Slow, low key dive by weekday.. Packed, trendy venue by weekend. Both have their ups and downs.. Pretty standard bar for the west coast. What stood out to me at the blue spark was the bar master's generous pour of Glen Livits 15 into my ever empty glass for a mere 7 dollars American. Needless to say I didn't even explore the beer selection. I would definitely visit again.
Review Source:The nasty, elderly, irritable, trout-faced, wheezing, bleached-headed, miscreant that runs this place deserves to live a better life, someplace else, where she can get drunk for free and NOT interact with her customers in a bar trying to relax and have a good time. We don't care who's boss you are or why you're there. You have a job, clap, clap, so does the guy that stares into people's assholes at the border crossings, an activity I can't imagine being any less painful than hanging out in this dump.
Review Source:The worst service ever...if you are a person of color. Â Racism is not as rampant in Seattle, but alive and well in Spokane, I felt like a was in a time warp and MLK was gonna bust out in protest and march. Â I have never waited at the bar as long for a drink with cash in hand. Â I had my order ready, leaned over with cash in hand, and looking alert so it was very obvious I wanted to order. Â White people with credit cards were systematically getting served before me.
Review Source:It was ok. Â Thats about it. Â Went on band night and it was horrible. Â Small space with a way to loud band. Â
When I first read about the place I thought I would love it. Â Multiple beers on tap, etc. Â Got there and they had limited on tap. Â Green beer and American beers...just the standards.
This place has gone down hill over the years! The bartenders have become lackadaisical and surly. There is no service to be had anymore, and they only take orders at the bar. The transition from the awesomeness it once was might be from the overflow of douchbaggery from the surrounding bars. Maybe their new found surliness is the after effect of dealing with such people... sad! This place is fallen from what it once was, and all you have now is overpriced, no-service, loud, douchebag catcher. If you want to keep the memories of what once was... stay away!
Review Source:Trivia on Mondays, something else or other going on every other night. Â Sometimes there's a cover, and I heard it's a hit or miss sort of place. Â Last night was a hit...a hit for old lesbians. Â They were all over they younger ladies, it put the men that were prowling to shame, lol. Â
There's space for dancing, a pretty big bar, lots of space to sit, tvs for ESPN updates, and a wide variety of booze to make any concoction one's heart desires. Â We had hokey pokeys. Â So delish! Â It had blended strawberry puree which made it refreshing and different from the vast amount of girly drinks I consume.
Find parking on the street and walk.
Oh Blue Spark...
You were my downtown bar of choice for so long when I lived in Spokane, im so glad to see that little has changed since I left.
Your decor is still covered in band tour posters, your clientele still mixed and interesting, and your bar-tenders quick with decent pours. Your selection of taps are still excellent, I usually have to have at least 2 pints to taste what I want or make sacrifices as needed. And your prices (ones that ~I~ drink anyway) are fair. Centrally located, you make a great pit-stop or meeting place when having shenanigans downtown.
It was nice seeing you again Blue Spark, when I come back out this way i'll be sure to visit again.
I stopped in Blue Spark while hopping around before a show at the Knitting Factory. Â First off, great location, if you are headed where I was! Â Next thought, great beer selection and sweet atmosphere. Â It wasn't crazy busy, and the people that were there were friendly and chatty (many headed to the same show-so, I'm not the only one that thinks it's on-the-way!). Â Bartender was nice and appropriately attentive. Â I'll be a return customer.
Review Source:Boy I miss me some Blue Spark. This is a solid place to get some drinks and hang out with your friends. The bartenders were great guys (at least when I lived in Spokane) and the owner was a kick in the pants. Its within walking distance to some other of the good places in Spokane. Can get a little crowded, but that can be manageable.
Review Source:Not bad at all, I don't get the hate. Fast, cool bartenders with a good beer selection, and the night I was there it managed to be both open mic and purty good. Was a bunch of cool people there to BS with. Â
It's not somewhere I would fall over myself to get to but it was decent enough to return to.
Been a couple of times since my last review. Only a couple of bartenders for a decent amount of people leads to really, really long waits for booze.
Also I've noticed that the type of people that gravitate here may not be my crowd (I'm not sure how important that is as far as reviews go). A little too "college town bar" for me I guess..
HOLY SHITBALLZ!
DO NOT set foot in here after dark on a Friday or Saturday night. Â The mix of weekend conditions and lack of sunlight transforms this bar from an average Joe to a voracious Stella-swilling werewolf named Chad!
At these times Blue Spark morphs into ground-zero of Bro-dom in Spokane. Â It's packed to the walls with greek life, good luck getting a drink. Â If you're into getting rubbed down by sweaty guys with jeans, overly gelled hair, and collared-shirts, BE MY GUEST!
I am still exploring the bar scene in Spokane and went to Blue Spark with a group of friends. Â The place was packed which I was excited about until I realized that it was a super cliquey crowd. Â The bartenders practically ignored us and it took an extraordinarily long time to get our drinks (way longer than the usual "busy night wait" which is understandable). Â I was excited about their selection of shots too. Â But unfortunately, will not be back.
Review Source:If for some reason I was forced to live in Spokane, I could see myself coming to Blue Spark again. The crowd was a bit young and trashed post - Super Bowl Sunday, but the place had a cool vibe. Nice layout and all the cool posters could keep me occupied for hours. The bartender didn't even flinch when we rolled in with like 15 people, most of em mean lookin biker dudes with neck tattoos! Â Our local hosts love "Kill the Keg."
Review Source:What an excellent bar!! Â Spokane is really coming up, in terms of developing the downtown area. Â Blue Spark certainly embodies the new vibe, with it's welcoming atmosphere. Â Vintage concert posters cover the walls (I couldn't stop pointing and coveting them!). Â The bar is nicely illuminated, with plenty of stool seating. Â The music was hip and casual. Â Drinks were stiff, but well made, and reasonably priced ($8.50 for a pint and a cocktail). Â The long list of shots above the bar is seriously appealing. Â If I'd had no reason to remain sober, I would have definitely had a few.
Our bartender, Jules, was extremely friendly. Â After asking her for recommendations for other bars and breakfast joints, she actually took the time to make us a lengthy list. Â Then she offered to buy us shots at her next bartending gig later that night! Â Talk about your welcome party. Â We'll make this stop every time we're in town!
One of my all time favorite bars in Spokane! Â Their slogan is "No Crap On Tap" and this is mostly true except they are know to occasionally use one of their 24 taps on one of the generic American beers but oh well. Â The other 23 taps host some of the best beers from all around the globe. Â Domestic Micro's, Lights, Ambers, Porters, Ciders, you name it. Â Also they have some of the best bar tenders, one of them (can't remember his name) has been voted a number of times as Spokane's best by the Inlander. Â
Every Tuesday the host a trivia night where you can win prizes and such which is a lot of fun. Â They will often have Live music other nights. Â Sundays they "Kill the Keg" where the have $1 pints on whatever kegs they are "killing" until it is gone.
If you just want a place to hangout and chill with some friends the Blue Spark is definitely the place.
This place has grown on me over time. It could be that it is relatively less posh as the rest of Spokane has been built up. It could be because it has settled into its groove and knows what type of bar it is and isn't trying to set the bar as the hip place in town... then again it could be that it I am selling out.
