I used to live right down the street from this Buddies. Â It's a bit hidden on Lake Lansing near Hagadorn. Â I find this place to be very average. Â I've never been very impressed with the beer, but the food is reasonable. Â Many people enjoy their appetizers in particular. Â
I've had interesting experiences when it comes to frequenting this bar and having an out-of-state ID. Â I had just moved from Ohio and because of the out of state driver's license, they made me provide three forms of ID. Â But they're not consistent with this. Â When a friend of mine came in later with a Wisconsin ID, she only had to provide one form of ID. Â I guess it just depends on the server and how strictly they are enforcing the policy at the time. Â This isn't really a bad thing, it can just be annoying/inconvenient. Â
The one plus about this Buddies is that it is pretty much the only bar in this neighborhood (near Lake Lansing and Hagadorn). Â That's why I would occasionally go. Â But in my opinion there are much better bars if you don't mind traveling a few miles.
Went here for a quick dinner and a draft beer. Â The beer was flat and I could tell they dont keep their beer lines clean. Jimmy's and Roadhouse are better options nearby and don't serve flat beer. Â I told the waitress about the beer and her response was that I drank to much of it for her to take it off the tab. I really didnt want them to bring me another flat beer I just wanted them to try the beer before serving one to someone else. I wont go back.
Review Source:The bar is surrounded by Hot Shot Pest Strips. This type of insect poison  is not to be used in any place inhabited with humans, it literally says that on the labeling. These insect strips are made for barns, empty houses, attics.... Not in a restaurant.  Next time u are in there check them out they r nailed up all around the bar then google them to see how powerful and toxic they really are.  They literally emit a vapor of this toxic chemical. yuck never going back.  No sign of them at the Okemos location.
Review Source:This place is a great casual hangout with decent food. Their appetizers are honestly the best part- the cheesy pretzel bites and nachos and chips & dip are great!
I love places like this where you can show up in sweat pants or a nice outfit and still fell comfortable. And above all, still get some great food and drinks!
I'm glad to see that someone else has reviewed Buddies as Courtney can now attest to what a cool little spot this is. The nachos are huge. I perfer liquid nacho cheese, buddies has melted cheddar cheese on their nachos, but it is not disappointing by any stretch. Daily beer specials, and a decent crowd for a Sunday afternoon make for a great combination.
Review Source:Having worked here as a waitress a few years ago, I can tell you that their nachos are second to none! Great place for a casual beer with friends on the patio. Golf leagues, softball teams and even church groups loved to meet here to share nachos as well as other great sandwiches and dinners. The two Buddies locations are owned individually by sisters who know a thing or two about the restaurant business having come from a family of restaurateurs. Stop in and say hello! The popcorn is on me...
