This is one of my favorite places for a no frills delicious Italian meal. They are remodeling the inside to make it look more swanky, Â I just hope the food stays the same! Â They have shrunk the menu down to their best dishes but my favorites were still all there. Huge portions and yummy food!!
Review Source:Can only comment on the entertainment, bar side of things. Â It was truly like a night at the Roxy. Â Sausage factory. Â My girlfriends and I could not look anywhere without being eyeballed by senior citizens, we learned to never let our gaze linger which was next to impossible when you were taking in the sights of the hugely diverse crowd. Â The men were relentless even though we were there with other guys (I was asked if I was a Scorpio to give you an idea of the game these guys had) but it was all good fun and everyone there was having a great time dancing to an awesome band. Â We would come back for sure. Â $5 cover charge--well worth it for the sight seeing!!!
Review Source:This place is great! Went with a few friends, had the Al Capone veal. Covered in cheese and proscuitto...excellent! Everyone loved the food and the service was on point. Drinks were well made and potent. After we ate, a fantastic band played and drew quite a large crowd.
I will definitely visit Capones again sometime soon.
This is one of our favorite neighborhood places.
The prices are right.
The wait staff is terrific.
It is a comfortable come the way you are place.
The food is comfort food.
My wife loves their lasagna and the meat loaf. (She makes a great meatloaf and usually regrets getting it at a restaurant, but not here.)
I love the steak tips and the butternut squash ravioli.
It is not a romantic place to dine, but a great place for the family or a couple to get a great meal at a great price.
The band (Evolution) was "on" last Saturday night. Â A friendly local crowd spanning a broad age range filled the dance floor to familiar 70s tunes. Â Good pours from the bar at great prices makes Capone's a terrific value for a night out. Â According to locals, the food's good too. Â For a guy that used to caravan around the North Shore in the 60s, following Teddy & the Pandas and Jack & the Spades (honest!), Capone's brings back great memories of music and dancing. Â Strong weekend choice.
Review Source:As a long time customer of Capone's, I never thought I'd rate it less than a 5 but tonight was amazing. After waiting 20 minutes, which was no big deal, we were sat and ordered drinks and meals after being approached by the waitress the first time. After getting salads we were told that the kitchen was short staffed and they couldn't accept any more dinner orders for a while. For nearly 45 we sat with empty salad plates in front of us and empty drink glasses until getting up to track down our waitress. She apologized for the kitchens delay but said that she did order the food, but would check. Twenty more minutes passed and we finally received our food. The food was very enjoyable as usual...the only reason for any stars at all. Our waitress said she would check back to see how our meals were...never saw her again. We sat once again with empty plates with credit card out until a very helpful busboy said he would find her. She brought the check and apologized once again for the kitchen's delay. The least of my concerns about tonight's experience was the kitchen. I totally understand being under staffed or a really busy dining room but I don't understand forgetting tables and failing to check back. If you do not have the staff to run a restaurant (dining room, bar and take out) don't take any more parties / orders until you are able to do so. You might make short money but I'm afraid you'll damage long term customers.
Review Source:My husband and I ended up here by accident while staying in Peabody for a long weekend. Â Instantly, I could not help but love it here. Â I felt like I was on the set of an 80s movie. Â The ambiance is so tacky that it is endearing. Â Husband & I had a great time & enjoyed the cheap booze. Â We didn't eat here, so I can't speak to the food. Â If I ever found myself wandering the streets of Peabody, MA again I would certainly stop in.
Review Source:This is an interesting place. There's been a restaurant at this location for as long as I can remember. I know before Capone's opened it was at least 3-4 other restaurants that never seemed to last very long. Capone's opened at least 10 years ago. When it first opened it was clean & modern. Little if anything has been done to it since & its needs a good cleaning & make over. The food can be good here, I usually go with the seafood. I will not touch the red sauce, the pizza's are very small. Portions have gotten smaller over the years & the quality of the food is not as good as it was years ago. Still its not bad & the prices are fair. Large dinning room, and its not cramped, decent service, kinda run down restrooms. Parking lot can be tight on weekends & you may have to wait for a table. Large bar, lounge, with decent size dance floor, Â weekends they have live bands (some decent), if your a guy looking to pick up a cougar or a girl looking to pick up an older guy with a toupee, this is the place to go. People watching can be fun later at night.
Review Source:I have gone to Capones a few times. The first time was by total clumsiness actually. My husband (then boyfriend) and I were in Salem for Labor Day Weekend 2004. Long story short is we were staying at a hotel in Peabody and were driving back to Salem to figure out what we wanted to do for dinner before meeting up with some friends for drinks. We got lost and found this place and were like looks Italian we could go for that so we did. The portion sizes were huge -thank god we had a fridge at the hotel. Seated right away every time we have since gone back (we have since moved to Salem so it is close by to go to eat) except once when we had to wait maybe 5 minutes.
Staff is always friendly, food is good and bread is warm. I have heard it is even fun to go to for music/dancing. I havn't tried that yet. It is also good for larger groups. The dining room is large enough that they can put some tables together.
This is not a food review. This is strictly for bar side/music. On a Friday or Saturday night, if you are bored and are looking for some entertainment, go to Capone's. And I am NOT talking about the music, I am talking about the patrons. I have to admit, I am there alot. I know a little group that hangs there so it is kind of like my Cheers, everyone knows my name. However, that doesn't stop me from being amazed at the eclectic group of music goers that bounce through the doors every weekend. Including....but not limited to.....20-70 year olds, trannies, bikers, yuppies, but mostly your average middle classs, middle aged divorced men & women.
The interest level of the crowd, tends to revolve around what band is playing. Some bands are cheesy disco-y type, others rock and roll. One thing that is plentiful, visual entertainment....Over-aged women dirty dancing in halter tops and stillettos in December and the men who love them.....sounds like an idea for a new reality show!! Last night I studied how dancing techniques vary from person to person. Who can boogie all the way down to the floor without falling, and of course, exercising with Jack LaLaine - Dance floor style!
For a $5 cover charge, a cheap night out, drinks are reasonable. I would check the website to see if the band playing that night has a link for you to hear a sample, before you drive over. Some of them really suck. Four stars for people watching.
Alright, let's start off by saying Lynn doesn't have many resturants around it that I would dine at regularly. Â I usually order things I know I will like. Â Chicken Parm, Veal Parm, Lasagna, Steak, Country Fried Chick/Steak etc, etc.
So I branch out, I look around. Â I try new things.....
I first tried Capones back in 2005. Â Food was good, huge servings, friendly staff. Â 8 out of 10 on the point scale. Â Chicken Parm w/Caesar Salad
Same with 2006, 8 out of 10 on the point scale. Â Chicken Parm w/Caesar Salad
2007, I was a little disapointed but it got a 6.5 (rounded to 7) on the point scale. Â Lasagna......
Average it all out and it's 7.6 out of 10. Â (Rounded to 8. Â Bring the 8 down to a 4 out of 5.) Â Capones has a very friendly enviorment. Â I enjoy the food and the atmosphere. Â It's slow-paced eating and not expensive.
The only thing I do not like about Capones is that their website does not display dining hours. Â Sometimes I will forget and stop by with friends on a tuesday night around 8:30 and they are serving their last meals. Â They are a good resturant and have a loyal group of customers on thursdays/fridays/saturdays.
Capone's is a decent place. Â The food is quite good, and the wait staff are friendly. Â I'd hesitate to call some of the dishes they serve Italian, but others definitely fall under the category. Â I've had their hamburgers, ravioli, tortellini, and lasagna. Â The only dish I wouldn't order again is the lasagna, it was very plain. Â All the portions are large, and I usually have enough for a 2nd lunch or at least dinner that night. Â The warm bread is good, but I've had to remind the waitress a few times to bring it, and all the pasta dishes come with a salad, which is quite large.
This is a solid place to eat lunch if you work in the area, and are hungry, but it certainly isn't amazing.
Suburban Italian fare is a great description for Capone's, Kristen W. Â
Basic Italian food in large portions with prices on the low side. Â You get warm bread and butter when you're seated and entrees come with a salad. Â Being a vegetarian, I am partial to the cheese ravioli, which is quite good, and sometimes I go for the broccoli and ziti. Â Yes, they offer just broccoli and ziti (no chicken!) as an entree, which makes me very happy. Â Previous dinner companions have sampled both the eggplant and chicken parm with pleasurable results. Â Just plan on having enough food left over for a lunch or two.
I suggest trying the turtle cheesecake if you have enough room for dessert. Â
Capone's is a casual restaurant, good for groups or families, and there has always been a decent crowd when I've been there, though wait times have ranged from only 5 - 20 minutes.
There is a good size bar and dance floor and they do have live entertainment a few nights per week, but I've never experienced that aspect, so can't really comment. Â But I'm sure it would be quite an interesting experience...
I know Capone's through the foggy rose colored glasses of a few nights out acting the tipsy dancing fool 20-something I can occasionaly be, while visiting a friend who lives nearby. Post-midnight nights on a dance floor teeming with couples working their way towards the (slightly sloppily unfortunate) horozontal rumba, serenaded by grey haired rockers with beards and flowered shirts... it's a hot mess. But it's a blast. Got an evening with a few late night hours that beg a fun time? Commit to a night of revelry with a few friends and a shot of sambuca. Do it.
Review Source:Solid suburban Italian fare - huge portions, reasonable prices. Â Great service for functions. Â
Any menu item that is bathed in the red sauce is a good bet - the sauce is incredibly flavorful and fresh tasting. Â This Italian girl loves it lots.
Specials are also a good bet - especially any fish dish (salmon, scallops, etc.)
Simple but comfy decor, very clean environment, prompt and friendly service, makes Capone's a great bet for a low key evening out. Â Great for families with kids, groups, couples, anyone!
Be advised that weeknights bring out a slightly different crowd of party-goers.
The bar features live music and this seems to be the draw of a generally over 40 crowd on weekends. Â And if the hangovers aren't too bad on Sunday you'll find Keno aficionados swarm 'round the bar for beer, wine, and yummy pizza while cheering on the Patriots.
