Really great fried catfish. Unlimited "fixins" which consist of the best hush puppies in the US, pickles, and sweet tomato relish. Catfish comes with fries (all of which is served "family-style" meaning it is on one plate and you serve yourself).
Prices are reasonable, and portions are 3,5 , or unlimited. They have fillets, steaks(with bones), fried shrimp, and then plenty of grilled seafood items and fried chicken. Excellent and friendly service makes catfish hole excellent overall.
This place "use" to be really good!
It's gone down hill they fry the fish too long and all you get is a bunch of fried cornmeal over a little slab of fish. The service was AWFUL and it wasn't even rush hour! The hush puppy's and coleslaw were great but filling up on that and paying for awful fish and service just isn't worth it to me. It will a Long time before I go back if ever!
Wow! Â Okay, 100 wows!
I was looking to stop in Alma a couple of times, and I've even thought about living here. Â I'm surprised that a town so small can offer so much.
So, I was going to one of the pizza places--there are 4 of those. Â I'm really picky about pizza and I didn't want to be disappointed, plus when I saw catfish, I had to go here. Â I used to go to The Catfish Place in Apopka, Florida and almost always got something amazing.
Being in Arkansas near so many lakes and rivers, I figured it had to be 100 times as good. Â I don't know how fresh everything is--I'm better at knowing ocean fish--but everything was good.
I ordered the 3 piece Catfish filet dinner that comes with fries, cole slaw, and hush puppies. Â The waitress brought the hush puppies even before the drink, along with a dill pickle spear. Â I also ordered a sweet tea--it is the south, after all.
After eating the fish, I was thinking about shrimp/prawns, as in shrimp cocktail. Â Call me a glutton, but I don't have sit-down meals often. Â The breading on the catfish was a bit salty but really good. Â So, the waitress made my order into a combo meal (talk about flexibility!) and that came with another piece of fish and cold, boiled shrimp. Â I think the price changed from $9.99 to $15.99, and then, the iced tea on top of that.
I feel like I over ate, but it was good. Â I even liked the hush puppies and I never like hush puppies because they usually taste like the shoes of the same name.
I had a lot of fun peeling the shrimp and I'm surprised someone across from me didn't have one fall into their food. Â They're lively little devils--the shrimp, not the people.
I remember the motel desk clerk telling me how this restaurant had become less good, as it had changed owners twice. Â I can only imagine how great it was then because it was good for me in 2013.
This might be reason enough to move to Alma.
Once I arrived at this destination's parking lot, I was captivated by the contemporary looking building that is unlike any other building around it. Â As I stepped inside, I instantly noticed the modern and sleek decor. Â This place looks brand new.
I tried the Cajun Catfish that was recommended by one of the nice waitresses and it was really good! Â But before I left I had to try their yummy fried pies! Â
I ordered the fried coconut pie and ice cream and it's one of the best pies I've tasted. Â It was served to me warm, so it went really well with the ice cream.
Since the pie was rather small (according to their standards), they gave me the ice cream to me free of charge! Â
The waitresses are constantly walking around checking on the tables and refilling drinks without asking, which is really great.
This review may be biased but so what?! I do not have the will power to turn down free ice cream!
