Road weary and hungry, our family stopped in for a bite to eat and were more than happy with the food!  The comfortable atmosphere was a great break from the road and the burgers and Ploughmans (French) dip were so good that they were halfway gone before we even remembered to post pictures - sorry!  Apple wood smoked bacon and Vermont cheddar topped a perfectly cooked burger on a hearty sourdough roll.
Service was friendly prompt and just attentive enough.
It was exactly the re-charge we needed on a road trip, don't hesitate to stop at Ploughmans!

The Ploughman's Pub & Restaurant (formerly Carmody's West) is a roadside restaurant and bar located on NY 7, just west of the Vermont State Line (VT 9) and east of the Bennington Bypass split. Similar to its predecessor, the atmosphere inside feels like a roadhouse bar (dim lighting and various trinkets on the walls) with a bar counter with seating & 2 flatscreen TVs near the entrance, TouchTunes Digital Jukebox, and the main dining area in the same room and a separate casual dining room in the front of the building.

The food menu offerings here include a variety of hot sandwiches, burgers, pub style appetizers, salads, and wood fired brick oven pizzas (Fri & Sat only after 4PM). Daily specials are offered here. The bar offers a good variety of draft and bottled beers, wine, and mixed drinks. I stopped by here for dinner takeout recently. I ordered The Ploughman's Dip ($9.95 plus tax) served with one side (I chose the Broccoli Salad), which was ready to go in under 15 minutes. The Ploughman's Dip sandwich was a big one, which was served open faced with thinly sliced medium well roast beef (very tender) topped with sauteed onions and a thick layer of melted provolone cheese on a toasted soft Kaiser roll and served witb a cup of onion soup (beef broth & onions) for dipping. The side of broccoli salad was a nice crunch with a creamy and zesty flavor (I could taste some horseradish).

Overall on this recent visit, the dip sandwich and broccoli salad were both excellent tasting and done right to my liking. The service was prompt and friendly.
