. I've been a regular customer since they opened and it just gets better.
Review Source:This place is amazing! A+++++
My Husband and I stumbled upon this gem almost a year ago. Let me tell you that after our first visit here, we continue to return to Black and Blue at least twice a month since.
The customer service, presentation of food, quality of food and overall dining experience blows me away each and every time we visit.
If you are a meat lover, check out their Prime Rib special, cowboy ribeye steak and short rib tagliatelle. Their flatbreads are amazingly delicious too! One of my faves is the blue cheese & filet mignon flatbread and duck flatbread.
Souffles are on point. If you haven't tried one of these, you're missing out. Flavors change daily.
Black and Blue is simply the best!!!
This place is amazing! They were full at the lobster buffet that evening, so they gave us a $20 voucher to spend at any of their restaurants (each!) Since we went down here for a belated Mother's Day celebration, I decided to take my mom to this restaurant and treat her out to a nice steak dinner!
To begin with, I honestly think this place is amazing value for what you pay. Sure it's not the cheapest restaurant on the block, but it definitely is great value (especially compared to some of the steakhouses in Los Angeles!)
We had the nicest and most knowledgable wait staff help us pick out what we should order. They come around with great fresh bread made locally (or in-house?) and a few hors d'oeuvres for the table. We ordered the calamari appetizer, which was made to perfection with 3 different sauces served beautifully. My mom opted for the prime rib and I got the rib eye. The portions were no lie HUGE. I bet one steak can probably feed 3 people (or 2 if you're really hungry). Usually people thing that quality is lost over quantity, but everything was cooked to perfection and extremely flavorful.
I really appreciated that we were asked mid-meal if we'd like to place an order in for a souffle (which takes 30 minutes to prepare), so they definitely take your time into consideration. I was able to use the above Yelp check-in for a free cookies and cream souffle, which was (surprise surprise) also extremely delicious and cooked perfectly.
Overall, for the hors d'oeuvres, warm bread, calamari, prime rib, rib eye, and souffle, our total only came out to a little less than $60 (after the $40 credit was applied... that's TOTAL, not each!). I felt like I was eating a $200 meal.
I would definitely recommend checking this place out if you're in the area-- trust me-- you won't regret it! Remember to tip your server here-- they do an amazing job and have an amazing attitude!
AMAZING!!! I've been here several times before but stopped coming for a while, I don't know why... anyways, that said, Black and Blue has never failed to deliver!
We ordered the prime rib, the lamb, and the flourless chocolate cake (thanks yelp promotion for dessert!).
The prime rib was ordered medium... and it was cooked perfectly!
The lamb was ordered rare. Sooo good it melts in your mouth! I can't describe the pure palate pleasure... it's to the degree where you can't help but close your eyes and just take it in... all is right with the world when you eat their lamb. Â Highly recommend it.
The flourless chocolate cake was very enjoyable. Â They melt the chocolate in front of you using warm carmel. Â What a pleasant introduction to our dessert!
The service was also phenomenal! Caroline was our main server. Â Together with Tim, their attentiveness to our dinning needs was absolutely incredible! Â I did not have to look around or ask for anything, they were already on it.
I'll definitely be back here again soon!
I finally got to try this place out for my birthday with my ladies back in Dec 2012. The food & experience was awesome. It's hidden within the casino of course. It's not cheap in here so get ready to be spending even if it's for drinks & appetizers. Us ladies don't get cheap when it comes to dining. So of course ordered from drinks, appetizers, main course, & desserts. Even got to gamble a little. Everything was delish. Looks as good as it does in my photos. Of course I had to get the Ultimate Surf & Turf since that's what they are known for. This is when it gets fun. After we finished the main course, since I ordered the Surf & Turf I got to gamble. They brought over the table which looks like I was going to make black jacks. They had 10 cards they shuffled & laid out in from of me. The game was that I had to pick one card that will the new price of my dish alone or add more $ to the price. My dish alone was $70. So 10 cards that was from free or $90. Talk about a gamble. For fun, they let my ladies pick a card too. So one by one they flip the cards I didn't pick. Everytime I was holding my breath. Haha. Finally she flipped my card I got the lucky with the $20. So my meal was pretty much the cheapest of the night. Can't wait to go back!
Review Source:Let's be honest, I came to Valley View for the lobster buffet. It was unfortunate that it was packed to the rim and even the seasoned card holder wasn't able to get a spot before it closes. We got vouchers to eat at Black & Blue and wanted to check it out.
Service:
Service was great since it's considered more of an upscaled restaurant.
Food:
The food was great. We ordered an array of appetizers from full dozen oysters to the lobster avocado tower. The appetizers was very good. The New York steak is as expected for a steakhouse, very tender and well seasoned. I can't say much for the fried chicken and waffles. I know... Chicken and waffles? If you've ever been to Roscoe's you'll understand. The chicken was a chicken breast with some flour and deep-fried. There was a lack of crispy-ness to it and the waffle wasn't that good either. I had a few bites and called it quits. I by no means recommend the chicken and waffles.
Drinks:
They have a wide selection of wine and a few beers, but the one thing that called out to me was ice tea for some reason. In my case, I wanted an Arnold Palmer. Can't go wrong for $4. This was the best deconstructed Arnold Palmer ever! The ice in the ice tea was made out from frozen ice tea so it never gets watered down. The lemonade was out of pure lemon juice. The liquid sugar was from pure sugar cane. When mixed properly it tastes like heaven juice in my mouth.
Overall:
This is a rather pricey place to dine at. The food was really good with the exception to the chicken and waffles. If I was staying at the casino and didn't want to go anywhere, this would be the place for me. I live near downtown SD and there's other better options for me. I like the ambiance if you can look past the casino.
We drove from the OC for The Buffet unfortunately they closed early because it was a busy Presidents day weekend. Hungry and disappointed we went to the next available option, Black and Blue Steakhouse. We were pleasantly surprised! Great decor, courteous servers and most especially food was superb. The manager was on the floor checking on customers. Servers bring you a basket of different kinds of breads to try. They give you cheese, olives and sausage. We ordered Alaskan Halibut and Filet Mignon. Decent size and best quality. Both were perfect! Our sides were Forest Mushroom, Onion Rings, Mashed Potatoes. All so yummy! I totally forgot about The Buffet because we are very much satisfied with Black and Blue Steakhouse. Totally worth the price. We will definitely be back!
Review Source:Couldn't get into the buffet so the hostess explained Black & Blue.
My 2 friends and I decided to give it a try - it was my birthday.
Well, talk about DEEEEEELicious and more. Â Certainly pricer than the buffet but my friends and I were worth every cent ... er ... dollar.
Thank you for a beautiful experience and the service and decor were nice, too.
Stayed at the casino for two nights and ate here for both nights. First night we just ate off the appetizer page which we had a flat bread and the lobster avocado tower. Both were super good. Next night we used our 50 dollar credits for joining the players club, didn't want to do the buffet and eat my self silly and have to buy a new pair of pants. Wife had the filet and I had the short rib tagliatelle which were both scrumptious. Service was excellent couldn't have been better. Will definitely return. Â After diner took our drinks and went next door to the bar and watch the fish meander in the giant tank, pretty entertaining.
Review Source:Possibly the best steakhouse in North County that no one has ever heard of. It's at the far east corner at a Casino that is known for their buffet so it's no surprise they take extra pride in the details. Form the tea to the service to the plating you'll find this is no ordinary leather boothed dim can lit steakhouse.
Black & Blue is the term used for a heavy char with a rare center. Some chef's and butchers use "cold cut center" when ordering so as to let the kitchen know they in the food service, specifically kitchen. It's kind of a way to have them put extra care into the food as your own people often are the most critical. It's more about the inside than the outside. The key is the cold bloody center and the seared outside, doesn't have to be charred like Black & Blue suggests, so there is a slight difference.
Since it's a modern steakhouse there is quite a bit of seafood and honestly we're not too far from the ocean, but I really liked the lamb sliders, tender, packed with flavor. The cornmeal dusted calamari to be is better than tempura, but I wish the dipping sauce  had more spice and was thicker. Ahi Tuna and both shrimp apps aren't real attractions despite their great taste and amazing displays. Lobster Avocado Tower is really pretty and an interesting play on flavors.
Wedge salad is a classic and I get it where I can instead of caesar's, but their caeser here is garlicy. Roasted and infused in the dressing I think they might also have garlic throughout. Baby Striped beets would be amazing if they used a mix of golden and red.
I'm a Maine lobster fan and although Australian is a close second and they cook them  here perfectly and plate them beautifully I prefer Maine and whole, wish they offered it. I tasted hints of garlic and tyme.
Carnivore's rejoice in the quality and variety of having Korubuta Pork, Colorado Lamb and amazing steak. As stated earlier I do not recall seeing USDA Prime, Choice or Select anywhere on the men and if like many Indian Reservations source their beer from local and often organic producers direct they may not get the same grading from a meat stockyard in some other part of the country. I do my part to buy local and then organic and if possible both and perhaps they are too, but I can say unequivocally they steaks are amazing. If I recall they are wet aged, which is amazing considering the dry aging process is going away and becoming costly as a whole. The distinction of being Prime over Select is more important than USDA and to age a Select would never get it to a Prime level. You can pay 2-3 times the amount to get a smaller dry aged USDA Prime steak elsewhere, but having had had all 4 of their cuts all "black & blue" as they say I found no lack of marbling, no overly red color from older beef and a tenderness that only comes from aging young beef.
Many of you are side freaks. I like a good side too, but the steak is the entire show, the sides and desserts are to me just an encore. You gotta have creamed spinach, sautéed is not traditional enough. Buttery mash, makes or shoe string potatoes. The side dish you'll be surprised the most by is the Maui onions, sweet, sweeter than onion rings and a much fuller flavor, not covered up by breading and although their onion rings are good, go grilled Maui, forest mushrooms or creamed corn and stay away from the usuals.
Great service, great cordials/after dinner cocktails like Moscato, Amaretto. The Tea and Lemondate caraffe's let you adjust your mix, but as most people who read up before coming here will and do agree is the ice tea with tea cube ice in that is an interesting take that scores points for ingenuity. Amazing service and a slightly more modern, but clean design that to me is a better draw than their exceptional buffet. It's a bit out of the way considering there are good and great steaks throughout San Diego, but B&B is a different sort and the things they do different are enticing.
I do not recommend this restaurant! Â I had a horrible experience! Â I got food poisoning from eating a warm and vile oyster. Â It tasted like death. I was vomiting within 2 hours of eating it. My halibut was very dry also. Â I have left 2 messages with the manager, Monique Hawkins, appraising her of the experience. Â I have not heard a word from her. It has been almost 2 weeks since my first call to her.
Review Source:Hi Yelp Friends!
So originally Shirley dragged me to Valley View Casino in hopes of getting her hands on some all you can eat lobster at their buffet but we were too late and they ran out. Boo! But what the casino does is as long as you sign up for a Players Club you can get it next time and they give you a $20 credit to eat at one of their other restaurants. Score! So we decided to try Black&Blue.
We hung out at the bar which had a huge fish tank (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Finstagram.com%2Fp%2FT2Ho4xTfF4%2F&s=f06d8d655a9420b3e51be2d13c81fa0edb652df2f503996f9db6b4263aec6d87" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://instagram.com/p/T…</a>). We made faces at them until we were seated. Babies get bored sometimes.
The restaurant décor is modern inside and the service was nice and friendly. Nick was great. Almost talked us into doing the Ultimate Surf & Turf which you play a card game at the end of your meal and your meal could be free if you win. Shirley was chicken so we didn't do it.
A must have suggested from our Yelp friends was the Iced Tea which is iced tea ice cubes + sugar/syrup + lemon juice which Shirley gives a "meh" but I give a thumbs up, it was refreshing.
They brought us a tapas starter and next they came by and had you pick bread from their assorted bread basket (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/black-and-blue-valley-center#QEOapaBWM-AnG6ElaP4QWw">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>). They were so yummy!
For our entrée Shirley as usual ordered the Cowboy Ribeye 20 oz. which came with this bread muffin thing and some veggies (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/black-and-blue-valley-center#yv3n2tEgl_UV75kQ5n9M1g">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>). It was good. Not great, but good. I decided to try a little bit of this and that and ordered the Lobster Avocado Tower and the Tomato Bisque & Lobster Panini (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/black-and-blue-valley-center#gqNeuR6WMWebiJC95O-Ndw">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>). The lobster stack started off good, but after a while it tasted off. The bisque was not the best. It wasn't as creamy as I wanted it to be and the panini was okay.
Our dessert however was AWESOME! Since we checked in on Yelp, our desserts were free! We ordered the Banana Cake and White Chocolate Strawberry Shortcake. They were AMAZING! :)
Overall we would definitely come back and try something else from the menu.
Until next time,
Babies out!
My wife and I came here on Sat 8/4/12. We had an 8:00 reservation. Got there at 8 was told they would need 15 min to set the table. We came back 30 min later, hostess took us to table, wasn't set. She had to get us our silverware and butter plates. In reviewing with us the menu, waitress read off the specials of which prime rib sounded good to me. They also had a tomahawk steak which is just a cowboy steak without the bone cut off. I ordered the prime rib and the waitress informed me that they only had well done left. Humm, why did you even offer it? My wife and I decided to split the tomahawk which we were told was about 28oz without the bone. I had the corn chowder with crab which was pretty good, wife had tomato soup with lobster panini and we split the calamari. The waitress told us she would bring bread, which she never did. After she brought the bottle of wine, we didn't see her again until the entree was brought. Runners brought the app and soup and runners they were. Left food at table and ran so we couldn't ask for bread. Calamari came out first and the top pcs were decent but, you can't stack fried food. The steam that rises makes the food soggy so the top two or three pcs were decent, the rest was soggy and greasy. When they delivered the soup, I asked the runner for the bread we never got, his response, sure, I'll bring you some more bread. He came back and informed us that they only had cranberry bread left and started to leave with it but I was able to catch him and retrieve some bread. At this point, service and food were 2 stars and it went down from here. Two plates with mashed potatoes and green beans were set in front of us, and then the steak was brought out on a long plate. It was an impressive presentation. The steak was for the most part cut off the bone and then sliced. I started to plate my wife's meat and noticed most of the meat was rare. We ordered med rare. Of the 9 slices, 6 were rare and 3 on one end were well done and actually brown on the cut ends. The big pc that was left on the bone was actually a big 3 oz pc of fat. Nice! The waitress noticed us looking through the steak and came over to inquire. We showed her how rare it was and she said they could cook it more. I told her that because it was sliced in the kitchen they wouldn't be able to properly cook it more without drying it out. The whole idea behind cooking it whole and on the bone was to keep it moist and juicy. I then asked her about the 1/3 of the steak that was well done. She just shrugged so I asked to speak to the kitchen manager. The restaurant manager came over instead and asked what was the matter. I showed her and explained that that was unacceptable. There was no way all of that steak could have been cooked together since the well done slices were right next to the rare slices. She offered to cook the rare slices more and I once again explained that you can't properly cook the steak more since it was already sliced and what about the well done pcs? She got defensive and started defending the quality I the kitchen staff. I had never inquired about the price of the steak but throwing out a guess told her this was totally unacceptable for a $70 steak. She told me it was $90 and what do we expect her to do? She then proceeded to say that this cut was brought in special and since we enjoyed most of it, there was nothing she would do. We reassembled the cut pcs from our dinner plate into the serving plate and we had more than 3/4 of uneaten steak to return, unenjoyed. So much for customer service. The only thing I can figure is they added some of the overcooked primerib to the tomahawk to make it more impressive but, it was not really impressive. My guess is that they get a lot of people looking to get their food comped. We had no coupons or discounts, didn't feel like waiting in a long line to get our players card for $25 off. Service reflects the fact that the staff don't  have to provide good service since the 17% tip is already included. Manager should maybe move to the free buffet area as her skills are better suited for guests that are trying to put food in their pocketbooks.I will certainly ad my before and after pictures of the steak, you be the judge...$90 tomahawk steak? I don't eat that much beef anymore and when I do, I'd like it to be good so while the price was high, if it were cooked properly, would have been worth $70? Price isn't the issue though, quality and customer service!
Review Source:The steaks are tasty and well prepared. Â The cowboy ribeye, filet served with marrow, and the NY strip are all excellent choices. Â The meats are the main attractions. Â I'd go back for a steak any day! Â They get 5 stars.
The sides are decent, though nothing spectacular.
The Caesar salad was the worst I have ever had in my life. Â It was advertised as a garlicky caesar. Â I'm thinking, yeah, I love garlic. Â The result was a dressing that was all garlic and anchovy. Â It really needed some lemon and dijon to balance it out. Â I asked my friends to try it as well. Â No one liked it. Â The server neglected to ask why more than half remained. Â I'm currently searching for the best in San Diego, and this came up way short.
The thing I really have issue with was the automatic 20% tip that was added to our bill without mentioning it! Â We each (3) had a $20 Â dining credit because the buffet line was too long to enjoy that night. Â Maybe that was why because when we were at the bar earlier for an appetizer and drinks, no tip was added.
When I go back, I'll be sure to check for the tip added before leaving one. Â Oh, and I won't be ordering the Caesar salad.
TIP: Â I'd avoid Saturdays unless you have a reservation.
On a lazy Sunday a friend & I decided to hit up Valley View Casino. Â We decided to dine at Black & Blue which ended up being the best decision of the weekend! Our servers Maya & Lauren were fabulous! Â Those two beautiful ladies were so attentive and have the best personalities and killer smiles! Â I recommend taking the plunge and gambling a little by ordering the Surf N Turf! Â That's all I'm going to say - but seriously roll the dice :-)
Review Source:My fiance was given a voucher for a free hotel room at Valley View, and $100 in dining credit. Since we don't get to take many "real" vacations, we decided to treat ourselves to the expensive Black and Bleu, instead of going to the buffet.
We sat down, and ordered a decently priced bottle of wine, which ended up being really good. Next we were delivered an amuse bouche which was tasty and a nice surprise. Shortly after, rolls were delivered. There are three kinds of rolls to choose. Mine was flaky, buttery, and sweet...delicious! For an app, we ordered a lopster/ avacado tower. It had big chunks of grapefruit in it that I really did not enjoy, but once I put those to the side, it was pretty tasty...although I was not impressed. There was very little lobster, and the lobster that was on it looked like blue cheese crumbles...it didn't look, or taste like lobster. Finally the main course arrived. I ordered the filet mignon, medium... which i told would be slightly red in the middle...instead i got a steak that was well done except for the very center, which was slight pink. Not impressed! My fiance got the New York, and hers was cook much better than mine. The steaks were $37 each, and do not include sides...sides are $7 each. We passed on desert, but were brought little lemon cookies anyways.
I did not really care for the food here, but I did enjoy my experience regardless. It was nice to be away, and spending 90 minutes being waited on, and enjoying some wine. The bill came to $160, but $100 of it was covered by our voucher. If I had to pay out of pocket for this meal, I would be pretty upset.
THE GOOD:
Fun experience
THE BAD:
Food is not great
Prices are sky high
CONCLUSION:
In my case, this was worth the $60 out of pocket I had to spend...however it would DEFINITELY not be worth the $160 the bill originally read before the voucher took effect.
it was very Yummy!! Â no doubt the Chefs at this Casino/Hotel have skills! over the last 3 days i enjoyed the Lamb Sliders (7of10), Lobster Ravioli (8of10)...but the real Awesome Absolutely Deliscious item i Ate was the "Lamb Chop" !! Â (10of10). it was Perfect.
i also enjoyed the Oysters , the multiple breads they have available and love their homemade Butter. Place is definitly on the list of best of restaurants!! Â This Casino takes such good care of its Guests!! Â it is nice to find a place that is well worth your money...and the Lobster Buffet!!....go check that Yelp ..its A-Friggin-mazing!!!
I continue to go back,,...and Highly Recomend!!
Yeah., i said it!
We met our foodie friends G&S here for a night of debauched dining. Â They have eaten here previously and wanted us to experience it.
ORDER THE DAMN ICE TEA. Â I can't believe any restaurant puts so much thought into something as banal as ice tea. Â I love them for it. Â The ice cubes are frozen ice tea. Â They serve lemonade and simple syrup in separate carafes so that you can concoct your own perfect blend of sweet and tart in your glass of tea. Â I didn't even order cocktails or wine because I was so intrigued by the damn ice tea. Â It was a shiny nickel moment in my life.
I ordered a Caesar salad which had actual real bona fide anchovies sitting in it. Â I'm so jaded by the crap Caesar salads served at marginal restaurants these days that I forget how wonderful the truly authentic can be. Â Score another point for Black and Blue.
Three of us opted for the Ultimate Surf and Turf and played Dining for Dollars to determine how much we would pay (more on that later).  The lobster was an Ozzie tail of Rockzilla proportions.  I thought it was perfectly cooked, not rubbery in the slightest.  This is NOT the lobster they serve you at the buffet.  I adored the scallop.  Again, it was perfectly cooked, sweet and filled with flavors from the  ocean.  I found the Tower-O-Filet less to my liking.  The meat looked like a volcano cone right before eruption.  It didn't make me love it.  I didn't start eating it until I finished the seafood, so perhaps some of the tenderness leached out. Â
So now for Dining for Dollars. Â Ten cards are shuffled and placed faced down on a dealer's table. Â Each card has a dollar amount that you will pay for your Surf and Turf meal should you select it. Â The three of us pick cards on which they place avatars. Â Mine was a treasure chest because I'm so valuable. Â As the manager turns over the unselected cards, we see $90, $70, FREE (awwww), all fall to the wayside. Â Yet here comes $80, $40, $50, etc. Â Can you believe it? Â The three of us picked $10, $20 and $30 - the lowest cards next to FREE. Â It was the only thing we won gambling on this trip, however. Â What a great gimmick. Â Kudos to the genius who knows that degenerate gamblers are looking for anything to bet on.
I will eat at Black and Blue the next time we return. Â How did North Sandy Eggo get such a great restaurant?
I would have given 5 stars if the waitress approached us with water before 10 minutes! We were given warm wash towels to clean our hands (nice), then we ordered - the calamari is great - the mixed greens was great - the caesar salad - not so much - the halibut was cooked perfectly and the veggies were superb - couldn't have done a better job. The Rib Eye was also amazing with the sauce and onion strings.....the dessert was the chocolate mousse cake w/ice cream - amazing presentation! I ordered a raspberry mojito - eh, it was aight, but didn't see any mint...weird!
One thing I want to say that impressed me the most - was the Manager on duty that evening (Thursday Feb 16th). As you can see from the comment above, the salad wasn't that great, so we kindly requested to dismiss it. The manager came right over to our table and was very concerned & apologetic...he wanted to ensure everything was up to par......I was impressed with his efforts, and you could tell he took pride in the restaurant (which isn't always the case). He was very hands on, and instead of giving orders to his staff, he was so attentive - the Customer Service is so important, and some fail to realize that! He followed up later by giving us a wonderful dessert, personally delivered by himself.....call me old fashioned, but personal service goes a long ways!
I will definitely be coming back!!!
OMG...this place was soooo good! We only had appetizers, but everything was delicious and over the top. Service was good and the ambiance very ornate. I had the oysters on half shell with several dipping sauces and lemons. The hubby ordered some spicy shrimp app..they shrimp were huge and nicely breaded. He also got lamb sliders they looked good, but I'm not a big fan of lamb :( My mom ordered the garlic caesar salad very good as well. WE all got coffees and they give you whip cream, chocolate spoons and other stuff to complement your coffee...very nice touch. Highly recommend if you are ever in the area.
Review Source:The buffet was sold out, so we were given a $20 voucher to eat elsewhere in the casino, so we sat at the Black and Blue bar and ordered apps and salad and vodka tonics. Nothing really stood out for us except the complimentary bread bowl. Salads were just average considering the price,  but I WAS impressed that there were real anchovies on the Garlicky Caesar Salad <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/Uc3d0Fb4JRcYS1Ri8Z9mBw?select=wllXyz5jw4MZGz8t2HjZsg">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a> .  Even better that the poor soul who ordered it hates anchovies, and after schooling them on how REAL Caesar salads HAVE anchovies, they were handed over to me, and I smooshed them into my mouth and they were gone.
I
LOVE eggplant, so I figured I must try the eggplant appetizer, but I found it to be pretty salty and nothing to write home about and the sauted mushrooms were just average also. Our third app was the Duck Confit Brie Springrolls <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/Uc3d0Fb4JRcYS1Ri8Z9mBw?select=TPlUD-pf1tLJkvy9Cz4ovg">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>. Now THAT sounds interesting and I was really looking forward to them. I was disappointed because I could not taste any duck or brie. I even wanted to look at the menu to make sure I read the menu correctly or maybe ordered the wrong thing, which could tooootally be possible after a day of wine tasting and casinos.
I can't judge the steaks that everyone is raving about, or the interesting tea and condiments for the coffee that I saw pictures of, but I felt the salads and apps were overpriced for what we received. But the bread bowl was really nice with an assortment of different types of breads and muffins, i think a bit of soda bread was even in there because I recall having to spit out a raisin. It was offered with what appeared to be a slab of butter drenched in olive oil. LOL. <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/Uc3d0Fb4JRcYS1Ri8Z9mBw?select=jNm08aNpaBaAE1E8TP9UOg">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>. Fat on fat!! Double the fat, double pleasure...  Oh wait, maybe its just melted butter and too much wine causes hallucinations.
This place must have changed since last reviews
Of the items we had this is the result
Wif'e's Chicken curry was tasteful and flavorful
My calamari was well prepared
Side of sweet potatoe was horrid
Next we both got the 20 ounce Rib eye
The absolute worst piece of supposed high end steak
Fatty, bone in, charred to point my medium rare tasted like beef ribs
At $ 38.00 each a enormous rip off
They should be ashamed of themselves!
I came here with my rents and two of my older siblings. Â We really wanted to go to the lobster buffet but they sold out. Â So we decided to come to the steakhouse for a nice steak meal instead.
Upon arrival, we received first rate service and were neatly tucked into our seats, literally. Â We started with some wines and water and a raw oyster plater for an appetizer. Â It was very palatable especially with the lemon and other sauces given. Â
My parents ordered some asparagus and salad, other than that our main courses consisting of prime rib, NY steak and salmon. Â My sister says the NY steak is the best she has ever had and that is hard to come by her. Â I had a piece of the Salmon and it was absolutely scrumptious, nice and juicy with lots of flavor. Â And the prime rib was good, but I have had better. Â The size of portions was attainable, not too large, not too small. Â
Though the meal was a good one, I give four stars because of service. Â We got great service at the beginning and then it died down. Â It's as if they forgot about us for a while and then came back when my dad would request it. Â They weren't that busy, but I think they need another waiter/ress to accommodate everyone's needs. Â Also, they charged us for the wrong wine (which was more expensive), though they both are from the same winery but different variety, so I can see why they would make a simple mistake like that.
Overall, I had a good time with my family which made the meal much more enjoyable and my time at the steakhouse. Â In turn, I would come back if the service is speedier and to add, the ambiance was nice with a lady playing the harp the entire time.
The casual Prime* Steakhouse.
Overall it was an outstanding dinner and probably the best steakhouse in North Country. But how does it stack up to Donovan's and Ruth's Chris? Â
Iced Tea - Probably the best in San Diego. Iced Tea Ice cubes, mini carafe of simple syrup and lemon juice. Â
Breads - Oh so good. Warm and fresh, this was definitely on par with the big boys out there.
Salads
- Roasted Beet - The Beet mousse was intriguing but the salad was just okay, not worth the 10 bucks.
- Caesar "Cardini Style" - Basically no Anchovy. Unfortunately, this also makes for a very boring salad
Entree
- Prime Rib. Talk about a thick cut! I probably would have been fine with the small cut. The one thing that was definitely a negative was the creamed horseradish. Completely vapid of all of all sinus POW I was looking for.. They definitely need an option of regular Horseradish sauce.
Nice Yorkshire Pudding, Gordon Ramsay would be proud..or maybe not.
- Special Fillet Mignon (Thai peanut crust) - This was a great dish. Nice amount of spice, sweet, and savory. Cooked to perfection.
Service
- Attentive, but not five star service. I like the relaxing feel to it, I had no complaints but it's not Donovan's level of service. Bread and tea were filled often.
Overall, this is a great place for a casually elegant dinner in Valley Center, perhaps all of north county. I've never been to Peter Lugers in New York, but this is probably in my top....10 of all steak places. They just need to work on the salads and the horseradish. I can live with good (not impeccable) service considering the location.
*Aged premium steaks ( Didn't say PRIME??).
FOOD: 5 (Oh SO Good!!
The warm selection of bread & the slightly melted butter w/ a hint of herbs-i'd give it 5 stars with that alone! *Ordered, Oysters to start and the Miso plate, then the twin lobster tails, NY Steak and Jalapeno Potates Au Gratin)
SERVICE: 5! Everyone was so polite, friendly, and attended to our needs/wants without being overbearing.
AMBIENCE: 4 (I have to knock off a star here. It is located in a casino and for all the greatness this restaurant provides, you wouldn't be able to tell just from peaking in.)
PRICE: 5 (the quality, taste, and overall service makes the price worth every penny)
Went here for our 2 year anniversary and it turned out to be just an okay steakhouse. I got the special which was the cowboy steak and my wife had the filet an both were average compared to some of the places we have eaten before.this place us kinda far from temecula about an hour.service could have been better but overall this is an average steak house
Review Source:My husband and I went up with another couple to take advantage of the free buffet, but it was sold out, so we went to Black & Blue instead. Â And I'm so glad that we did! Â We ordered a bottle of wine (the cheapest on the list at $19), and it was delicious. Â Everything was so good! Â We started with hummus and olives, two favorites of mine.
I ordered the 7 ounce filet mignon, medium, and it was like butter--so smooth and perfect. Â Omygosh! Â And we ordered some sides, mashed potatoes and blue mac and cheese. Â The blue cheese was so good.
Do yourself a favor and go for a great meal here. Â It is definitely pricey, but they let us use our free buffet value of $25 per person, which brought our bill down to $100 for 4. Â Not bad at all! Â Can't wait till our next trip.
Yummmmmmmmmmmy! Â I am so excited to go back to the B&B steak house! Â We drove up for the free buffet they offer with the players card but it was sold out for the night. Â Lucky us, Â we ended up in the bar waiting for our 10:30 reservation and opted to just order appetizers from the bar. Â Those were not "just" appetizers.
We drank ate and had a blast with the crowd! Â The $25.00 the casino issued with the players card paid for 2 apps. each and we sported the cash for the drinks. Â The sliders and shrimp were recommended from the front desk and were exceptional! Â Also ordered the Chicken, steak sandwich, potato soup (not loved) and hot chocolate molten cake.
I don't think you can order wrong! Â Â We wondered out to the casino and not overly impressed found our way back to the bar. Â We will be back and it will be tough to choose between eating at the Steak house or just do the" bar thing" again!!
This place is absolutely five-plus stars. I mean, better than The Prado, better than Mr. A's, better than Mille Fluer!
While it is a damn long drive from anything in San Diego, you will not regret the schlep once you sit down. Located inside the "ehh" Valley View Casino, this place is as classy as it gets without being downright pretentious. The service, ambiance and food are all way above par... and did I mention the food?
Yeah, every morsel on every plate was devoured... from the incredible warm bread and almost-melted butter to the nuts and olives they start you off with to the huge tasty cowboy steak with onions my husband had to my orgasmic paremesan crusted halibut... holy hell, this place is golden!
And yes, the iced tea with a tiny caraffe of fresh squeezed lemon juice and another caraffe of sugar cane syrup, served in a big wine glass with iced tea ice cubes (so as not to disturb the concoction you have created when the ice begins to melt, of course!) and a glass stirrer... my God.
Worth every penny (about $100 for two of us with no alcohol, but two salads, two entrees an iced tea and a soda and tip) and we will be back again soon.
If it's the last thing I do, I'll be back, Black and Blue!
