Quirky little wine bar. Great selections, some fun snacks. Visit every time I come. The locals are fun, smart, and willing to chat. Love it!

I had the pleasure of experiencing Capital Cellars for the first time last weekend, and to say the least, it will not be the last.  The environment is very inviting, with a front dining-type room adjacent to the wine store, and a small bar (seating 6 or so) in the back.  The bartender and cook on staff were both friendly and knowledgeable, helping with wine and cheese selections.  My boyfriend and I each enjoyed 3 hearty glasses of wine and shared a plate PILED with different cheeses and breads/crackers, a far cry from the measly portions (and impersonal service) you receive at Table 310 (touted for their similar offerings) for far more money.  The prices are more than fair for the quantity, and the quality is top-notch.  From my observation, at least 50% of the cheeses on the menu were Kentucky proud, and I noticed a similar trend in the wine offerings; the remaining 50%(+/-) of are diverse and appealing to any palate.  I have already raved about this place on my Facebook, but seeing as the majority of the readership of this website are not my virtual "friends", I wanted to be sure and share a recent review and encourage everyone to visit Capital Cellars!  They also have sandwiches, etc., and I received some feedback that this is a great lunch spot and they host periodical wine/bourbon tastings.

I'm down here at least once a week, if not twice. They have a large  selection of Kentucky bourbons and wine, as well as domestic and imported wines and spirits. If they don't have you wine, Rachael can order it. They've got a small refrigerated case of microbrews if that's your thing too.

They serve both by the glass, or the whole bottle for $2 more than the shelf price. Hungry? They've got a small cafe menu. Try the ham panini, it's my favorite.

They have a free wine tasting on Thursday and Friday nights as well from 5-7. It tends to get crowded later in the evening, so come early if you don't want to stand.

The service can be hit or miss, depending on how many people are scheduled to work that night. Some nights are better than others, but it's really not the fault of the servers/bartenders. i think they just need to schedule more people for Friday and Saturday night. And there's one guy, an older British dude that works some evenings that can ignore you, even if you've stood there for ten minutes. I'm not the only one who's turned around and walked out. He's a nice guy, really, but damn it, I don't have all night.

There's definitely a crowd of "regulars" that come here, some every night. You'll get to know these folks on a first name basis, they're great.

They've really got something good going for themselves here; they've got a great product, and a great selection of wines. if only they could get a couple of kinks in their service worked out, I'd happily give them 5 stars.

P.S. Maggie and Ryan both work on Friday nights, usually. They're a hoot, to quote our favorite hockey mom from Alaska. Seriously, they'll take damn good care of ya!
