We went there for the English breakfast which unfortunately they only serve on the first and third Saturdays of the month before eleven oclock so we decided to do luch instead and it was well worth it. The atmosphere is excellent. The bar is inviting. It really has that pub feel and made me wish I lived nearby so I could walk in a few nights a week and enjoy the craft beer. I had bangers and mash which was rich and delicious. The brown gravy was perfect and to my surprise the sausage was cooked just right. Not an easy thing to do. We will definitely be back!
Review Source:This pub is fantastic! Â The beer selection is top notch and the food is pub fare at it's best. Â
My husband and I have never once been disappointed with the bar, the food or the service. Â We love to sit at the bar and ask the very knowledgable staff our questions on the beer selections of that day.
Did I mention the Casks!?! Â It's like being whisked away to London and plopped into a pub. Â Good fun! Â We love it!
Awesome British pub!! Want a beer or some nosh? Head up to the bar and tell the guys what you want. And that's that.
The turkey burger was Ahh-Mazing! There's something about the onion relish, mayo, arugula, grilled turkey burger and beer bun combo that was enticingly tasty, and I will most likely order that if I ever visit Lititz again in the future. They also had Harpoon on draft which made me a happy little lady :)
The honey chipotle wings were very good too.
Only tiny thing that was a little annoying were the flies in the pub. Other than that, it's a great place :)
A unique & cool pub, for sure! The beer selection is almost always great with new and delicious beers to try. Their food is fantastic as well. The atmosphere is great when the pub isn't crowded, but that is a rarity. More often than not it is shoulder to shoulder and that doesn't make for a nice experience even if you are lucky enough to find a seat. Also losing a star for the cost. It's easy to drop $40-$50 just on dinner & a few beers. Not saying you don't get what you pay for, but there are places around that are just as good, for less out of pocket.
Review Source:Came out first time on a late Friday, sat on the patio on a cool clear night. Jeff was awesome as our waiter, top notch beer selection (always go for the cask selections). Started w/ soup, I had the gumbo (chock full of everything, just enough kick) and she had the house bean and tomato (great herb punch through). Â Then we split a scotch egg, a must have delicacy you will not regret. New on the menu tonight was the beer bread grill sandwich, mine with bacon and pulled chicken hers just chicken. Homemade beer bread topped with apples, cheddar and red onion marmalade - mmmmmm! Â Finished off with the toffee pudding. Like being in London, only closer to home. We'll be back!
Review Source:Bull's Head tavern is by far one of the best pubs in the (York/Lancaster) area. And one of the best attractions in Lititz, PA.
*** BEER ***
First off, the beer selection is quite good. Â It is not the largest (Cobblestone's and the newer Holy Hound in York have larger tap lists), but it is a very decent list. Â What tips it up even better is that they almost always have two "cask ales" on tap. Â That's pretty sweet.
While Bull's Head doesn't do samplers (if they did, I'd probably rate them 6 stars), they do give out small tastes. So you can try one or two before you commit.
Bull's Head has a very nice selection of bottles and a full bar. Including some decent top shelf selections.
Ryan's Bloody Mary is one of the few I've enjoyed, and the only one I've ordered twice. (Can he make me a convert?) Â But that's probably because he uses Siracha sauce instead of Tobasco. Â I order mine triple hot. ;-)
*** FOOD ***
There is a fair bit of interesting food fare here. Â Some very traditional pub items such as Scotch Eggs. And some modern fusion menu items as well. They have some interesting "nachos" that are a regular of mine. Â They're fresh potato chip slices, with bacon, cheese and sour cream. Â Yum...
Some of the food can be a tad bit pricey. So I've mostly tried a selection of appetizers.
*** SERVICE ***
Okay, so here is where I've got to chime in. Â Bull's Head has some excellent bartenders. Â And it's really the first bar I've ever felt like a regular, and felt like there's recognition in that. (BTW, they have a points club that lets you get free stuff too.)
It's got a great atmosphere...and I look forward to their planned future expansion (and hope it doesn't lose it's charm).
*** DOWNSIDES ***
o Located in Lititz, and I'm not. So sadly I can't make it there as often as I'd like. But that's probably a good thing for the wallet.
o Closes at 11pm on weeknights. Can't blame them, but sometimes you wish you could stay out late. Or like tonight, where by the time I leave work, they'd be closed.
o Small, it's not super-small. But it can fill up quickly and finding a seat can be a challenge (hence the planned future expansion).
CONCLUSION
Bull's Head is a charming/hip pub in the Lititz area. It's classy. And if you were going to take a gal out to a bar in Lititz, this is the place to go.
They're also located in conjunction with an old historic hotel. So if you drink to much and don't want to drive, you can probably rent a room. ;-)
I was prepared for a British style pub, but I wasn't wild about how crowded it was on a Saturday afternoon. We wanted to sit and eat, and even when we grabbed some stools, it still wasn't cohesive to eating burgers or a meal, because there were too many people around. We had some calamari that was a little bland and slightly soggy, but was cooked well (not rubbery). The dipping sauce had too many tomatoes in it and it was difficult to dip the calamari it in. The beer selection was great, but I'm not really a beer expert so it wasn't a really big draw for me. I didn't think the bartenders were very friendly. Overall, it was kind of a let down compared to the Yelp reviews.
Review Source:Upon walking into Bulls Head it is a wooden accent feast. Fun beer selection. Nice to sit outside after a stroll around quaint historical lititz. What this bar is doing, they do well, but there is still something missing. I am always a little bored, even amongst wonderful company. Nothing in the area like it, so many locals are found at this spot. Gets really packed in evenings, with not much room to move around. Worth stopping in to try something new.
Review Source:A popular restaurant in Lititz and for good reason. Impeccable service, great drinks and delicious food. (I especially appreciated that I could try one of the specialty beers to see if I liked it before ordering.) A bit on the pricey side, but worth it. The Bulls Head can be quite crowded, especially on weekends, so if you want a table then it's best to make a reservation in advance. The bar scene is friendly and warm and ambiance can't be beat. The Bulls Head is part of the historic General Sutter Inn, which we also stayed at and reviewed separately, and it feels and looks just as historic. As close to authentic British as you'll find in Pennsylvania. Highly recommended.
Review Source:Great place to have a beer with friends. Can generally find something on the tap list but if not, they offer some great bottled beers. Â Not being a "bottle shop" however means the bottles arent cheap. Stick with the taps if you can. Â A little on the small side so it does tend to get packed on the weekend evenings. Â Food is tasty and the portions are very adequate. Â The pub wings are incredible. Â Fried, sauced, grilled, then sauced again!! Â My favorite in the area.
Review Source:I am a big fan!
The ambiance is fantastic - very traditional of an English pub. Â
You order food at the bar and it is brought to you, other than that there is no table service so know this going in. Â It's a great casual environment with terrific food - lots of options, a large menu with a lot of well thought out food combinations (I of course cannot remember them as I write this - so sorry!), the wings are fantastic, as are the salads and burgers. Â
We will e back here, again, and again....
Great British bar with awesome, friendly bartenders. Bulls Head Public House have a good bottle list. Harviestoun Old Engine Oil, is pretty good, if you are into porter.
If you are visiting Lititz from out of town like myself and want to grab a drink, then check out this pub. They are open considerably late for the neighborhood (the kitchen closes at 9 - 9:30pm though).
I Love bulls head!!! It's the best place to get a cold beer and amazing food
I have had the wings, nachos, calamari, pull can chicken, pork sandwich, lamb burger, all amazing but hands down the lambs shepherd's pie is my favorite of all time. you just have to have it if you'r a lamb lover
Great British-style pub. No waiter service so you order at the bar, but you still get great service. The bar selection is wonderful, plenty on tap and tons in bottles. The food is amazing! Be sure to try the beer can chicken, the Cuban, and the shepherd's pie. Everything we've tried has been top-notch.
Review Source:My first and only visit but I'll definitely be back when I'm in Lititz again. Â The menu is extensive, full of delicious seasonal items, and seems to be updated periodically. Â The craft beer menu is just as extensive and full of brews from local, regional, and global locations. Â Get a seat on the patio and you'll definitely have a fun experience and can gaze upon some of the gorgeous local history around the area. Â Check out the men's bathroom, too...there's a particular item that you don't usually find in there!
Review Source:Awesome little pub. Place holds true to a traditional Pub. When you walk in you sit yourself, but the place is small so there isn't to many places to sit. The bar, a couple of high tops and a few tables. Also, a couple of tables outside. Don't worry if the place is packed you can always walk across the connecting hallway to General Sutters.
There isn't any table service so you have go to the bar to order. The only menu is posted on the wall next to he bar. Your food is brought to you and they are great about clearing your table when you are done.
Food was good! I had the fish and chips...awesome and of course don't forget the malt vinegar for the chips! My boyfriend had the bison burger and I must say it was the bet I've ever tasted!
Highly recommended!
The Bull's Head Pub (The Pub, to locals) is dynamite. Lititz has needed a place like this forever. I love everything about The Bull's Head, from its plethora of draft and bottled beers, to the English "pub style" of service (you must go to the bar and order your food - they don't come to your table to take your order). For whatever reason, that style works really well here.
The food is terrific pub food, but since it is part of the General Sutter Inn and restaurant, you can also get the great food from there as well if you want. The atmosphere is, well...pub! Casual, upbeat, bright, and hearty.
In the evenings, especially on weekends, it gets PACKED. If you don't like crowds, you may want to try it during the week, or for lunch.
Their sandwiches and draft beers (from all over the world) are what you want to come here for. Can't be beat for the price.
If there is one negative, it is that there is just not enough room to accommodate the large crowds, and not nearly enough seating. So be prepared to stand shoulder to shoulder with people on those weekend nights. You can always look at that as a way to make new friends!
Had dinner here with a co-worker while traveling for work. I was surprised by the quality of the food. English style pub, had the fish & chips which I would recommend if you're inclined. Good beer list, which I would argue is necessary if you call yourself a pub. Great place to have conversation - for a bar. Nice atmosphere, no TV's - save World Cup time from what I hear, and maybe a little small for a large crowd. I withhold a star for the slow although friendly bar service. Bear in mind you order everything from the bar - no table service.
Review Source:WOW! Â What a find! Â Thanks to Yelp, we happened upon this fantastic little pub en route to Lancaster Brewing Co from Old Forge Brewing Co. Â What a delightful little place! Â
I don't recall the number of beers on tap (8-10, perhaps, 2 of which were cask drawn), but there was a full front and back 8X11 bottled beer list w/quite a few beers that aren't "the norm". Â My husband enjoyed his standby, Green Flash by West Coast Brewing Co, and I thoroughly enjoyed a Lagunitas Sucks (double IPA).
The decor is charming and the waitstaff well attired, yet not fussy, and appeared quite knowledgable. Â The tables clearly stated, in the English pub fashion, there is no table service and to order at the bar (where there is any area blocked off to do just that). Â We did not eat and only had the time to enjoy one quick beer, but this will def become a must stop anytime we are traveling in this direction. Â
I wish we had bars like this at "home"...
Bulls Head Public House or "the pub" as us locals refer to it is great across the board. The beers are always changing and not a single Miller/Coors/Bud on top, ever! They have 14 taps and 2 cask conditioned beers plus a large assortment of bottles. The price for the beers on top are typically around $5.50+/- but they are well worth it. This isn't the type of bar you go to and get hammered by binge drinking. They do have wine and spirits so if you aren't a beer drinker, they have you covered as well.
The food is also great. The pub burger, nachos, fish and chips! Awesome. Scotch egg is a great treat and the sticky toffee pudding is amazing!
The only downside is that it is always packed on the weekends. I'd go far more often if you didn't have to fight the crowd to order a drink and grab a table. I guess that is the downside of having a popular place. It is too bad there are so many beer connoisseurs in Lititz.
If you are from out of town and love beer, this is a MUST stop!
This is a beer geek's heaven. Â The Bull's Head is a beer bar (not a limitation, they have a full bar) with an english pub feel. Â 14 beers on tap, representing a wide variety of styles from American IPA to smoked porter, to weizenbock, and even a flanders red. Â They have 2 beers on cask, an english bitter(aka Real Ale) and an american pale ale served via beer engine, and at the proper temperature in the 50F range. Â Many of the beers on tap were from pennsylvania brewers. Â They also have a 2 page menu of bottled beer. Â All beers are served in proper glassware. Â
The food is meant to represent english pub fare. I had the fish and chips, which was great. My girlfriend had the chicken and leek pie, which looked like an excellent version of an english cottage pie. The service was friendly even though the place was a bit busy on the saturday night we were there.
Also to top it all off, the prices were reasonable. Â An awesome casual place to relax and enjoy a few pints of great craft beer. Â I so wish I lived closer to this place and could be a regular here.
The beer is wonderful, the bartenders are excellent, the food is great, and the atmosphere is a nice change from your typical local bar. Â It is a smaller pub, so Friday and Saturday nights it can be completely full and loud. Â For your first time I would hit it up on a week night when it is a bit calmer. Â I hear there are expansion plans in the works!
Review Source:pub nachos- delightfully fulfilling potato nacho chips and lots o' bacon.
pub burger - great.
beer selection - awesomely beyond english-- lots o' americans
server yourself styleee- enjoyable. your service is only as slow as your next trip to the bar to ask for you next round or your next dish.
great stuff - worth the trip way out west.
Unlike DJ M., I've actually eaten here! Â Just kidding, DJ M. Â I loved your review...
The previous review has all the good background and info, so I'll just tell you about my experience...
The distinctives (at least from my point of view) of the "traditional British Pub" were basically:
- No reservations, just show up and hope there's a table
- No hostess, sit where you like
- No menus, just look up at the chalk board
- No servers, get your refills and food orders at the bar
(side note) I just know there's going to be one of those bitchy restaurant goers to complain about the "horrible service" of this place not knowing it's supposed to be this way; and in actuality it's part of the charm.
Anyway... my clients ordered a sandwich and I ordered the fish and chips. Â We were all very delighted. Â We were there during the busy lunch hour so the food did take a little longer to come out. Â Which was fine, because the atmosphere is very enjoyable. Â
I hope to return quickly on a weekend night to dig into the diverse beer selection. Â I would highly recommend! Â Oh, I did hear it's getting very popular and is always crowded... so if you want the full effect, I may suggest going at an off-peak time, unless you like the big crowds.
Beer lovers unite, the Bulls Head is the alpha and omega, a beer lover's paradise and mark my word soon it will be known as one of the top beer tasting pubs in America. If Marston's doesn't put Lititz on the map then nothing will.
This traditional British Pub has fourteen rotating draughts, two cask engines and eighty+ bottles of beer and they are not all British! You will only find craft beers from England, Belgium and America, no Millers, Coors or Guinness here and they have several fruit ales. The owner Paul has spent much of his life perfecting his knowledge of beer, a little like my good friend Tom R. http://www.yelp.com/user… They serve many tasting sizes here and $5.00 pints.
They are only two months old but the weathered sign hanging outside of the English Pub gives one reason to believe it has been around for many years. The sign was actually rescued from an old pub in England outside of Nottingham, hence the reason for their name.
It is not a very large space and probably seats fifty people, which is well laid out. You feel the old English Pub as you walk in the door and it made me smile...
It was a gorgeous and sunny day and the tall pub doors were wide open to the Public House, which itself was an invitation to check it out. The ceilings are high with tall long tables with stools in the middle of the room, the bar itself is off to the left with a big wall chalkboard featuring the daily food specials and brews. Intimate tables are scattered in front of the window and along the walls. There is a lot of wood going on and tasteful beer decor on the walls. Inside is a door which leads right into the General Sutter's Inn.
We had lunch reservations but I could not help eyeing up the food, golden brown chunks of fried fish and fresh cut shoe string fries, I wanted to pluck one from every plate. If my sister in law had not made the lunch reservations I would have gladly opted to dine here. The chalkboard menu changes daily but you can get a variety of cold and hot sandwiches, like turkey, ham, Reuben's, sausages, a burger and salads plus we can't forget bangers and mash.
They are open seven days and nights per week, opening at 11:00am. A true public house where people can gather over good libations and food to relax, mingle, chat and sort out the world's problems. Now if they only had a wine bar this awesome...
