We wandered in here on the advice of some time-traveling gypsies. To hear them tell it, finding Cafe C'est Si Bon open is pure luck. The decor inside this cozy space is meditative, slightly eccentric, and slightly trippy. David, the proprietor, had randomly decided to open the cafe this morning instead of Pastel's down the road. He had enough batter for two crepes, which were shared among the four people in our party. One fruity, one nutella, both with ricotta, both delicious. His simple bread rolls -- with uncooked quinoa in the dough and a honey glaze -- were complex, comforting, and savored by all. That's all the food he had to offer that morning. (The group of French tourists who came in after us had to leave empty-handed.) But it was enough. A hibiscus and lavender drink of David's own devising sealed the deal.
Review Source:This is a wonderful little restaurant, well worth a detour. Â The chef/owner is very inventive and resourceful, and our family was very glad we stopped there. Delicious lunches all around, and hospitable atmosphere. Â Pay close attention: Â Shoshone is a small village &if you're on highway mode you can easily drive past this great spot.
Review Source:A desert road from Vegas to nowhere...I'm starting to feel like I'm in a surreal movie, and I love it.
Amazingly fresh organic food and a perfect espresso were a surprising  birthday present. David's beautiful spirit flows through the tiny cafe. There is magic in the crepes, the tableware, the garden, and the tiny spring fed stream that trickles around the base of the house.
David's sweet friends made us feel at home and warmed my heart by bringing me birthday flowers out of nowhere.
A perfect time!
Cheers-
FUN! Â Kooky little oasis in the desert serving FANTASTIC food and owned by a super-cool personable man named David. Â Worth going out of your way for! Â One of the best restaurants within 200 miles of Vegas... great ambience, food, location, everything. Â You must check this place out at once!!!
Review Source:I have to agree with the other reviewers, this is a really good little organic cafe in the middle of the desert.
On our way home from an epic death valley trip, we were hungry for some fresh, homemade food. Â So we decided to stop. Â
Its an interesting little place, very hippy-new age. Â But there was a fire going in the stove and delicious lavazza coffee made to order, so we were encouraged to stay. Â We ordered the morning's special, a kind of huevos rancheros. Â The eggs were poached, placed on a crepe, and served with a nice green salsa, goat cheese and pine nuts. Â It was really good, and really light and fresh. Â
This is not fast food, so if you're in a hurry, go elsewhere.
Just ate here for the first time to day with my husband and in-laws. We stayed for about two hours, had a great time speaking with the owner, David. I'm not a fan of crepe's but he made them perfectly. None of this ginormous, fake crap stuffed with spinach, this was a delicate cheese crepe featuring organic veggies. All food is prepared to order, fairly priced and a welcome change from the days of eating bananas and trail mix when hiking through death valley. We will surely visit each time we visit the area. Thanks dude. Oh yeah, cash only!
Review Source:Stopped here after leaving Death Valley and it was the best stop ever! Had a crepe and a latte, and both were perfect. I could have stayed here for hours looking at all the art on the walls and feeling toasty by the woodstove. It's worth going down Badwater road to Shoshone next time you're in Death Valley, or even next time you're in Las Vegas. Excellent food and a wonderful atmosphere.
Review Source:I'll admit I have a slight bias towards this place... but even if I wasn't friends with the owner I'm sure I would love it. Â Lovely, relaxing French-inspired cafe out in the tiny desert village of Shoshone (takes about an hour and 45 minutes to get there from Vegas... great for a Sunday drive). Â Fully owned and operated by David W.- he does everything himself! Â Total hippie atmosphere inside and world music playing. Â The vegetarian menu consists of crepes, salads, quiche, granolas, gourmet cheeses, smoothies, and more, and of course espresso drinks, coffee and tea. Â Best mochas ever! Â Prices totally reasonable. Â I will say the portions are a little on the small side, but it's cheap enough that you can order more than one thing.
The people that come through here are artsy travelers from around the world. Â You're sure to hear people discussing the Mayan calendar, biodiesel, astrology and New Age type stuff! Â Internet access is available. Â Hours 8-4, Wed-Sun.
By next month, David's new restaurant, Pastels, is scheduled to open in nearby Tecopa. Â He's partnering with Italian chef John M. from Las Vegas to feature a more extensive menu and a new atmosphere.
