You kind of have to be lucky to eat here. I've driven by a few times at what would seem to be normal operating hours for a restaurant, but it's sometimes not open. For that reason, I consider eating at Burger Boy something of a crap shoot in terms of hours. In terms of food, it's consistently awesome.
I usually get the double green chile cheeseburger and an iced tea. It's under $10 and really fills you up. On nice weather days, I try to sit outside, but sometimes the counter space is available. Usually this place is kinda busy, so you're jockeying for space, and waiting in line.
Locals love this place, and tourists get drawn in by the old school look of it on the outside. Definitely worth popping into if you time it right and have some hunger.
We stopped here for lunch between visiting Tinkertown and hiking in the Sandias. The prices are reasonable, the selection is good, and major props for carrying gluten-free buns/bread! We all ordered green chile cheeseburgers, mine plain on a GF bun. The meat was nicely cooked, but the chile didn't bring quite the punch I'd hoped for. The fries were pretty good, and the refills of tea came frequently. I won't drive from downtown just to go here, but certainly would return if in the area.
Review Source:Doesn't look like much, but according to our NM friend it is a must visit. Absolutely right - green chili burger was excellent, although our first one was with all the trimmings. Next time I would go with the recommendation below and leave off most of the extras. Well worth the stop - family run and fresh ground beef to boot.
Review Source:It really looks like nothing from the outside, and you pass by a bunch of these kinds of places as you motor around between Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Taos.
But this one's definitely worth stopping at for a really good green-chili cheeseburger. Not the one you get at that lotaburger chain, but a real one with fresh meat you know is fresh because it's right there in front of you.
One tip - don't get it with everything. Ketchup, mustard, tomato, lettuce and pickle kind of drown out the taste of the green chile. Just meat, cheese, and green chile are all you need.
This family owned burger joint / mini diner is an east mountains icon.
The burgers that come off the well seasoned flat top are absolutely perfect (the green chile cheeseburger is one of the best in the state). Â The malts/shakes are hand mixed with real ice cream and the chile (red and green) is on par with the best in New Mexico.
Can't believe I had to add this business to Yelp...this place is well known around here!
Long ago my cousin introduced me to this place...that was at least 15 years ago and I've been coming here ever since. Â Fantastic green chili burgers, lots of fries and when you're feeling adventurous you can try the Ostrich Burger...I haven't, but one day. Â The double meat green chili cheese burger and buffalo burger are fantastic.
Family owned (there used to be twins that worked the counter who were super friendly and fun to chat with) and operated for as long as I can remember, they are genuinely great people...
Thanks for the great service and consistent food quality!!!
