The good always first: on our way in to our campsite in Bass Lake, we stopped for lunch at Buckhorns. Had pleasant service and they let us sit outside on the patio with our dogs. (Too hot to leave in our truck). The food was decent enough for bar food. We noticed the pool tables inside and the laid back atmosphere (a welcome contrast to Orange County CA) and decided we liked it.
After several bear raids at our Bass Lake campsite, we decided to forgo cooking anything a bear might want- and headed back out to Buckhorns for dinner. The  closest town aside from North Fork -Oakhurst- is your average cookie-cutter chain-restaurant town and we didn't want to go somewhere we could go in our city. I checked Buckhorns website- and it said they served food until 8pm and the bar is open until 1am. We arrived at 7:40 pm- not a minute later. The waitress (different from our lunch waitress) said they weren't serving food anymore. I said "that's odd"- I thought you served until 8pm. She snickered and pointed at their clock "It says 8:03 on the bar clock and we're on bar time".  I very politely pleaded with her and asked if they could just cook a couple of burgers. There is no other restaurant within 10 miles- and she said no again. On my way out she (sarcastically) said "See ya'll again next year".
So apparently Buckhorn's doesn't want "out of towner" business. Which makes sense - obviously they were SO busy with all 10 "locals" sitting at the bar. (Sarcasm?)
I give it 2 stars since we had a nice enough lunch- but you have a 50/50 chance of actually eating. Oh, and you also have a good chance of the North Fork sheriff pulling you over on your way out. We won't be heading to North Fork ever again- I don't care how many bears come to our campsite.

Upon walking in you could tell is was a super local crowd in the place, but  once we sat down and our $2 draft beers we felt a bit more at home. The huge deer head above our table kept our 20 month old daughter in-line. Very funny. When the food came out it was really delicious! I am now a big fan of their wings and will be going back for more.

The staff  was also wonderful! One of the bartenders had a daughter who had some toys left around the place that they let our daughter play with. Everyone was extremely friendly.

The only thing I could do with out would be the smoke, it wasn't horrible or anything I am just not a fan of smoking. The place is defiantly rough around the edges but worth stopping in.

We ended up having a great time in this local joint and would definitely recommend it to my friends!!

I came here with my husband and inlaws and its an awesome place. The BBQ smelled AMAZING.... but we were about to go BBQ ourselves so we didn't eat. The drinks were quick and cheap and the service was great.

If you are ever driving through its a great watering hole to check out!

Enjoyed a nice lunch with the family here.  Freshly made iced tea, good burger, philly cheese steak, and BLT.  Rustic decor including unusual nick-nacks and hunting souvenirs.

Pitchers of beer cost $10, which I very sincerely enjoy. It's a pretty smoky joint with a very country feel to it--dead animals line the walls (elk, deer, bears...). The owner seems to be a regular (he has a sleeping chair, checks up on the patrons, and wears a cowboy hat). Apparently they also serve breakfast, but at early morning times this place (supposedly!) takes on a more family-oriented nature. On weekends, they clear the tables and there's dancing.

If I didn't have a friend who lived down the street from the place, I don't think I'd ever have set foot in this bar, but hey for $10 a pitcher, I sure could sit here and get pretty drunk...
