Nathans grilled hotdogs with a mind boggling variety of delicious toppings, topped off with great service and homemade to-die-for desserts makes this a find worth coming back to on our next trip! Â This charming mom and pop hotdog/sandwich shop hit just the right spot for lunch. Â They have vegan and gluten-free options and daily changing homemade soups. Â We loved it! Â Aldo, if you go they are open 11am-7pm Tues-Sat. Â Closed on Sun and Mon. Â We had a little trouble finding them, as Jefferson Hwy is also West Main. Â Glad we found it. Â Will definitely go back.
Review Source:I have family in the Waynesboro area, and we visit them a few times per year. Â We always make it a point to get a Boardwalk dog because they are a pretty quick and cheap way to get a quality lunch when you are out-and-about. Â Let's break it down:
The food: There is a pretty wide selection of toppings to go with the Nathan's dogs (which I think are the bigger variety, not your standard hot dog for sure). Â There seems to be a set menu, and some rotating specials for the time of year. The Elvis/Memphis is a go-to favorite, the saltiness of the hot dog and bacon are perfectly set off by the sweetness of the peanut butter, which gets a little melty for a creamy texture that is pretty unique. Â My personal all-time favorite is the Thanksgiving Plymouth Rock (stuffing, brown gravy, cranberry sauce). Â Again, you get that tart/sweet/salty balance just right with the cranberries and the high-quality dog. Â If you don't like the "presets" you can always customize your own toppings, and there are tons to pick from.
They also have soups and sandwiches, but with dogs that good I haven't really strayed off the tried and true.
They also have REAL italian ice, not that knock-off stuff. Â Served in the squishy paper cups so you get every last drop of flavor. Â
The Service: Â This is a true "mom-and-pop" establishment. Â Jane and Steve remember you after only a few visits, and are nothing but super-friendly. Â I don't even think they have employees because I've never seen any one else working. Â Food is up pretty quick. Â You sit in a simple-but-cheery dining area decorated to be like the boardwalk.
The Prices: Â Pretty reasonable. Â Slightly more than you might expect for a hot dog, but the dogs are definitely bigger than your standard dog. Â The toppings are also higher quality (things like guac, mac n cheese, etc. more than ketchup, mustard, and onions). Â The buns are also much more substantial than your typical squishy wonder bread buns. Â One dog is definitely enough unless you are super hungry. Â One person can definitely get out of here with an interesting lunch for under $8.
Would definitely recommend, definitely will be going back.
