The most "authentic" Wisconsin bar experience you'll find in Lake Nebagamon. Friendly but unpretentious bartenders, a pool table and shuffleboard table, occasional karaoke and CHEAP BEER.
We ordered a New Glarus Spotted Cow on tap, and it tasted funky and flat. I had to give it to the bartender, who when we tried to nicely mention the issue just said, "Oh, well, I don't drink it." Exactly.
Anyway, we switched to Miller Lite, which was served in frosty mugs and I think were $1.50. We stopped by a few times over the course of a weekend, played the jukebox (digital), and chatted with other patrons.
The place is second-generation family-owned, and features a lot of old newspaper clippings, photos and such on the walls. The owner and his father were both avid beer memorabilia collectors and there is a ton of awesome lighted signs and the such displayed around the place.
located in the northernmost tip of wisconsin lies a beautiful place called lake nebagamon.... although i grew up in Cali, my parents (both from wisconsin) sent me here every single summer to stay with relatives till i turned 13 and became "way too cool" for wisonsin. till this day, nothing has changed here but the seasons. its unspoiled, unpretentious, serene and perfect for long summer days filled with jet skis, canoes, fishing excursions, swimming or picking rasberries in the forrest.... my parents own a cabin right on the east shore of the lake and the only real complaint is the high mosquito factor. otherwise being here is pure pleasure. Since Bridges Tavern is the only tavern in town, so that's pretty much "it" for night life. On a Friday or Saturday you'lll find it packed and they ususally have a live band.... everyone will be drinking beer and watching time slip away as the sun sets over the lake. this is the one of the few places in the world i get really nostalgic thinking about it. so many family memories.... if i ever wanted to really disappear from the world, this is probably the place I would go.
