What a great place! The couple that own it are very friendly former St Louisans who enjoy what they are doing. You walk in the place and you are taken back to days gone by with all the kitchy decor and memorabilia.  Great Burgers and Fries. No beer... hence the name "Dry Saloon".

    You'll love it.

My husband and I were up in the area for the first time on Memorial Day.  There wasn't much open or going on in Louisiana so we drove back through Clarksville as we slowly headed toward home.  We were so fortunate to find Bove's Dry Saloon OPEN!

I had seen their open sign when we coasted through the first time, but I was expecting it to be a bar until I realized what the place's name was.  At least we weren't looking for ice cold beer this early in the evening.  I was feeling a little ill from the heat because we had to ride on 270 & 70 earlier in the day with no air conditioning.  I felt SO much better after sucking down a couple of big ice waters and getting some food in my stomach.

I am a strict vegetarian so there weren't too many choices for me, but it was expected.  Their green salad is decent compared to most.  It was made of iceberg lettuce, of which I am not a huge fan, but it was topped with plenty of onion, green pepper, tomato, and black olives so I was happy!  I just filled up on the veggies and left about half of the iceberg.  The only downside, which was a little strange, was that they only have two kinds of salad dressing- ranch and blue cheese, so if you want anything else you're kind of S. O. L.  I was so hungry though that I didn't really care, just thought it was peculiar.  I also had their homemade fries.  They were a little dark in color and not crispy at all, but pretty decent.  I know my husband likes his fries softer than I do any way so I think he enjoyed them a lot.  He had the Philly cheese steak sandwich and loved it.  And he doesn't even usually like cheese AT ALL.

We had very good service.  The hot food took a bit, but you know it's made to order that way.  Our server was very attentive and my glass never went empty.  She also answered our questions about the area and even gave us a local newspaper.  The atmosphere is eclectic with mismatched furniture, postcards, an old Mr. Peanut nut cracker, etc.  It was dark (the way I like it) and cozy.  The place is up on a hill so there is a view of the Mississippi between the buildings across the street.  A little hard to see with the blinds drawn, but I am sure it stays cooler in there that way.

They seem to be known for their sandwiches, burgers and pizzas.  It was relatively busy awhile after we got there.  And it seems to have regulars that come back again and again.  The only thing I would warn you about is the broken toilet seat in the restroom.  Be careful not to fall in, ladies!  Overall, I would say that while Bove's Dry Saloon could probably stand a few tweaks to upgrade things a bit, it was a great place.  We would definitely return!  (Especially since it seemed to be the only place open among the several towns we drove through that day!)
