I love the "beach bar" feel complete with palapas, fruity beach drinks, and pirates. This place has all those things. We popped in after work one afternoon for some cocktails. With it being spring break we thought for sure we would have to fight for a table. That was not the case at all. We had the place pretty much to ourselves for awhile and chose a nice little table outside since the weather was so perfect. Our bartender was very nice and quick. She made sure to check on us frequently, but not too frequently to the point of annoying. We looked at the menu but did not eat. They had burgers, appetizers, salads, and even some fish tacos that looked pretty good. Maybe we will try the food next time.
I ordered at strawberry daiquiri that was in a pint glass(cup) and I thought that it was the perfect strength. I like to be able to taste a little bit of alcohol or else what's the point? They were $5 during happy hour. Love the view, and love that it was quiet from the spring break mess that is known as the Seawall. We will definitely be back for live music on the stage above the bar!
Can't complain with the view from this bar, sits directly across from the seawall in front of the hotel, Holiday Inn Sunspree, that they are in conjunction with. It connects to the hotels pool, so if you happen to be staying here, or maybe not staying here and enjoying the pool, you can get in-pool service.
We met up with the rest of our party here, that was happening to stay at the hotel. Payden, forgive me if I've misspelled your name, was an excellent bartender, thank you for letting me occupy you with my countless questions regarding your tattoos. My party thoroughly enjoyed the shots of "sharks blood" you concocted for us the first night. Though much of my disappointment was had with the bar running out of Shock Top on tap, Le sigh they didn't have any the next night either.
To my surprise I actually enjoyed the food here, figured it wouldn't be much to brag about for bar food, though I could have just had my fill of drinks and that tends to up the likeness of even the worst food. I do recall though the portions were very generous for the price. Chips & Salsa $6 was a steal!
Overall a good place to stop in for drinks, a quick bite, and a beautiful view.
Spent some time here on the spur of a moment trip to Galveston. It's has a very relaxed chill beach vibe, with a great view of the beach. My wife and I stayed there for hours just just sippin on drinks. We went back that night and they had a DJ playin and a good reggae/ beach groove music. If you are in Galveston go check it out, Cheers!!!!!
Review Source:Location is great with it being across the sea wall; they've got an onsite pool, two bars - and one of them happens to be a breezy cabana/palapa.
I didn't stay at the hotel (Holiday Inn SunSpree), I just swung by the pool bar for post-dinner drinks. I had a yummy pineapple-coconut rum-cranberry-grenadine and other stuff. It was beachtastic. My cab (out of an individual small bottle) sucked, which is to be expected. Doubt they serve much wine here. It's more of a beer or fruity concoction type of hangout.
They've got live music on weekends, kitschy décor and slow service - for some, that's a perk when livin' the Island life.
Judging by the previous reviews, maybe I was just there on an "off" night. I went with my wife on Sunday evening, 04/29/12 at about 7:45pm. The service was terrible. After about ten minutes, I had to motion to the guy to come take our drink & appetizer order.
We had a http://Restaurant.com coupon, so we had to order $35 worth of food. When I told the guy this, he seemed annoyed. We ordered our drinks and two appetizers. Then the guy disappeared and didn't come back for a while. After he came back, he almost never left from behind the bar. There were only about 15 people in the place, and nobody had food... So it wasn't like it was really busy. It was a Sunday evening.
After about 45 minutes with no appetizers, I had to leave the table and go ask the guy where they were. He again gives me an annoyed look and tells us it's not his fault because his "runner" took off for the evening. This is one of my pet-peeves. If you work for the restaurant and I'm the customer, don't "pass the buck" and blame another employee... Especially if you're the one who's been waiting on me. Your job is to apologize and tell me you'll try to get them right out.
After an hour, the appetizers finally came out and our fried pickles and buffalo strips were both ice cold. We didn't end up ordering our $35 and didn't get to use our http://Restaurant.com coupon. We just left.
OK, so since I seem to go here a LOT lately I figured I'd better update my review!
The service can still be hit or miss, but usually it's pretty good. Definitely better than the first time, even on a bad day! Of course when they are busier the service slips a little, but that seems to be because a lot of drunk people want their alcohol/food orders right NOW! But the girls are always hustling so it's not like they are ignoring you on purpose.
And the food.....seriosuly great food! They changed their menu up a little and yeah, it's typical bar food (although they have couple salads but they are $12 a piece! Ouch.) but it's always been hot and fresh and goes great with a few cold beers!
The hamburgers run about $10 and come with fries, but for $2 more you can get onion rings. They also have appetizers like chips and salsa, chiocken strips and quesadillas. I always get the chicken quesadillas that run $9; the plain cheese quesadillas will run you $8 and I think they have shrimp ones for $10.
Fish tacos are also on the menu if you are so inclined; I don;t remember the prices because I'm not a fan... :)
So definitely check them out and grab a bite and a couple cold beers, or try a Tsunami if you're feeling brave...great music, great views and relaxing place to hang out on the beach definitely makes me a fan of Captain Jack's!
Stay at the hotel and take advantage of the swim-up pool bar. Â The atmosphere of this place though is freaking awesome. Â The music selection varies depending on who is working. Â Like one day, there was a lot of reggae (Rebelution, Slightly Stoopid, Sublime, etc...) and the next day, a different chick was playing more mainstream stuff (Nickleback, stuff you'd hear on the Buzz/Edge), and then the next night there was some oldies on. Â I think live bands play above the bar but we went during the week so it's hard to say. Â Go there for sure, it's a great place to sit, have a beer, and relax.
Review Source:Fantastic service, great bartender (esp. since she said she was new), excellent atmosphere, and best of all, great drinks!
The place is right on the beach and makes you feel like you are really on vacation.
The drink specials on are the white board right above the bar, they are pretty potent and not too expensive.
