    They are closed

Miserable bartender, he was so rude and made us feel so unwelcome. We came in later in the evening maybe around 11:30 but there were a few other groups of people in there having a good time.  They did everything they could to get us out from ignoring us to see if we wanted another round of drinks, putting the bar stools up on the bar around us and finally turning off the music.  A simple "Hey guys we close at X time" would have sufficed but we are pretty sure they forced us out earlier than they closed since there was a timer on the wall counting down to closing time we assumed. Would never go back or recommend, these guys were miserable bastards, wish we could take back the tip we left them.

First of all let me start by saying I am not from Vermont & was told by friends that this was a good place. Very very wrong. I urge you not to go here. You can make better food in your kitchen.

Started off with the service. They rush you. Asking if you're ready every 2 minutes. I was asked 4 times if I was ready. When I wasn't. With multiple other things that made the table of 4 unhappy. Being the only table in there besides 1 other table.

After we got the food- I got ham corn and SWEET mash potatoes. I was disappointed. The menu sounded great. But corn came out of a can. No butter. No salt. Nothing. & then mash potatoes were sour.

Not to mention my salad was 3 tomatoes 2 croutons and some slimy lettuce.

We complained about the other dish that extremely salted and over cooked.  & was offered half off by a manager. Well that's not cutting it for me. Consideration I'm a bar manager. I know how a restaurant  work.

The manager came over and got an attitude because I complained. Even though I was very nice. At first. He then over heard I would tell people not to eat there then offered dessert & other items.

But with their attitudes I figured they'd spit in my food. They could've comped some money off the bill because clearly we were dissatisfied. But no. $60 for the worst experience I've had in my life.

Go across the street to the brewery if you want real food & service.

    NO! NO! NOOOO!

Went to Carmody's for lunch with a group of 6, in town for the afternoon. It was the perfect place for us. This is a typical old fashioned casual "American Food" restaurant, so I'm judging it on that basis.

Food was terrific, for what it was. We had various hot sandwiches with sides (fries, veggies, etc). Ingredients were good quality, everything was prepared competently, etc. My french dip (basically a nicer version of a Philly Cheesesteak) was delicious, the vegetable side was basic but fine, and my little sample of gravy fries was tasty.

Value was really good, portions were big, prices were good, in-line with "everyday" restaurants in "everyday" places.

Service was great. Our waitress was great, attentive, efficient, got everything right, took good care of us.

Ambience was fine. Good accomodation for medium-sized groups. Unpretentious, no trace of "hipster", "hippy", or "studenty". Clean and comfortable, the photos here make it look junky for some reason, but it's not. Bathrooms were large, clean, in good condition.

This was a great place for a comfortable family lunch. Everyone enjoyed the meal. I'll definitely eat here again. Up north in places like Woodstock, Norwich, etc, I've come to expect hyperinflated prices, shamelessly bad ingredients, shortcuts, cheapouts, and embarrassingly unsuccessful pretenses of "local" or "artisan" food. Carmody's was a breath of fresh air!

This place was okay, had the stuffed burger special, the bun was not very good, cheesy fries would have been better without the cheesy... My sister had the grouper reuben and said it was great. Atmosphere was pretty lame, service was average. Three stars is being nice. Will look for some other place to eat next time in Bennington~

Try a grouper reuben with sweet potato french fries...  The best...

    Awful, awful, awful!

Carmody's used to be my parent's favorite Sunday dinner. Sadly we all agreed, the owner has really let the place go downhill.

The service was abismal. We asked if we could order some bread with our soups for lunch today and the waitress kept running back and forth between the kitchen in a tizzy. No, we couldn't have the italian, or the french, maybe she could get some wheat? She ended up giving us a plate of day old stale italian bread. Luckily the processed butter seemed to revive it a bit. My french onion soup was luke warm but tolerable.

I had ordered a beer with my meal and she didn't bring it until after she brought our food. When I asked if she forgot it she snipped at me "I KNOW, I'm going to get it now."

Sadly it was quite dirty and the lights were barely on. It was so dark in there I had a hard time seeing my dining companion. There is still time to save Carmody's. I hope they do so sooner rather then later...

I used to come here when I went to school just over the NY border. Really good burgers

I have to comment on how utterly fantastic the burgers are here.  Hands-down, this place beats places like "Five Guys" or any other place you can think of.  We were here last weekend, and each of us got the TJ Special burger cooked medium: sauteed onions, bacon, thousand-island dressing and Vermont Cheddar Cheese.  They cooked them PERFECTLY: nice and juicy on the inside, but with a wonderful char on the outside.  FAN-tastic!  My only complaint is that the thousand island dressing didn't do much for me: it didn't have a strong flavor against those wonderfully sweet onions or beautifully moist burger on a FRESH big roll.  I ignored the fries, and barely finished the burger.  It was awesome!  Reminder to self: Get the TJ Burger, always!!!

Ate dinner here with a large group of friends as we were passing through town.

We were greeted by the owner, our orders were taken and brought at very quickly despite the large size of our party (9 in total).

The place is comfortable-casual, food is very good for what it is.  Want a good pasta dish?  A good soup?  Comfort food?  You're set--the food is tasty and reasonably priced.

I'd go back, were I to swing through Bennington again.

Want grub in pub instead of a sub?  Well that was my only choice after 9pm on a Saturday night because my favorite place in Bennington (Madison Brewing Co.) was closed.  So it was a sandwich at Subway or greasy food at Carmody's.  We took the latter option.  My corned beef sandwich was so-so.  My other friend and his cousin also had similar feelings about their orders.  Inside the pub it is kind of dark with mood-lighting generously provided by the numerous hoisted tvs on the walls tuned to various sports channels.  By the way, Madison Brewing Co. is located directly across the street from this pub.

I've been here a few times, it's certainly a solid, casual place to have a meal in Bennington. The service is friendly and the layout of the restaurant is very appealing (closed off bar with windows - very tasteful). The food is pub grub with some specialities splashed in. My family always orders the Irish Nachos and wings, very tasty. The only downside is that we brought our niece who has a severe peanut allergy a while back but had to leave because they cook all of their food in peanut oil.

I have visited this establishment several times and is my #1 choice for dining out in Bennington.  The Atmosphere is great, beer is kept on ice, tons of variety and the owner TJ always is there to greet you.  My kinda place!  CAB Prime Rib every Saturday!!!

My wife and I stopped here on our way to a snowmobiling trip this past weekend. Downtown Bennington is very nice with a few different spots for dining. We chose Carmodys because it was closest to where we parked and we were starving. This seems like a local favorite as the restaurant was pretty full and the bar area was packed. We found a table in the bar and ordered a couple of beers. We split their Irish nachos. They were not very good at all. Basically all they were was a plate of waffle fries DRENCHED in fake cheese sauce with more (cheddar??) cheese melted on top. We ate a few, but decided against eating more as they were bad. We also ordered a burger which was pretty good. It was pretty tasty. The bartender was also our server. He was extremely nice and prompt.
3 Stars for burger, server and cheap beer prices ($4 a pint).

During our latest visit to Bennington we stopped by Carmody's for lunch before heading home. Being a fan of Sheppard's Pie, I have actually been looking to try theirs. Given the quality of everything else I've had here, I thought I'd be in for a treat. Alas, it was not to be.

The Sheppard's Pie here was EXTREMELY bland. In fact, it tasted as if it had no seasoning at all. I had to dose it with salt and pepper from the table just to make it eatable.

On the other hand each of the 3 other meals ordered were quite good according to the family. My wife ordered the blacken chicken which she thoroughly enjoy ed and is still talking about how good the side of veggies were.

My niece went with a Turkey Chef's Salad and the nephew with a steak sandwich. The salad was tasty but I gather nothing earth shattering (but really, what can you expect when eating rabbit food?)

The Steak Sandwich seemed to go over quite well. Thinly sliced steak served on a round roll with melted cheese and sauteed onions with a side of sweet potato fries.

Also, my wife and niece both ordered soups. One had the Curry Chicken and the other Pablono Pepper based soup. Both thought them excellent.

All and all,  I continue to recommend Carmody's, just avoid the Sheppard's Pie.

While driving through Bennington, we needed some food
and stopped at Carmody's, which has not been reviewed.
It offered a menu of standard pub fare,
but I was so hungry, I didn't much care.
The menu prices did not require major funds,
so I ordered a sandwich of fried fish between buns.
Wifey received a sandwich of club variety
    was excellent in its propriety.
The families were many, and the locals were present
drawn by the atmosphere that was quite pleasant.
So if you need a solid meal, go to Carmody's
and see if you become a regular devotee.
