We stopped by Buckets on our way back to Anchorage because their sign promised lots of game and seafood. We were not disappointed. I tried an elk burger with bacon, and it was great! The meat was well cooked, a little sweet and smokey, and pretty hearty. Also, the burger was enormous and my order of seasoned fries was, too. I tried some of my friend's halibut sandwich, which was also great.

Good burgers cooked to order. Great house salad. Decent clam chowder. Great service at lunchtime on a summer Thurs.

Great breakfast for the fishing crowd. High marks for the giant biscuits.

Frankly, if I could I would give this place negative stars.
Came here for dinner at 8:12 and took like 5 minutes to get a sit for a party of six. The waitress was nice and pretty helpful and took our order rather quickly. That's the last point when i was enjoying my dinner. We say on a dirty floor and when I asked to get someone to clean it no one came. Our appetizer came about an hour after we sat down and the food took so long we started timing it, it ended up coming at 10:03. When it finally came I took a look at the 8 oz. halibut I ordered and it took about a second to figure out that it's closer to 4 oz. I called the manager and told him that this is unacceptable, He promised me it's an 8 oz. fish. We took a scale and it measured at exactly 4.5 oz. (even the manager was shocked). needless to say I didn't pay for it and left the restaurant as quickly as I could. The burgers were actually pretty good but after waiting for 2 hours I really couldn't care less.
Conclusion: could have been avoided if I had read the yelp reviews ahead of time. I will never come here again if they paid me.

The menu is a complete mess. So many things just crammed together with thumbnail photos thrown in for good measure. It was difficult to even read what the options were.

I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with teriyaki sauce. It came out drowning in sauce and disgusting fake cheese. You know, the kind that has to say "cheese product" on the label because there isn't anything real about it?

After scraping as much of the cheese product off as a I could I asked the waitress for some lettuce and tomato, which I thought came with the sandwich. After a while she came back with the lettuce and tomato on side plates.

It wasn't until I got my check that I realized that she had charged me $.75 for the tomato and $.75 for a single piece of lettuce. Are you kidding me? I would have raised a stink, but it was worth $1.50 for me to just get out of there and never come back!

Looking back on their menu online, the chicken sandwich does list lettuce and tomato as coming with it. Just avoid this place if possible. Dairy Queen has better food and better prices.

We stopped in there for a bite to eat on our way to Homer. I had the spicy crispy chicken sandwich, another ordered a burger and another ordered the chili dog. We thought we would still have room for dinner that night but the portions were so huge at Buckets we weren't hungry later. The chicken sandwich was really, really good. The burger got rave reviews and the chili dog also. The chili dog was HUGE! Service was good and timely and food tasted freshly cooked, not sitting there cooked in advance. Recommend this place. If I lived in Soldotna, I'd be a frequent guest.

The halibut dinner with 2 sides was excellent and big enough to share, especially if you get the yummy clam chowder. Our waiter was so much fun and did a great job, they even split the chowder so my hubby didn't eat it all.

Stopped in today for a bite before hitting the road to go home.  I've been here once before and it was alright, so we thought we'd try it again.  Bad idea.  The service was dismal and the food atrocious.  We waited nearly 45 minutes after ordering for our burgers and Costco Mickey Mouse chicken nuggets to show up.  The waitress filled our drinks once.  I watched as one of the kids' plates sat under the warmer for nearly 10 minutes--with a side of ranch.  Yuck.  Most of the group had burgers or chicken nuggets, which were mediocre.  The outrage was the $11.99 low carb "steak" that I ordered--it was miniscule!  I asked for rare, they give it to me well done, and it tasted slightly rancid.  The portion size was correct for those of us counting calories or on Weight Watchers, but it only came with a sliced tomato.  Definitely not worth almost $12!  The waitress only gave us a weak "sorry it took so long" as she was handing us our bill.  When we asked her to split it, she looked annoyed.  So, needless to say, we left her with less than 10% gratuity.  As we were waiting for our party near the front door, I watched as our waitress was showing our receipts to another waitress and looking dour.  Next time I'll spend my money at McDonald's.  Half the price and better service by far.

The service is fast, the food is good, and the prices are affordable. I'll happily stop in again.  I had the Bucket Burger.  It's a nice size and the fixings were just right.  In my opinion too many places over do the onions.  They had it just right.

Second time here, still nothing over the top. The 1/2 burgers are the thing to get if your starving after a long day outside. For me though I got cheese steak sandwich which was pretty filling but nothing to write home about. Found there menu confusing as everything is everywhere and its doesn't have a good flow, not a big problem might be for people in a rush since it does get busy, but hey that's just my opinion. Three stars since I left full and happy would of been 3.5 but our drinks took forever to get refilled. Ill be back with an update after this winter storm, enjoy!

I guess this was okay. I will have to give it another shot.

I ordered a bowl of clam chowder for $6.99, that was tasty and pretty filling on it's own. For a couple more dollars I could have ordered a side of cheese bread. My friend ordered the 1/2 pound bucket burger with cheese and bacon for about $15, and came with really tasty fries. I liked my soup, and anything else would have been too heavy for me at the time, but there were a lot of tasty looking options. Like, instead of a straight out beef burger you could have ordered buffalo, elk, caribou, or veggie. Strangely the outside of the joint looked nicer than the inside, and some of the tables were crumby and dirty and there were only a couple of people inside.

Just clean them and people won't complain about the dirtyness of the place.

Great staff & local beers make up for average food.  7 tvs with individual speakers make Buckets the best place to be on game day.

This place is fine if you are in a pinch. The best part was they had sweet potato fries. The worst was the dressing came out of a bottle and most the food was fried. The clam chowder was horrible!  It was crowed and the service was excellent.

Great wait staff. Ask for Claire. Love the sweet potato fries with cinnamon butter, skip the "cheese" bread.

Spent 3 out of 5 nights in Soldotna at Buckets! Went on 3 King Salmon charters and got shut out....I bought a Buckets bandanna and went on one more charter and caught a trophy King with the Salmon Herder! Miss Ashley took care of us and did a great job! Self made team Buckets will be back!

Food is ok, but the place is really small, it's very hard to get your own table and it is dirty!  I do love there fries though!!  And the food is served in buckets and you can watch the games at the same time! In Soldotna, really this is the only redressing sports bar there is here.

I hit the road this summer, and was just out to enjoy Alaska and drive, and stay in my trailer....when I hit Soldotna, I knew I had bypassed this place once before, so I stopped this time. It was crowded which is good, obvious alot of "out-of staters", but again this is good...had the burger, a salad, and several refills not charged....I was most impressed by the staff and the food was really enjoyable...if you are out this way...stop in...well worth it...

Truthfully, this place is about 2.5 stars.  The food is ok, not outstanding, but the service brings it up a notch.  While in Alaska for a while, I didn't hit too many restaurants simply because (1) there are not that many where we were staying, (2) we rented a cabin so remote that just to get to the main strip (Sterling Highway) took about 30 minutes, (3) we were catching much of what we were eating each day (salmon, trout, etc.) and, (4) we would go to the grocery store (Fred Meyer) and buy most of the food and prepare it ourselves.

All that said, we did stop by this place and found it's your typical bar-type food.  Hamburgers, fried fish, etc.  It is decent food, at a fair to mid price, with good service which makes it a little better.  There are not many options of places to eat out in Soldotna/Kenai, and this is a good/decent place if you're in the mood for standard bar/pub fare.

One unique thing they have here, that I hadn't seen before, is little remote/box devices which allow you to hear/select the audio for the many televisions in the place (all set to a different channel).  You can choose which audio you want to hear at your table.  While I can imagine this would result in maddening-cacophony during peak hours, during the late-lunch we had there, the restaurant was fairly quiet.

Again, not bad, but not the greatest.  A good option among few.

I've been there on several occasions and was always served really  good food, however, it just seems a little dirty to me (sticky table tops and crumbs all over the floor). And twice I had dried food on my water glass.

Single Ladies... This is a great place to eat with a girlfriend on a Saturday just to see what type of men come through the door. I have to say, my friend and I were the only women in the place other then the hired help.  The restaurant is small, but roomy with large windows that really bring the light in.  The chairs are comfy and the waitress we had was nice.  I ordered the french dip but couldn't decide on fries or salad so I asked for a side salad. Had I read the menu where it says "side salad or fries $5.99", I certainly wouldn't have ordered it.
Anyway, the food was very very good. It was relatively quick from the time we ordered to the time we received it.  My daughter had a nachos plate off the kids menu and it looked like an adult portion of nachos.
I would definitely visit this place again when in Soldotna, AK.
