get on the mailing list & you'll get free tickets pretty frequently - but be prepared for a 2 drink minimum per person...overall not a bad place, somewhat tight seating & pricey drinks but friendly service & decent acts on the free nights, better known acts will cost you per ticket in addition to the drink requirement
Review Source:I was ripped off at the door since I decided to buy my tickets at the door instead of online. I thought I would save the conv. fees but I was wrong. They charged me $5 each ticket as a door fee. It was horrible. They shouldnt charge fees at the door wtf?? I didnt want to make a scene so I paid for it.
The food was ok. I was there for a comedy show of course. The place is small cozy and the lights are too dim like its a club but anyway.
2 drink minimum which was fine.
At the end of the show I asked for the check and guess what they rip you off again. 20% gratuity for 2 people???/really? those idiots have done it again!!! how about if the service sucked and you didnt like the waiter and food then what?? do I still have to pay the 20%.
2 people around $150 food, drinks and tickets..
1st and last time!! place is a rip off
This is one of the only remaining comedy clubs left, especially on the island. They usually bring in local comics but sometimes feature headliners and I always have a good time with friends here. It's small enough to feel like you're in the middle of the action but if you want to not be the butt of a joke you can sit in a corner table or further away from the stage.
The food and drinks are okay but that's not really the point of going. Â It's just a cool way to have some laughs with friends and some light bar grub and feel like you're doing something different.
Staff is always friendly and it's good not to have to go into Manhattan to get a laugh or two. Â They could probably use a bit of a "facelift" with the tables and so on but that sort of adds to the appeal somehow.
This comedy club isn't bad. I've been here a few times with my sister and husband for some comedy events. The comedians I saw were hysterical, showing up here for the laughs was worth it for sure.
The plus side is that even with a two drink minimum the bill at the end of the show isn't really all that much, it's fairly reasonable. Also if you sign up for their mailing list you will get a lot of mailings offering you free admission into the club which means all you end up having to pay for is the two drink minimum plus if you want any food. The food I've had there is decent, it's not terrible but not outrageously wonderful.
The down side which is why this place gets three stars despite the excellent comedy. It's packed out as all hell. Every show I've gone to has been crowded and the space is pretty tight. This is just a personal preference I dislike being packed out with other people with barely any room to move around. I like my space and I tend to enjoy a place a little more if there's not so many people around.
Overall I would come back here again for the laughs, they do get excellent comedians in here that will have you laughing the whole night through for sure.
Over the years I have brought a lot of business to the Brokerage (and their other clubs, Governor's and McGuire's) however, our last experience was so bad that I don't think I will be returning unless some changes are made.
The last time my group was there, a table of older women were aggressive and rude to my guests. They were loud and obnoxious, they purposely banged into other people's seats (including that of one friend who had had back surgery!), threw drinks at my friends and threatened them with physical violence. Despite the fact that numerous staff members witnessed this behavior, no one asked these women to behave or to leave. Nothing was done to protect my guests (or those guests around them) and their complaints were basically dismissed. I do not feel that the staff supported us in any way and felt very unsafe.
This is very disappointing and disturbing. Threats of violence and actual physical altercations/assaults are not just annoyances, but crimes. What is the purpose of bouncers/security, if they do not protect paying guests and control the behavior of those being disruptive? If this had been a nightclub, these women would have been thrown out - so why were they not even spoken to? My guests received comp tickets for a future show, however they are apprehensive about EVER returning at all if this is the behavior they can expect from the Brokerage's patrons and the poor level of service they can expect from the Brokerage's staff. (Also these "comp" tickets weren't actually complimentary. They include a $5 "service fee" at the door, in addition to the usual 2-drink minimum. That's hardly going to make up for such a terrible experience.)
I don't know if it is their official policy to ignore this kind of behavior and condone physical threats and assaults... or is this was just gross negligence on behalf of the staff that was scheduled to work that evening. Regardless, it was unacceptable and I will not be returning unless I'm assured that it will not happen again.
i happen to be there on a night that was a benefit. Â the comedians lined up were AWESOME. Â There were 7 of them and I'd pay even more to see them, very funny. Â The establishment itself is nice - they cram you in, but they are in the business of making money I wasn't thrilled with sitting on top of strangers. Â The menu left alot to be desired - all fried stuff with a cheese platter and thrown in to look healthy I guess. Again, we're not there for a meal. Â Drinks were good, waitresses attentive, no complaints... Â except for the following: NO PARKING. there is a parking lot that holds about 12 cars. Â they have a valet, but about 45 min BEFORE showtime he dragged his sign away, valet parking was filled too. Â I parked about 1 block away, my companions weren't so lucky. I DID watch the valet sideswipe a chainlink fence with someone's shiny new while BMW SUV. Â (I left a note), Â Would I return? Maybe if someone ELSE was driving.
Review Source:I Went once. Â Myspace had a Free secret showing of Adam Ferrara.
It was a fantastic night for me and my girlfriend. The place is packed but so is every other comedy club you go to. Â The two openers were funny but what made this night so great is that the lights kept going out so most of the show was spent with the comics standing with Colman camping lanterns and no mic. As you can imagine it made for some great laughs. Â Adam Faerrara was outstanding and cracked on me and my girlfriend for a good 15 20min and even called his wife to tell her about me and her and our line of work. At the end of the night he signed posters and took pictures with everyone. He was on stage well over what the limit was and kept it rolling with a ton of laughs.
I will come back. Â 2 drink min is retarded but the show was free so I cant say much. Food was "okay". Drinks kind of lame.
A full house for Mr Oumarou!
Came here to be entertained by my comedian husband and a troupe of newcomers to comedy. Â They do this "Stand-up University" which is impressive - in only 5 weeks, they put together a very funny show for 1/2 the cost of admission on a regular night!
We were able to fit our group over two really dirty tables...good thing it was dark because I didn't even want to know what was under the stained paper place mats! Â There's a two drink minimum (very watered down drinks) and absolutely no reason to order food (Even the host kept saying "we'll all go to a diner and do cocaine after")(cocaine?). Â We had things like spinach dip, calamari, and jalapeno poppers which were served cold.
But we weren't there for the food anyhow - we laughed our a's off and became comedians ourselves when observing the service and crowd. Â It was a fun-filled night and I will definitely go back for more shows! Admission is actually free when you sign up for their mailing list!
Been here several times over the years with friends, I've never had a problem ...always a good night! Â Went again this week for a fundraising event. Keith Anthony (never heard of him before) was one of the comics. He was so funny ...laughed so hard that I felt like I had an awesome abs workout! Â Found out he's going to be there again Feb 5....thinking of going back....I don't even care if I listen to the same set again!!
Only had the appetizers (not dinner), the apps were good and not greasy. The drinks are strong, and the comics are consistently hilarious (well maybe 5 out of 6 were good...sorry). If you sign the mailing list, they mail you free tickets every now & then. Â You just have to pay for the 2 drink minimum.
Con: parking lot is too small, have to find a spot on the street.
Comedy Club.
I was sitting on my couch all cozy in my drawers watching something on National Geographic when some friends called me to come along to some Girl Scout fundraiser at this comedy club.
I haven't been to a comedy place in a long time, mostly because I crack myself up for less than the 2 drink minimum... Â but I have to say I had a blast here.
The performers on the bill were funny, they had me rolling. Â The food offerings were solid if nothing spectacular. Â The drinks were surprisingly decent - so all in all I'm glad I got up and went.
Bathrooms were clean and pretty good sized.
I'd go again.
Huge parking out front.
We go when we get free admission tickets. Â Usually a 2 drink minimum, so you get out of there with a $40 bill.
The acts have been really bad to roll on the floor hysterical and everything in-between.
It's been redone since the new owners have taken over so it's a much nicer place to be attend.
Growing up in Bellmore it was nice to have this place being local; but I couldn't go until I was 18. Â As the years have gone by I've gone quite a few times and seen some of the greats; who never seemed as great as the guy that would open for them. But I still always had a blast and take a lot of pride in the home town spots. Â These are the same owners as the more popular Governors comedy club. At least someone still runs comedy clubs in Long Island. Â You end up spending a pretty enough penny but that's what a night of entertainment usually means.
Review Source:I agree with what the previous Yelper stated, Â I prefer this club over any other local club anyday. Â The ones in the city are too expensive and are just annoying. Â Brokerage is warm and cozy and based on the overall small size of the venue, any seat is a good seat. Â I like the Vaudeville theme they have going on. Â If you print out the coupon on the website, it's FREE admission - all you need to do is abide by the "2 drink minimum" rule (which, trust me, is no problem) and it's a cheap, good time. Â Â We went this past Thanksgiving Eve and saw Joe Starr, Chris Monty and god I wish I could remember the 3rd guy, because he was the best. Â I was peeing my pants the entire time and my abs hurt the next day. Â Much better than a lot of high profile acts I've seen at Carolines or Gotham. Â This was my first time at Brokerage, but definitely not my last.
