Out of all the clips of Omaha DDD that I watched, this one seemed like it'd be the most legit, and actually, considering I only had 2 DDD joints here, this was definitely the better one. I wasn't particularly in the sandwich or deli mood, but I was being zealous on my first day to tackle the DDD joints, so I went here for lunch.
OLD FASHIONED SANDWICH
it's basically a big brisket sandwich. It looks like pastrami (color and everything), and I thought I may have ordered wrong, but no, it was definitely brisket. The rye bread (I've heard Jewish Rye) is not toasted, but I'm not entirely sure it had to be.
So, with no expectations, I took my first bite. I was actually pretty impressed at how soft and juicy the brisket was. The rye bread and mustard lend their flavors, and then quickly bowed out, which is what I want from the bread/bun in any sandwich. The brisket was actually very juicy, but at the same time, it was clean! The sandwich didn't fall apart in my hand or anything, but was very well behaved. The brisket also tasted buttery, and was probably the best brisket I've ever had. Take that with a grain of salt, because I hate brisket, and this was the first that I thought was decent. The texture was different than other brisket I've had, but I don't think I've ever had it in a sandwich before. All in all, very solid!
GOOD OL FASHIONED
For what it is, the sandwich was good, The place looks more like an old bar than a "sports bar." They say that they have a ton of TVs for sports, but you could've fooled me. It looks a bit antiquated, like 80's antiquated and I didn't really see any screens for projectors, so not exactly sure how fun watching the game is here...Nebraska doesn't have "the game" other than College games. All in all, it's a decent spot, don't expect to be blown away or anything, but it's a solid place for lunch.
Walked here cause it was convenient since I was staying around corner at Holiday Inn. I should have trusted the reviews more and drove somewhere better.
I ordered the lamb burger which was actually pretty good, but the fries I got with it (garlic fries) were horrible. Drenched in grease and soggy.
Good thing beers were on special, cause i definitely had time to drink while I waited for the 1 waitress to serve pretty much everyone in half of the establishment.
Apparently this got good reviews on DDD, apparently this is the "dive".
Found it funny they had a cheesy Sacramento burger, they must have nabbed that idea from squeeze inn in Sacramento. (also featured on DDD)
