Bud's Cafe

Came here a few years ago on Mothers' Day and this place was just god awful, I wouldn't give my simple fried fish and hush puppies to a stray dog! But I finally returned to this place only because your choices in Knox City are slim and none when eating out. Well I was pleasantly surprised by the insane improvement in the food here! The Bud Burger was friggin awesome, the "homemade" bun on the burger was what made it. I ordered the onion rings and they were superb! I don't know what the owner did to this place but keep up the good work!!!

During a graduation weekend visit to Knox City, we stopped in at Bud's Cafe for lunch.  Walking in reminded me of growing up in Bastrop, TX before there was even a Walmart there.  Knox City just seems to be one of those kinds of places untouched by modernity- and Bud's Cafe is definitely a prime example of this.

It was a boiling hot almost-summers day when we stepped into the wood-panelled dining room and our server promptly brought us our menus and took our drink orders.  You could tell the place had "regulars" who might come and convene at a certain time of the day.  I think that was part of the atmosphere- the fellow customers.  It was just a nice, quiet place.

We ordered the Catfish Basket and the Steak Fingers Basket- although they had some good looking burgers and steaks on the menus.  My Catfish Basket came with two strips of Catfish, two onion rings, two hushpuppies, and fries.  My companion's Steak Fingers came with 4 fingers, fries, and gravy.  Everything was delicious- and not just because it was fried.  Everything just had that homemade flavor you don't really find in the big city.

The prices were reasonable and the service was friendly.  We'll be back next time we drive into Knox City.

Oh and if you're like me and love quarter machines that dispense bouncy balls or egg-prizes, you'll definitely love how the entryway is full of them.  Bring your quarters.
